My highschool coach has me starting as fullback on varsity. I was thrilled to start, and I am happy to play anywhere on the pitch(not the best idea to stick me in net) .Any ways I did alright last season there, wasnt the best ,but wasnt that bad either.Well we lost 6 seniors this yr 3 played defensive, and I can see play self having a larger role in the back four maybe moving from the left back spot to stopper. But I dont know what my coach is going to do with me,so my question is does any one have any tips, drills, marking excercises, etc ?

Play with me every day I play, and I'll tell the coach to put you where ever you want to go :ronaldo:
But in reality, just use your hands more kev, wait for the player to make a move, as opposed to you always lunging in. try to force the player to go one way, if you can force him away from the net, then you're doing your job. In most teams, the main objective of a defender isn't to steal the ball, it's to make sure the player dosen't have an easy shot on goal. If the player is forced to shoot from 20 yards out every time, then your goalie shouldn't have a problem handling the shots. After this spring Kev, you will be able to play any defence spot you want.

I hardly ever lunge i just contain, i allow the enemy to dance as much as he wants i just try and keep him infront of me, i was mostly looking for some type of marking skills , that is my weak point, i can tackle ,watch me in the indoor chamionship friday specialy if we play tiverton.

Try keeping your hands behind your back when training, relax and make sure you move from your center, work on your footwork everyday.

always keep a forearm on your man, watch the ball not the man, DONT LUNG (very important), as the man is advancing shuffle back with him and slowly close the gap with each step. last of all if he wants to play with the ball, let him. he is bound to make a mistake and thats when you take advantage. what part of defence do you play?

To counter this try to hold the ball out a little farther than you normally would, the defender will eventually bite for it, once he does, pull it back, and speed away. If he's too patient, than you need to work with the defender a bit, and move the way he's containing you, once you feel liek the time is right, bring to ball to the side of the defenders supporting foot, he will shift his weight to that side, then cut the ball back, you will guy by them every time.

I'll try to explain what he said...
Hold the ball with away from the defender (ie: if defender is on your right, make sure you're dribbling with your left). If the defender dives in/tries to tackle, make your move. Pull it back away from him and make sure you have a change of pace and dribble away. I'm not too sure what he means about the supporting foot, i'd consider that the back one? So he means make a feint like your going to run by him by his back foot, and then cut back.... again, use a change of pace and you should get by him. I've been tought to always attack the defenders front foot so, if that's what link meant then ignore what I just said above :p.

Yeah, that is basicly what I ment, I know, I was in a rush when I was trying to explain.
Umm, when you approach a defender, you want to try to have him make the first move, if possible. By holding the ball out a little further than you normally do, it will lead the defender to lunge for it, but since you're expecting this, you just cut the ball away from him, and take off, that's the easiest way.
If the defender is containing you too patiently, and wont bite, then you're going to need to get a little technical. If he has his forearm on you, and he's moving along with you, keep the ball on the opposit side of the defender (I.E. If the defender is on the left side, have the ball on your right.) When you're moving with a defender, he waill have to accomidate to how you move, so if you make a move like you're going to cut the to your right, he will make a move to your right to stop you, once he does this, cut it back to your left, and use your body to leave him boxed out on your right, this works about every time I do it.
