Manchester United marksman Ruud van Nistelrooy is hitting peak fitness just in time to make AC Milan suffer on one of the most dramatic nights in their illustrious history.

Van Nistelrooy could only make a belated substitute appearance at Old Trafford a fortnight ago as United suffered the 1-0 home defeat that leaves them distinct underdogs to advance into the quarter-finals.

But Premiership starts against Portsmouth and Crystal Palace have got the Dutchman flying again, even if he still awaits the goal that will confirm his complete return from a long-standing Achilles complaint.

With 36 goals in 38 European appearances for the Red Devils, the 27-year-old is the man 9,000 visiting fans hope will turn the tie on its head at the San Siro on Tuesday evening, and even van Nistelrooy accepts a lack of fitness will not be an excuse if he fails to deliver.

"Physically, I am at my best," he said. "I improved a lot by coming on against Milan and I have played two matches and done a lot of training since then.

"Hopefully I can improve on the football side too but I certainly feel in better shape than I did against Lyon earlier this season."

After missing the first month of the campaign following a hernia operation, van Nistelrooy made his comeback against the French champions and promptly scored the two goals that earned United a draw after they had fallen two behind in a dismal first half.

Go Man U! With Ruud's record, hopefully he's at his top form to send AC Milan out of the CL! :D
