View Full Version : Germany's #1 Keeper In 2006

Any opinions on who should be between the sticks for germany in 2006, it's a 3 horse race..kahn,lehmann or hildebrand, i find it tough to choose between kahn and hildebrand. Kahn's my sentimental favourite for what he's achieved with the mannschaft in the past, he's also a very vocal team leader, on the other hand hildebrand has been the better keeper over the past couple of seasons and in future should be germany's #1 for many years. Lehmann is my #3, i think he was at his peak back when he lead schalke to uefa cup glory, he could be #1 for a lot of countries but not germany, besides he's as old as kahn but without kahn's big tornament experience.

Very close in Kahn and Hildbrand. I say , let the isssue rest and decide after dfb season 2005-2006. Lets see who performs better in that season and then decide.

I think Kahn is the best keeper in Germany, if not one of the best in the world...

BTW, Nachi...I posted lol

Hildebrand for sure, but like you said Kahn is still great and has done so much for your NT it would be criminal to leave him out of a worldcup being played on his home soil.

the problem is that, kahn, hasnt shown any symptoms of ageing. so he just cant be left out. Hildebrandt is improving with every game, so this is the toughest call Klinsmann will have to make. Also after removal of Sepp Maier, who 'made' Kahn at Bayern, I see the sclaes tipping in favour of Hildebrandt. Who ever it is, a top class goalkeeper will play sub in a wc.

kahn is good, and no one will ever deny that!
but the thing here is that he is getting old after all, his cat skills are kinda of dying, even tho you dont need to be young to be a great goal keeper, his prime is when they one the champions league and i was running around like a little happy school girl!
regardless, he might not be the man he used to be, that doesnt mean hes not the best german up for the job

first of all welcome to sfn, and to the German forum especially...

I wouldnt say Kahn is getting older, or his skills are noticably declining.... The save that he pulled off gudjohnsson in the CL match is a testimony of that. He hasnt really started to age yet... but things could change by the wc time.

Do you speak German?

I think they're both gonna bite the dust soon. Kahn for now, Lehman isnt better. Whose next in line? Any Kahn potential.

On recent form stuttgarts timo hildebrand could be the best at the moment, though klinsmann should be capping him more, i think he's only played 1 or 2 times for germany, personally i'd have lehmann a clear number 3, kahn or hildebrand should be 1st choice in wc06, but at present i'm still undecided between the 2.

well kahn is getting old, and hildebrand is the future, if it is anything keep hildebrand on the bench during world cup, if kahn is doing shit. sadly Lehmann is out of the picture, lol

well if you said "Double F N" then it wouldn't sound so bad...Americans always try to differ themselves from the rest of the world as if there country is so special. German Rules! i used to know it but forgot most of it since i've been in america for about 4 years and haven't spoken a word since coming to america.

Oliver Kahn is the best man for a job, the guy looks pretty old but his saving skills are still incredible. None of the goals in the Chelsea game were his fault. It was our defense that messed up. :worried:

lol the same kind of thing happened to me. My friend is a Real Madrid fan so when the first leg vs Juve was over and real madrid won 1-0 he called me and started laughing because i said that Juve would win but when the second leg was over and Juve won 2-0 and i called him he started making all types of excuses and i just started laughing.hehe pretty funny.

I think we can get into this, i think were gonna win 3-1 even though some say it's nearly impossible to score 3 goals vs chelsea because of their defense. I think if we can score 2 goals away and without 3 of our main players then i think we can score 3 with our main players and at home with our fans supporting us.

i hate it that we have injured players on the side that we cant rely on!
we need them badly next week!
i hope things turn out to the best!

pizarro is not gonna be near 100% and i'm not sure about makaay's health right now. We do need them because without them this thing would be over!

i'm gonna miss 30 min of the game because i'm gonna be in school till 3:00 PM and the game starts at 2:30 PM by me so during those 30 min of play i hope when i get home we have a 1-0 or 2-0 lead. :D maybe i'll find some way to get out of school because i don't want to miss any of the game. ;)

what???? you must be joking. He played wonderfull, as usual. The first goal against him was a freak goal. Direction of ball took a massive deflection, after it hit lucio. The second goal was due to non ewxisant marking of dogba, and letting Joe cole actually cross to him, without any problems. Kahn pulled off two wonderful saves- of drogba in the 2nd minute and a close range powerful shot from duff.

i know that lucio had a bad game, but you cant drop or sell an individual becuase of one bad game. Lucio was excellent in our win against arsenal and in the bundesliga. Knee jerk reaction to loss is not a German trait. Thats more like serie a/ la liga where people look for scapegoats.. Let us sit calmy and analyse cause of defeat ( not necessarily a player) and try to improve them.

i'm just mad because we could have won if he didn't mess up early. I don't really mean drop him but i am extremely mad that it happened twice vs chelsea.

hi @ all!

i think kahn time is over.too many mistakes since 2002. ok, in japan/korea he was the best goalie , but 2006 the best opinion for germany is hildebrand.

1. timo hildebrand
2. oli kahn
3. robert enke

Ok, now, I must say I am impressed by Schalke 04 goalkeeper Frank Rost, who was absolutely fantastic. The penalty saves he pulled off reminf me of Kahn in the CL finals against valencia. He even did a good save from Litzses in regular time. If rost continues playing like this, then Klinsmann will have a very difficult choice between Kahn, Hildebrandt and Rost.

Nebeltier
04-21-2005, 07:27 PM
Is Rost that good?...to enter the frame for selection. (he's 30 or so and has won just 2-3 caps by now)
what do you think about Tim Wiese?...tall, good reflexes (I know he's injured this time but he can be an option for 2006)...also he's young (23-24)
By the way where will he play next year? (has he signed with Bremen?)
my top3 would be:
1-2. Kahn-Hildebrand (either way)
3. Wiese (if playing)

Nebeltier
04-21-2005, 07:32 PM
Kahn still has it! (the reflexes are as sharp as ever...I liked those saves from Drogba and Duff - world class!)...also the desire and will to go all the way this time.
Lehmann, no way! Klinsie must stop picking him...he's no good!

Rost is too old, we need young players for building the new team.
