Iam right footed, 1.8m tall, foot size US11(basically i have a large foot)
Iam a beginner in soccer...I Know how to pass and shoot but i dont know how to do a long pass/free kick/ goal kick....basically i cannot make the ball go high up in the air...the maximum hieght i get the ball go is head high (1.7m)..
+For shooting...I hit the ball with my shoe lace part.....(no problem)
+For long pass...I do the same...but leaning a bit to the back and left-side.....but the ball wont go high up in the air.....Iam starting to wonder whether my technique is correct.....was i shooting all along?
1. Am i supposed to hit it at the shoe lace part for long pass?
2. Am i supposed to hit it at the 'big toe and the instep' part ? I havent tried this yet....i tried the 'instep' part though, didnt work.....the 'big toe and the instep' part needs to be experimented...
3. How can the Goalie kick the ball so high? how does he hit the ball?
Pls help me out here....i practised a lot before coming down here....so pls dont say practise....i know that already.....what i need now is knowledge from u ppl....the technique to hit the ball....

Anybody who plays long passes or goal kick for keepers uses their laces. Its really the only way to get the ball to go far and in the air. I know u say dont say practice but i guess thats the only way to get. One tip from me would be make sure when you strike the ball the other foot is directly in line with the ball and is 4 or 5 inches from the ball. I used to be the same but with practice i got there

My feet are 12 US. Don't let it get you down, as long as you put the time in you'll be alright

I'm gonna have to contradict hardssa here, and tell you that you want your planting foot to be planted a little behind the ball, about 5-8 cm behind the ball, not very far, but enough! And when you hit it, you want to hit it with your "bigtoe/instep" part of your foot, if you're sending a long ball, or taking a free kick in the opponents end, you want to use the same tecnique, and try coming in from the side of the ball, instead of hitting it head on.
But when taking a goal kick, make sure you land on your kicking foot.

1. Am i supposed to hit it at the shoe lace part for long pass?
For a long pass, I (this is what I do) step-off to the left of the ball, and back about 3 paces, then put your planting foot beside but alittle behind the ball, and lean to your left, and to get maximum air-time catch the ball RIGHT where your laces stop going towards your toe. It feels alittle wierd the first couple of times, because alot of people use ALL of there laces, but that won't get you as much air.
2. Am i supposed to hit it at the 'big toe and the instep' part ? I havent tried this yet....i tried the 'instep' part though, didnt work.....the 'big toe and the instep' part needs to be experimented...
See above: Yes, tilt your foot so it'll hit somewhere around the top of your big toe, and step through.
3. How can the Goalie kick the ball so high? how does he hit the ball? Hold the ball arms length away, whatever you do, don't bend your knee when kick, but keep your leg straight and find a spot where you can drop the ball (while keeping your leg straight) and kick the ball around hip section.

:) Thanks for every response i get from u ppl....i take your advices very seriously....i dont judge who is right or wrong....i try all methods and see which suits me best....
Yesterday i practised free kicks against a slope....when i tried to hit it hard, ball wont go high....so i decided to do it slowly....i ran slowly to the ball and 'scooped the ball' ....the ball went high in the air and the length was only 15-20m....is this called 'chip'?
For ppl who learn juggling, there are some drills/lessons like hit the ball with your leg once then let it bounce once on the ground, then hit the ball with your leg again, repeat. Now iam asking whether there are any such drills/lessons for beginners like me for 'long pass/free kick'.
When you learning to do long pass, what was the mistake u did? ,which u later realised and then got it right...(your learning experience will help me and also be encouraging)
The long pass/free kick is currently a massive massive obstacle for me to get through...

No, a "Chip" is when somebody kicks the ball to you, and without trapping it (stopping it) first, you just boot it. It gives you extra momentum from when they kick it to you first.
When you learning to do long pass, what was the mistake u did? My first mistake was that when I took shots on goals I would always lean to my left and kick, thinking that THAT way I could hit the ball evenly in the middle, and on the long pass I wouldn't lean at all thinking that I could kinda get up under the ball. But its completely opposite.
For long passes you gotta lean really far to left and I imagine somehting like a goal or something like that infront of me.

If you would have practised enough then you would have learned it rather than asking on the interenet, I know that as a fact.
The only reason you probably haven't got it because you haven't practised properly or your lieing to get out the easy way. First off you have to remember that you can't just do everything at once since you have just started as a beginner. Second of all you need to take steps when practising because if you hurry yourself you can get many injuries to your body that can either be permanent or long term which is not healthy at all.
Just go outside and play, because asking such a question on the internet might give you a logical explanation but until you actually get a feel for the ball then you will never get it right.
Good luck.

Practise alone will not help..... i need the knowledge from the experienced as well....for example, like most beginners i went about shooting with my toes...until i read somewhere on this forum on how to shoot, only then i realised i was practising the wrong way.....my big toe was so damn sore by then.....now i can shoot, but still learning the long pass...
One problem I had was I wasn't hitting the ball in the right spot, you have to kind of get under it, and I wasn't, just make sure you line up where your foot is going.

You should use your laces area. Try lifting the ball before actually kicking it. Once you can, then you give it a hard kick.

No, when you're putting a shot on net, you want to put more speed onto the ball, and you want it to be low. when you take a free kick, or goal kick, you want to get the ball high in the air, and make it as controllable as it can be, so you're going to get under the ball, and lean back. planting your foot behind the ball a little, and slightly leaing back, should give you a nice lofting ball.

What`s up? may be I can help you.. I had this problem when I was a 12 years old begginer :) Ive bought a Basketball it was the only reason that I have stronge shoots with high acceruray, and ofcourse made me make long balls very easy with no much power as well, I think you should try the basketball thing, when you fell that you are starting to do well with the basketball, go on with a football and belive me you`ll feel the difference, more power in your feet and you`ll feel that you can crash any football, Ive paractising with a baskball for more than 4 months without toughing a football in all this time, and I`ve reached a level that I can play with a basketball like a proffesional.. in the day Ive decided to tough the football again it was amazing, I felt it was like the best day in my life!! :D I was kicking the ball like it`s a piece of paper! can you belive that! :D
Oh and one other thing.. you should run at least twice a week on the sand. (about me, i go to the Gem 4 times a week, and Run on the sand on the beach 5 times aweek) just run as long as you can run, don`t count time. ( I run for only 30 minutes on sand).. Runing on the sand would make your feet like rocks, and also would give you more stamina, that will help you to make long balls and fires shoots even in the last minutes in a 90 minutes matchs.
I wish you luck ;)
take a look at this pic.. It was my footballs and they all had the same disteny ;) :

i usually just use my outside foot to make long passes. i can't pass the ball accurate with my instep foot like david beckham. is there any reason why? thanks

Are you coming onto the ball from the wrong direction, or somehting? I don't get what you're asking really. Elaborate a little :yellow:

you mean like Roberto Carlos? It`s not a problem I think , I guess It`s a playing style, you just have used to it and you forgot how to pass the ball by instep foot. :D

when i take a long kick i stand 5 steps from the left side of the ball(im a righty)then turn 90 degess towards the ball so im facing it then when i go to kick i turn my hips 90 degrees back, plant my foot 11 to 9 inches away from the ball and try and kick the bottom part of the ball with the ened of my laces and try and lean to the left as if i was gonna fall back over the way i came from

Thanks :D for everyone's help in this thread...i can finally make crosses/ long pass/ free kicks.... even though i cant get the accuracy right at the moment...iam sure by practise i can get that.... i also couldnt kick the ball as high as goal kicks but that is probably because iam not putting enough power in my shots... Thank god Iam out of this deep hole.. Trust me it is not nice being there...
