I think that this would be the best lineup against Iran, but since it is Zico, i doubt that he will use more than 2 European players
as long as zico bases plays around the European players, the game should be fine.
Here is the line up that would be best
---Kawaguchi---
---Santos - Miyamto - Nakazawa - Nakata K---
---Ono - Nakata H - Nakamura - Ogasawara---
---Takahara - Tamada*---
*It could also be Okubo, Suzuki, or Yanagisawa.
Japan also has a very strong bench, with ppl like Matsuda, Kaji, Endo, Fukunishi, Inamoto and other great players. If Zico uses this team, it will be very effective, but since it is Zico, he will not bring in Nakata Hide, Okubo, Yanagisawa, and probably Nakata Koji. ZIco seems to stick to domestic players only

Santos is in defence!!!! I think you could find someone better... replace one of the forwards with inamoto.

Alex and Tanaka are suspended due to two yellow cards. They can't play against Iran!

I think Iran lose.
Iranian players fight each other on the field when I saw Asian cup.
Also Iran has dirty fan like Astonvillafan2.
I'm sure Japan win, Iran lose.

man,,,, you don't quit, do you? what do you have against Iran? You're going to be against them only because of one person?
I think you disliked Iran and Iranian before you registered here, I think you're intimidated by Iran and the fact that they are #2 in Asia after Japan and Korea is #3...
Come on man be honest you Hate them and it's not because of Astonvilla fan either,, you hate them and have always heated them for other personal reasons.
face it brother, some times you just have to be a man and accept the fact and stop being baised and create hate in your heart. it's only a sport.
You're starting to offend other "Non-Iranian" people here with your constant negative posts and remarks about Iran and Iranian.
you can send me a private message if you don't want people to know why youi really hate them.

What are you talking about? Syrian refs have screwed Iran times after times. The head of AFC ref commite is a Syrian named Farough Bozo who back in his ref days was the cause of Iran's loss to Japan in the 1992 Asian Cup when he allowed an off-side Japanese goal and red-carded 4 Iranian players in one match....

Japan to train in Germany
AFC - TOKYO, The Japan national team will have a training camp in Germany from March 17 to prepare for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier against Iran on March 25.
They will miss both Alex and Makoto Tanaka who are suspended after picking up their second yellow cards in the last match against DPR Korea. Both players will only join the team after they return from Tehran for the next match against Bahrain on March 30.
The selection list to be drawn up by coach Zico, will be named on March 14 before they leave for Germany and after the training camp in Germany, they will head to Tehran on March 22.
European based players such as Reggina’s Shunsuke Nakamura and Naohiro Takahara of HSV Hamburg will miss the first day of the training camp after their clubs refuse to release them.

We get the point. The Chinese get the point. Koreans get the Point. Cameroonians get the point. Iran has home field advantage. That only affects the spirit of the players, not the talent. So your saying if Brazil played Iran at Iran, then Iran would easily win? Just because they have home field advantage. It doesnt matter if they play in Antartica, Hawaii, or on the moon. a game is a game. talent is talent. luck is luck. soccer is soccer. they'll just have people cheering for them. and in that case, then Iran will lose in Japan right? because your making it sound like that home field always win. Not true, only the S. Koreans are lucky in this way

Iran wins in talent and ability and they are playing at home on the 2nd biggest stadium in the world. Japan has better teamwork. Thats about it. Let the game be played and then lets talk about it till then just don't bother because no-one can be certain. Oh ya Japan has a better coach.

What use is a second biggest stadium in the world when its old and run down and look like in need of serious repair?
its not a stadium that i'd be braggin about too much. At least Saudis got a some brilliant stadiums to show off.
and talking about football. Most iranis in here seems to bragg on when iran defeat korea...well I say they wont be too much too bragg about soon.

Mahdavkia voted best player germany he is prolly the best player at Hamburg
Hashmenian moving to Manchester City where he will play along side fowler an importnat player
Karimi the Maradona of Asia possibly the most talented asian player ever.
Rezaei Top Defender at his team vital in games
Kabei: becoming quickly known as the next R. Carlos he is only 18 and speedy beyone belief
Mobali: Another star who hopes to go to europe
Pashvasah: Was on the WORLD TEAM still quite taleneted i think
Zandi: needs playing time
medjdiL needs playing time
Trust me our Iran wins on talent against any asian team. Sry i didn't mean to sound racist i meant Auk-Wung im not sure how u spell his name but when they pronounce it thats how it sounds or Ahn-Wung.

Still doesnt convince me, theres two whos playing in europe in your list, and only one player is due any kind of respect.
Fact is Fact, this year we have two players still in the latter part of CL, and two other player earning good reviews at their clubs, I dont care what your players need playing time, or need self belief, the fact is that they are unproven in international football, ok? apart from Mahdivikia and karimi whatever non of them are proven anything in europe, no ones heard of them outside iran so that is that, what u going to tell me next? no point in arguing, atm korea has players who got their position set in their clubs, playing reguarly winning titles, and still involved in the biggest competition.
As if I couldnt write a whole list saying
CS LEE - need time in Sociedad
JK Song - injury but needs time
etc etc
Rezaei Kabei Mobali Pashvasah Zandi medjdiL, these are unproven players, it doesnt concern me how talent you might say they are, they haven acheived nothing,
And trust me more, in talent alone, Korea beat iran, they have a system where youth continually spring up to replace year after year, thats why, youth and olympic tournaments are always participated.
To Mani, come up with a legitimate argument like aston is tryin here otherwise you keep ur mouth shut, you only look like a little kid having a cry.

well, these players must only be known as that in Iran (besides Karimi) becuase i have never heard of them, but I dont follow Iranian futbol. I have heard of Mahdavikia, but everytime i watch a hambuyrg game, he always comes on as a sub, while Japanese Takahara starts! I can make the same argument with Japanese payers, which would be a longer list, but I give up with arguin with all you. Y'all (not really aton Villa ***MANI***cough cough) are really, really stubborn. Iran has better players, but Japan plays alot better as a team. Teamwork is everythin in futbol. By the way Takyama is horrible player... All the hamburg games i have seen he is only in cuz the other forwards are injured. He is also very bad striker. By the way I can only name one japanese player who is right now not a sub but a current starter and thast Ono...I can't think of anybody else but i don't know japanese defenders that well.

meh.. i was more scared of iran because of the following:
1) Koreans dislike japanese, and losing to japanese they will lose face so the players would have tried really hard and we probably wouldn't lose.
2) korea lost to iran in asian games in penalty shoot out last time in 2004.
3) koreans underestimate iran sometimes.
4) iran is developing into a good team.
but i don't think they are the best. they have yet to prove themselves at the world stage.

why do u ppl just asume Iran is the best? If Iran is so good, why are they still in 20th? Why did u tie Bahrain earlier in the year? WHy did you lose to China in the AFC Asian Cup semis? And don't say that "CHina payed the refs off" becuase if Iran really is a better team than china, it wouldnt matter. I think you say that only because Iran lost. Take the loss like a man. well u see, it really doesnt matter who wins on the 25th. Japan have the most points in Asia, won the Asian Cup, and even if Iran does win, they will still only have 698 points, Japan will still have 705. You base your moral of Iran bieng the best team on heart, not facts. because i have all the facts to bak up Japan being numebr on in Asia rite now. If Iran could only TIE bahrain, why are you so sure that you will win on the 25th? Japan beat Bahrain with 10 ppl, and that was with pretty much AALLLLLLLLLL the european based players out of action, except Nakamura Shunske. Japan now have a european based midfield, whom are most on form. Nakata Koji has been doing really good with Marseille (managed by former japan coach Phillipe trousiier[who i like better with Zico]) As much as I hate Zico, he gets results. And as longas he gets results on the 25th, I will be happy
I'd liek to see the Koreans point of view.
PS If there were more Japanese in this forum, then it would be a better argument, but as of rite now, I am fending off about 6 Iranians.

Just puttin in my 2 cents :ronaldo:
PS Nakata will return as captain above Miyamoto
It wasn't a surprise to see Hidetoshi Nakata back in the national squad for Japan's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Iran and Bahrain.
After all, Japan's J. League midfield quickly fell to pieces against North Korea last month, and Zico will need all of Nakata's experience in the white-hot atmosphere of the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
But it was something of a surprise when Zico announced this week that Nakata would return as captain, above his successful stand-in, Tsuneyasu Miyamoto.
In Nakata's yearlong absence, resulting from groin and back injuries, Miyamoto has done an excellent job.
From his position as libero, the Gamba Osaka defender is in the perfect place to see what's going on in front of him in all areas of the field.
He is a calm and reassuring presence at the back, and this style of firm but unruffled leadership has worked well, especially away from home in a hostile environment such as China.
But Zico will look to Nakata again to lead the team, provided the Fiorentina midfielder comes through the four-day training camp in Frankfurt unscathed ahead of the March 25 date with Iran.
Is Zico making a mistake by placing too much responsibility on the shoulders of one player, albeit his best?

korea and jap has by far more player making impact in europe where it matters ideally CL, and look record it will always indicate
korea - semi jap-second round in wc while iran has one win 1998. is iran the first asian country to win WC games outside 2002?
i dont think so, north Korea beat Italy 1966, Saudi Arabia made the 2nd round WC. what did iran achieve? a win against USA.. oooo wow.
aston, bundesliga was once the world best league back 30yrs ago, but it is no longer. WHY?
alot of german clubs are under financial strain and apart from bayern they dont have any impact in CL or other europena comp, i'd say dutch league stronger anyways.

1. Japan
2. Iran
3. South Korea
Also, you might want to take a look at Iran's profile (http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/team/profile.html?team=irn) on FIFA website. Iran, with 7 titles, has the most continental titles in Asia:
Asian Championships 3 times (1968, 1972, 1976), Asian Games 4 times (1974, 1990, 1998, 2002)

5 Japan
4 Iran
3 South Korea
2 Saudi Arabia
1 China, Iraq
Japan has won 5, Iran 4?
well the way you were saying it, I thought Iran had won the most awards!
:D :D :D :D
 but this doesnt mean that they played for the NT well, just that the individual played well
and whats this? more facts? Mani, buddy, you didnt read the whole thing through :ronaldo:
facts from 2004, from your source!
2004

Ali KARIMI [Iran]
The other players in the race for the award were :

Homare Sawa [Japan]
AFC Coach of the Year Award :
Adnan Hamd [Iraq]
Club Team of the Year:
Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia)
National Team of the Year:
Japan
everything here is in the past! OK, Iran WAS the better team, but why are we counting Asian Cups from 30 yrs back? i mean half of the people on that winning Asian Cup team are probably in their late 50's
Oh so Iran's 7 Asian titles, the last of which was in 2002, don't matter because they were in the past but North Korea's 1966 world cup run matters! Hahahaha! You East Asians are good comedians!
well you see, Iran happnes to be quite a big nation, with quite a big population.
Is that so? Iran has many stars because it is a big nation? So then India and China should have more stars than Iran! Heck even Japan is a bigger nation than Iran!
and that doesnt say anythign about the Iran NT. All these players made impacts with their clubs as well!
Your Korean buddy said that Iranian players have not made any impacts with their clubs now you are saying they have! You people should stop jumping all over the place with your non-factual arguments!

for some reason, that picture looks extremely awkward...
A soccer player with the nickname "helicopter" that poses for a picture with an actual helicopter in his hands. That just seems funny to me
then why hasnt he been won for Asian Player of the Year?
He will! Next year! Two Iranians have already won it in the last two years! There is only one Asian award and so many Iranian stars!

The 27-year-old, who is nicknamed “the helicopter due to his impressive aerial strength, was originally bound to Bochum until 2005, but the German giants made use of a clause in Hashemian's contract which allowed the striker to leave if any team would pay the required compensation to Bochum. He will join the Bayern in the summer.
Hashemian, who has scored six out his 14 goals this season with his head – more than any other Bundesliga player – is thrilled at getting the chance to step in the footprints of his famous compatriot Ali Daei, who won the German Championship while representing Bayern in 1998-99.

IF u want 2 argue that then ur stupid im not gonna bother arguin with you. Since we have done this on a number of threads and the Iranians have proven to have had the best record in Asia...Outside of of 02 has japan or korea done anything good besides reach the world cup ummm no... North Koreans i don't care about 1 good tournament prolly on steriods or maybe just trained their balls off. Anyway I have applied to be a mod and I plan to clean up these forums if Val writes back.

aston has a point, but still! THis is goin to be a grewat game, but Im worried, because Japan has switched form a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2, and Japan has played really well with 3-5-2
and there has also been some problems at the training camps, listen to this
Japan's players closed ranks on Thursday after captain Hidetoshi Nakata was involved in a heated row in training ahead of Friday's FIFA World Cup qualifier in Iran.
Nakata and fellow midfielder Takashi Fukunishi were embroiled in a bust-up over tactics in Tehran on Wednesday. "It was just an exchange of opinions between the holding midfielders, 'Hide' and the defenders," Fukunishi was quoted as saying in the Sports Nippon daily.
Japan coach Zico and midfielder Shinji Ono had to restrain Nakata and Fukunishi. A few of the players are uncomfortable that Zico has opted to switch from a 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2 system to accommodate Nakata, who will be playing his first international for a year in Friday's Group B game.
Japan beat North Korea 2-1 at home last month in their opening match in the final round of Asian 2006 World Cup qualifiers while Iran were held 0-0 in Bahrain.
"We're used to playing 3-5-2 and feel comfortable with it," said defender Tsuneyasu Miyamoto. "I don't think we have enough time to make a new system work."
German-based striker Naohiro Takahara also voiced concern about Zico's tactical switch. "We've changed the formation with Nakata coming back," he said. "But I'm not convinced it's the best system for the team."
AND!
Japan's Hidetoshi Nakata will mark his international return by leading out the side in Friday's FIFA World Cup qualifier in Iran, Japan coach Zico said on Wednesday.
The Italian-based playmaker has not played for Japan since a 2-1 victory over Singapore in the first round of Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers a year ago due to groin and back injuries.
"He doesn't have to be Japan's saviour," said Zico, under pressure after Japan's lucky 2-1 win over Korea DPR in their opening game in the final round of Asian qualifiers.
"The captain will be Hide Nakata. He was at a low point but he is back now and he has an important job to do. He can give us a big lift."
Japan won the Asian Cup without Nakata and fellow European-based midfielders Shinji Ono and Junichi Inamoto last year. Feyenoord's Ono and Cardiff City's Inamoto are also back in the squad for the visit to Tehran following lengthy injury lay-offs.
Iran were held to a goalless draw in Bahrain in their opening Group B game last month. The top two teams from each of the two four-team groups qualify automatically for next year's World Cup in Germany.

Overall Iran played better and deserved to win. Its a shame Japan only took one of the few chances they had. Perhaps Yanagisawa should start next time, he seemed better at holding the ball up than Tamada or Takahara (in that game anyway).

The Man himself..... ;) there was a reason I posted that pic last week...
He almost scored a third goal but he didn't get a good swing at the ball.
Great game, pretty exciting, Iran controlled 80% of the game and had more scoring chances, the Japanese goal was pure,,, well the guy was in the right place at the right time.
The score should have been 6-2 for Iran
I'm sure it will be tougher for Iran in Japan but they have to go through N.Korea first... right now N.Korea is very dangerous since they've lost two games and need a win or else they're out.... also I'm very disappointed at N.Korea for losing to Bahrain, I'm not a big fan of Bahrain... good start for their new coach though...

I just saw 3 videos (each 20 minutes long) of the interviews of Iranian players after the Japan vs Iran match and they seemed very calm about how far they would reach in the world cup.
But I think this is thier exact problem, Iran has the talent, skills, etc... to go very far in the world cup, but what they really need is lots of enthusiasm because I don't know if they acted like they did because they were tired after the match but I was seriously expecting alot more excitement.
Anyways, we will do good in the WC 2006 (hopefull), lol, and I hope Japan and South Korea can follow so that there will be great hope for all of us in thw world cup 2006.
Good luck to all.

Iran needs teamwork. If they have that they can match top teams in the world.

I was really surpirsed that Nakazawa wasnt nominated for the AFC ASian player of the year, and that he wasnt voted MVP of the asian cup. I was actually pissed off that Nakamura won it, all he did was make some nice kciks. Nakazawa saved Japans ass more than any other defender. I hope he at least gets nominated for Asian Player of the year, because he is a very talented defender, and once his name gets out, he will be huge.
PS Nakazawa was named top Japanese player of the year Asian Times, and all the Japanese newspapers

Karimi dominated the Asian Cup... He will be great in Europe. Quite possibly in La Liga or Seria A

Nakata says he will step aside if it gives Japan a World Cup spot
8 April 2005
by AFP
Fiorentina midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata, out of top form due to injury, says he will quit Japan's struggling national team if it will ensure them a place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germanyâ„¢.
But the 28-year-old, who has returned to the World Cup battle for the last two qualifiers after a 11-month absence, vowed to give all he has for what would be his "last chance" on the premier stage of world football.
"I simply wish to have Japan's national team win through the final qualifying round and earn a berth in the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany," the former Asian footballer of the year said in his latest message on his website.
"It will probably be the last chance for me. I want to make up for the 2002 finals in which I failed to deliver," he added.
"But at the same time, I will gladly withdraw if I really obstruct Japan's national team ... and if it certainly opens the road to Germany for us," Nakata said.
Japan coach Zico was much criticised after a 2-1 away loss to Iran last month, when he changed his formation from the usual 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 to accommodate Nakata.
Japan usually play with three midfielders plus two wing-backs. But Nakata, who has often sat on the bench in Serie A this term, joined three regulars in the midfield.
The shift from the formation which helped Japan retain the Asian Cup last August cost them dearly, although Nakata dazzled with a few brilliant passes.
A 1-0 home win over Bahrain last week, courtesy of an own goal, helped quieten some of the criticism and put Japan second behind Iran in Asia's Group B.
Nakata said Japan lost to Iran because they were inferior in one-on-one battles - not because of the formation. Conversely, Japan excelled against Bahrain in such a situation. "It is the most basic of all basics in soccer," he said.
I think Nakata is doing a brave thing, offering to step down...but then again, I hate Zico and i can also admit Nakata shouldnt have been on the NT after the Iran Game

this post is not really related to nakata or....it's just about the victims in Azadi accident...I'm really sorry for interrupting you... :dontcare:
I have translated this text from Persian to English, so maybe I have made some mistakes. So please accept my apology.
Mohammad Jaffari a 12 years old boy .the 7th and the youngest victim, of the Azadi accident. He passed away on 2nd of April. His father explains the story.
"At 10 pm they called me from hospital that our son-in-law (Mehdi) has injured. When I saw my son's name in the list of injuries, I became feeble. I went to the room that Mohammad was there. At first I didn't know him, because his face was covered in blood. In that hospital there was nothing. Even a doctor!! Anyway Mohammad was in coma 9 days and then he left us. I have told ma family I'll fire myself in Azadi if they don't investigate the reason of the death."
"In the last minutes we went towards the maid door, but we saw that all of the doors are close and we weren't permitted to leave. Even in front of the main door was put a helicopter. It was very dark. For a moment I didn't understand what happened. I fell down and when I opened my eyes I couldn't find Hamed and Mohammad." Mehdi explains.
"In that darkness when I was going towards the doors I slid and fell down .I tried hard to stand up but I couldn't. I can just remember that people trampled me and after that I can't remember anything."Hamed explains.
This accident happened in Nowrooz holiday, when a lot of Iranians were celebrating the New Year and the victory of Iran …

Yes Yes Y`all, from West West Y`all,
It`s that time again to bring this subjeoct up! What do u think? Aug 17th, Japan V Iran in Japan (Saitama? Nat`l stadium?)
If ZIco calls ses the lineup he is using against the UAE and Peru, and the confederatiosn Cup, Iran is guaranteed the 3 points. But hopefully, Japan would have fired Zico, and hired Troussier or Rui Ramos

I dunno I think its gonna be a draw... I think Zico will use some of his Japanese Euro stars like Ono, Inamoto, Hattori, im guessing Nakakata, and Takahara.
Personally though Iran looks strong right now...I doubt we will lose a single match...
I want to say one thing to the people at this Asian forum you all piss me off I have been looking at some past threads...
Tok-yo the minute some one says racist things about Iran you say no don't ban them... The minute its about Japan you have zero tolerance policy now thats not biased at all.....
I cannot wait when Iran goes undefeated.
I am gonna laugh so incredibly hard... We got good youth and fossils from the 90 can still get contracts in Europe!!! I love the inferioty complex of you guys its awesome... Personally though formation of choice right now for Iran is this
Hashmian Azizi, Mobali, Daei... Who do you want in there
Karimi
Navidkia Zandi Kazemian Mahdavkia
Medgdi Neukonam Bagheri....Put one of those guys in there in the mid
Kabeii Rezaei Tagizpour
Mizapour
Personally I don't see how Japan can even win right now... Especially with Zico using his nice J league players... My guess is a draw.

by the way the awnser to yur question is beacuse
1. I am the only Japanese in here, so I have to be on the offensive, or else people would walk all over me
2. You are not the only Iranian in here, so you have a defence, as do the Koreans
3. I do not know what you consider racist, but I will look back on my posts and see if it is true to what you say.

I dunno but these Koreans piss me off they always claim they are the bst... All they have is the World Cups and Iran is everyway superior... and They didn't even win a single match in the World Cup till 02 where they hosted! So many Spanish and Italian fans have made huge threads about the cheating with almost perfect proof...
It just pisses me off I want everyone to stop bitching about superiorty and just talk soccer.
