WC Qualification, and Asia's Merit. I Disagree

Dont get me wrong, I'm not starting a new thread to critise any one team here but consider this.

My point of thread is that WC qualification format is stupid and too much WC place is given to asia.

ATM Asia has 4.5places to WC,
I'm sorry to say this but, Asia does not deserve 5 places let alone 4.5.

Asia's qualification atm is like this. Top 2 teams advance automatically, while the 3rd team from each group play-off each other for the right to play a 3rd concaf nation. How easy is it to qualify, just by not coming last in the group of 4! gives countries a chance.

WC Qualification should be harder for asia by having top team qualifying automatically and the 2nd team playing off, with winners advancing, and the loser having to go another playoff. Therefore given 3.5places.

AND why the hell does oceania playoff with S. AMerica, and Asia with Concacaf?.

It should be Asia ply Oceania, and Concacaf ply S. America.

I'm sorry to say, but even being an asian, i dont think qualification should be this easy, and Asia dont merit a 4.5 (5) places in the WC.

I agree that even though a lot of the asian countries have improved, 5 teams in the WC for 06 might be too generous, but thats why they would fight it out with Concacaf right? Asia does deserve at least 4 especially coming off a great showing in WC02. The true test will have to come in Germany next year to see how the asian countries fare. Common sense would say, if 2 of the 4 or 5 teams make it to the final 16, asia was deserving.

As far as the qualification process, the process itself is not easy. Don't confuse the process with the quality of teams out there in Asia. You have to remember, the qualification before the final round consisted of 8 groups (i think?) where you had to win that group to get into the final stage. Thats why you see a team like China who was in the WC in 02 not even make the final stage. It may be a different format from other continents, but that doesnt necessarily mean its easier.

well it's only 4 guaranteed first of all. the 0.5 can be given to any of the football confeds that are competing for it.

my point was that:
1) there are just as many teams competing as in europe. Granted europe is of higher calibre, but they have way more spots than anyone else.
2) it's good for the sport if there are more continents actively involved and this was a contributing factor for fifa deciding to add more asian and african spots.
3) asian teams proved their worth in the 2002 wc.
4) sure you can say they had home team advantage but so did everyone else. are you telling me france could have won the 98 fifa world cup without being on home soil? I don't think so.

Have some asian pride. I know it's hard for someone with low self esteem or lower intelligence to do so but hey...

Well just on your point (3), Korea and japan did well in 02, but i think they should prove themselves in Germany to really convince that asia is derserving 4places, Korea's and jap's achievement in 02 for asia is matched by 0-8 Saudi, and goaless chinese.

i'm not worried about whether theres 5, 4, 4.5 or even 3 places for WC and if KOrea qualify or not, because as one of Asia's main powers i know they'll qualify all the time.

i think Asia have too many tiket. Honestly, before Wc2002, Asia performed poorly apar from N.Korea and Saudi that went to 16 once. i think it shows apparently Asian countries don't have enough competitiveness except a few countries.
what i am trying to say is that if many asian countries go to WC like this, We can face some situation that the rest of the world ignore Aisa for Asia's bad performance, so i think some well- proved countries should represent Asia.

In a sentence, Asia deserves the spots it has right now, yes in the past they have not been the best continent and if you have checked always usually had either 1 or 2 participents but things have changed and at the moment they do deserve at least 5, if you had watched Asian cup and compared it to Euro's or Copa America you would have realized that the level of play is not very different, if not better! ;)

I don't care if its over 32... World Cup comes every 4 years and its only there for half a summer. Having a few other teams in there would be nice, especially because the Cup is short.

what do you want it to be a goodwill soccer games??? WC cant be run on Olympics or your goodwill games concepts because its based on countries pride and not good spirit.

Having over 32 team is going to make the world cup drop in standards and have more lopsided scores such as 5, 6 nil games. That why standard has to be maintained and the real challengers play at WC. Get it????
