Parma were originally founded as Verdi Football Club in 1913 as part of the celebrations for composer Giuseppe Verdi’s centenary in this opera-loving town. The club changed its name to Parma Football Club in December of the same year and wore a white shirt with a black cross.
Becoming AS Parma in 1931, the small club spent several decades between Serie B and C before slipping into the amateur Leagues in 1967. More changes of ownership and name followed until AC Parmense merged with Parma AC in 1970 to become the club we know today.
The blue and yellow colours were adopted and the Gialloblu made their Serie A debut in 1990. The club, with the aid of sponsors Parmalat, haven’t looked back. Qualifying for a UEFA Cup spot in their first season, Parma have since won two UEFA Cups, three Italian Cups, a Cup-Winners’ Cup, European and Italian Super Cup.
However, the financial collapse of major backers Parmalat will see them struggle for major honours again - unless new owner Lorenzo Sanz, formerly of Real Madrid, can inject fresh funds.
European Honors-
1 Cup-Winners’ Cup (92-93)
2 UEFA Cups (94-95, 98-99)
1 Euorpean Super Cup (93-94)
Serie A Honors-
Italian Cup 3 (92/99/02)
Italian Super Cup 1 (99)

Sh, don't say that.
They need him, as he seems to be their only good player, besides a Mid, can't recall his name.

Ya, I've also heard Parma fans don't want him to be picked for NT play as he would attract big name clubs.

True.
Maybe Parma will keep him.
If he has a heart for the team, then he'll stay.

They must win tomorrow.
If they loose tomorrow, I think they will be relegated.

Parma is a club that builds up youth players. they r like Ajax and that is why they sell all their good players. they have never been a club that stick with their players. and AstonVillaFan morfeo is not underrated hes just bad

yeh, I like Parma cuz they got two aussies in their at the moment and Im supporting them for the Serie A and hope they really do stay up. I think there about 16th atm.
But yeh Brecsiano has got some real skill with him and a good shot, Grella not as good but still capable in a defensive midfield role
I hope Gilardinho stays, he would get more first team opps if he stays with Parma I think, thats if they stay in the Serie A which they should do.
But yeh, when u think of the players they had, they couldve built up a very good football team which is pretty frustrating if ur a fan of theirs... o'well thats football i guess

Well Morfeo has been injured a lot the past years. He has when been, when he is availble, one of our best players. It's a shame that he can't be on the pitch more often because with him we do get a whole new dimension in our attack. ;)

Parma played 3-3 against Palermo at Tardini today. We got two red cards on Contini and Paolo Cannavaro and they will miss the coming game. i don't mind Paolo missing the game but Contini has shown some great potential this season, and once again Sacchi has shown what a great coach he is. Sacchis bought Simplcio and Contini this season, and once again he has been succesful.
By the way. He was 3-1 down but did get a equalizer with only 9 man! :smoking: Awesome!

i think there in a bit of trouble, but then again, arn't most Italian clubs???
neways, its clear that Alberto Gilardino will move in the off season most likely to AC Milan or maybe even Real Madrid.
What is interesting is Mark Bresciano and the massive rumours he will move to Inter in the off season. My paper even said "mark my words, Bresciano will move to Inter...When have we been wrong etc"... Does this look like a big possibility... what does everyone think??? :rolling:

Parma value Gilardino at 50m Euro
Parma have warned off Chelsea and other potential suitors for Alberto Gilardino by estimating their star striker's value at more than £34million.
Chelsea, AC Milan and Real Madrid have been linked with the 22-year-old, whose 22 goals this season make him joint top scorer in Serie A alongside Livorno's Cristiano Lucarelli.
'No player has scored as many goals as Gilardino and with such continuity,' said Parma administrator Luca Baraldi.
'We have sold (Internazionale striker) Adriano for €50million and Alberto, who has done more in terms of numbers, cannot be worth less.'
Parma are looking to sell their top players to ease their financial problems but not at any price.
Gilardino was the most prolific Italian scorer last season in Italy's top flight with 23 goals but was not included in Giovanni Trapattoni's Euro 2004 squad.
He has since become a regular in Marcello Lippi's national team, however.

Psh, hopefully that will just keep the serious buyers. Chelsea will stay most likely and that means we could get more out of them. :)
I think htat the most important thing we do is buy a few players to make our squad deeper. If that makes sense.
We've got to get players who are experienced as we've got a young team, which isn't bad.
Thoughts on new players?
I'd like to see us bring in Bojinov, though he'd be very expensive I think. Maybe a defender and a striker would be most important. :)

Parma is for sale right now so they can't discuss any transfers.
After Parmalat's world crack they sold Mutu, Adriano, Ferrari, Barone, Junior, Diana, Bonazzoli, Castellini, Seric, Potenza, ect.
Baraldi is trying to save the company and so Gilardino, Frey and others will move this summer from Parma.
Anyway they have a great youth programs and players like Savi, Dessena will be the next future.

Parma is a future team. They've got so many great young players in a lot of nts. It's just a shame that they can't win more games. Parma sell sell sell, but they can't bring in any players, so I consider their youth team to be one of the greatest. Just look at what they've produced.
Frey and Gila will be sold.. Hopefully we can bring in a few good replacements.

thats the problem with most Italian sides, they sell off all their players, and usually teams like AC Milan buy them, no wonder they always win the Siere A

Well, when your president is Berlusconi (AC Milan) or Moratti (Inter) or Agnelli (Juventus) isn't difficult to win.
Who doesn't want a president like them or Roman Abramovic????
In last few years teams like Lazio, Roma, Parma and Fiorentina tried to buy wonderful players (Vieri, Veron, Stankovic, Samuel, Batistuta, Crespo, Rui Costa, Stam, Thuram, ect.) in order to compete, so they were called "the 7 sisters".
Lazio: Scudetto 1999/2000, Italian Cup 1999/2000, Italian Supercup 1999/2000
Roma: Scudetto 2000/2001, Italian Supercup 2000/2001
Parma: Italian Cup 1998/1999 and 2001/2002, Italian SuperCup 1998/1999
Fiorentina: Italian Cup 2000/2001
They won but they spent a lot of money, now they have only debts.
No way, they have to sell their best players or they will be out of business.

Parma vs Lazio
Lazio will travel to Parma confident of securing a result in this battle of Serie A’s fallen giants. Not so long ago both of these sides would have been competing for the Scudetto, but financial problems have put an end to such optimistic ambitions. While Lazio are still outside contenders for a UEFA Cup place, their opponents find themselves deep within the unfolding relegation battle.
The Gialloblu will take heart from the return of the influential Daniele Bonera in defence who should help to solve some of their problems at the back, especially after last week’s seven goal thriller with Milan saw them become officially the leakiest defence in Serie A. This has been a major factor in their poor season so far, which currently sees them just inside the relegation zone. They will also be encouraged by the recent form of Marco Marchionni, despite the rumours of his impending departure. Lazio’s 4-1 demolition of Ascoli showed they are improving too and will have given the Tardini outfit something to think about.
Two players who will be hoping to put an end to Lazio’s European ambitions for this year are Bernardo Corradi and Fernando Couto. The Portuguese defender spent seven seasons with the Biancocelesti before he was released in the summer against his wishes. Corradi will also have a score to settle with the Rome club having played at the Olimpico for two years before being sold to Valencia where he struggled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parma (probable): Guardalben; Bonera, Cardone, Couto, Contini; Grella, Dessena, Simplicio, Bresciano; Marchionni, Corradi
Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Oddo, Siviglia, Cribari, Zauri; Manfredini, Mudingayi, Liverani, Pandev; Di Canio; Rocchi
Cool cool. Marchionni is in good form and Dessena is playing well as well. One of the best talents in Italy. ;)

PORTIERI: Bucci, Guardalben
DIFENSORI: Bonera, Cannavaro, Cardone, Contini, Couto, Mattiuzzo, Rossi
CENTROCAMPISTI: Bresciano, Cigarini, Dessena, Grella, Mandorlini, Marchionni, Simplicio

1-1 Didn't get to see the game, but a good result for Parma. :)
Bernardo Corradi scored against his old club in an extremely tense encounter at the Stadio Tardini.
These two fallen giants of the game were polishing their silverware only a few years ago, but financial problems have pushed them into a far less prestigious position. The Gialloblu have the worst defence in Serie A after their 4-3 loss at Milan, while Lazio's away form is very disappointing. Bernardo Corradi and Fernando Couto were facing their former teammates.
Tommaso Rocchi gave the visitors the lead after just six minutes. Massimo Oddo's wayward strike was intercepted and redirected by the former Empoli star, who sprung the offside trap and kept his cool to beat Matteo Guardalben from the penalty spot. It was Rocchi's first Serie A goal of the season outside the Stadio Olimpico.
Parma struggled to find a way back into the game and barely tested Angelo Peruzzi with a Mark Bresciano effort.
But they eventually did equalise in controversial circumstances just before the break. Marco Marchionni sprung the offside trap practically on the halfway line and rolled back for ex-Biancocelesti star Bernardo Corradi to come sliding in. Lazio were furious, as Corradi was offside when the move started, but under the new rules he was not interfering with play.
The tension at the Stadio Tardini was sky high and Lazio Coach Delio Rossi was sent off for dissent, while arguments continued all over the pitch.
The visitors had the first chance of the second half and really should've taken the lead, but Rocchi somehow fired Oddo's low cross wide from less than six yards.
Peruzzi had to be on his toes with a fantastic reaction save on what would've been a Sebastiano Siviglia own goal from six yards.
Domenico Morfeo returned to the Parma squad after his four-match ban expired and tried to inject a little creativity into the side. Rocchi wasted another good chance set up by Fabio Liverani, but neither outfit could find a way through.

Parma: Guardalben; Bonera, Cardone, Couto (Cannavaro 72), Contini; Dessena, Grella, Simplicio; Marchionni, Bresciano (Morfeo 69); Corradi
Lazio: Peruzzi; Oddo, Siviglia, Cribari, Zauri; Manfredini, Dabo, Liverani, Pandev; Di Canio (Mudingayi 65), Rocchi (Tare 85)

Multi-millionaire businessman Gaetano Valenza has declared he's ready to step in tomorrow to buy Parma.
If Lorenzo Sanz fails to meet the final payment of his bid for the Serie A club by midnight tonight, the Spaniard will no longer have exclusive rights to negotiate for the takeover of Parma.
Valenza says his lawyers are ready and waiting for the green light to begin formal talks from tomorrow for the purchase of Parma.
Hm, if Sanz takes over the club I think they'll go into a bit of debt, same happened to Madrid. Not sure about Valenza, don't know much about him to be honest. Hopefully one will buy the club all ready, they've been talking about it for months...
