Germany Keen On Argentina Match
On Oct. 7, 2000, Germany made history by beating England 1-0 in the final game to be played at old Wembley. Since then, Germany has been establishing a record it would rather not have.
For four years and four months, the country has been waiting to beat another top-ranked team, losing eight and drawing two against so-called traditional soccer powers.
Looking further back, Germany has won only two of the last 20 games against such teams since 1996.
The next chance will come Wednesday in Duesseldorf when Germany plays Argentina, considered by many as the best team in the world at the moment.
Argentina leads the South American World Cup qualifying, ahead of five-time World Cup champion Brazil.
"For us, the Argentina match is a real highlight that we want to win at all cost," Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann said. "It's time to beat another big team again."
The game kicks off Germany's preparations for next year's World Cup on home soil. Klinsmann has been in charge for just over six months and has made winning soccer's most prestigious title his goal.
To achieve that, Klinsmann has set a crowded schedule of exhibition matches since Germany, as host, is the only team that doesn't have to qualify.
Klinsmann takes a 5-1-1 record into the match, which includes a 1-1 draw against Brazil in September.
Germany will play Argentina again this summer during the Confederations Cup, the dress rehearsal for the World Cup.
"It's important to win to gain self-confidence for the Confederations Cup and the World Cup," striker Kevin Kuranyi said. "We want to show the fans, the competition and ourselves that our goal of winning the World Cup title is realistic."
Argentina, Olympic champion in Athens last year, is one of the few teams to have a winning record against Germany, with seven wins, five defeats and two draws. Argentina has won the last two matches.
The two teams have met twice in World Cup finals, with Germany avenging its 1986 loss with a victory in the 1990 final, when it won the last of its three World Cup titles and when Klinsmann was still the team's striker.
Argentina also has a new coach in Jose Pekerman, who is undefeated in four games (three wins, one draw). Pekerman won the world U-21 title three times before stepping in for Marcelo Bielsa, who resigned unexpectedly after the triumph in Athens.
"The match against Germany is a very important test for us," Pekerman said. "The Germans are in a team-building phase and so are we."
Pekerman has recalled two veterans - striker Hernan Crespo of AC Milan and Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar.
Crespo hasn't played for the national team since June, but the striker has recovered his goal-scoring touch since moving to Milan from Chelsea.
Argentina will be without Wolfsburg playmaker Andres D'Alessandro, who is injured.
Klinsmann will be missing two injured defenders, Philipp Lahm and Robert Huth.
Two strikers also have been forced to drop out with injuries - Lukas Podolski and his replacement, Oliver Neuville. Thomas Brdaric received a late call-up Monday to complete the roster.

I am actually extremely pleased with the way Germany played, specially the first half when they put so much pressure in the midfield that Argentina was not able to put more than two passes together to dry out their strikers; if we put aside the score and look at the facts; first Argentina's goal was a gift from the referee on a noon existing penalty and for the most part the scoring chances were overwhelmingly on Germany’s side. Add the fact of Germany missing more key players than them.
Germany’s second half wasn’t bad either, but too similar to what they have played in the last 10 years that brings mixed results, most the time not working right against top teams. If Germany can figure out a second world class striker to compliment Kuranyi they will have it all at WC2006 to win.

i think lukas is a better striker. he isnt afraid to take on players, he is fast and has a good heading ability also. also he has age on his side, he is only 19. the only problem is that, he is playing in 2 bundesliga right now.

:-) Lukas Podolski can be one, the problem is that we are technically one year away, whoever is going to fill the spot has to be called right now, play at this summer nations cup (WC rehersal) otherwise that player -as good as he might be- can get dilutted by the pressure of the WC. So far, even Kuranyi is one notch below that level but I am confident he is going to break through in the months ahead.

Kuranyi's there for sure. But who will partner him
Klose - good with head, but very unreliable other wise. Has many bad patches
Brdaric- like henry, god for club, bad for country
Lauth- Rough player and l;ots of offsides. no big match experience
Bobic- Old as my grandma, i remeber seeing him in NT colours when i was in 8th grade.
Podolski- Talented, tackles well, no big match experience
Asmoah - crap in bundesliga and crap for NT
Of all the choices, I would go for Podolski, and keep lauth/klose as back up.

Hey, intresting news
Klinsmann wants to appoint Berti Vogts as cheif scout and assistant trainer. The finalisation of deal will be done with DFB later today. It will be great to have him back. Its the euro 96 winning combination once again. Now we will repeat euro 96 at wc06 ;)

Just about the whole coaching staff were members of that great euro'96team.
coach klinsmann- captain at euro96
asistant bierhoff- scored winning goal in final at euro96
asistant vogts - winning coach euro96
Gk coach koepke- gk hero of euro96(especially v italy and england)
also other euro96 members Dieter eilts and juergen kohler are in charge of the german youth teams, hopefully the winning mentality will be passed on to the current players because 10 years without a trophy is to long to wait for a nation with germany's football pedigree.

Is Andreas Kopke also signed as goalkeeping coach?? The last i heard about him, was that he was doing a musical on football in Salzburg. Now the only person missing is Andreas Moller. They should get him to train the mid fields on the art of effective one touch passing. I am all of a sudden extremely optimistic.

koepke was signed a few months back after klinsmann asked sepp maier to leave, klinsmann was annoyed with maier for criticising jens lehmann in the press and openly favouring oliver kahn as his #1 for 2006, a sad situation really but i'm sure koepke should be an adequate replacement...btw did'nt know he could sing.

Klinsmann seems to be bringing back a few oldies into the team recently like hamann, babbel, neuville etc., don't know if thats a good idea coz thus far he's done really well by playing mostly young talent, though i suppose we do need a few veterans in there as well for the sake of experience.
The slovenia match could be tougher than some might think, their decent opposition on their home turf beating italy in a world cup qualifier not long ago.

yes, babbel and neuville arent even club startes. I dont know the basis for picking them up. Hamman is not doing all that bad. Besides 31-32 is not what exactly i'll call an oldie.

DFB is offering money if we win world cup...
here is article
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is so damn stupid, we dont need money to motivate our players to winn world cup. This is not saudi arabia or zaire nt. I personally would take it as an insult on my integrity if some one offered me more money for winning. Winning wc is a matter of national pride, and not money. I hope Klinsmann accept this stupid offer. The money can be spent, rather providing good infrastructure to football academies in the east.

U21 football..... England 2- Germany 2, Germany retains top spot in group...

Germany won with slovenia 1-0
A goal from newcommer and youngstriker Lukas Podolski

Hey Guys,
I'm from Northern Ireland and as you may or may not know,we are playing you on 4th June.
There has been a debate on a Northern Ireland forum about whether the song 'Dambusters' would offend you or not so I decided to come on here and see what the opinion is.
We sing this tune at most matches just because we like the tune but were wondering whether we should stop singing it because of what it is realated to. i.e World War.
Thanks

It's a song written for the RAF or something after the war.I don't really know the history of it.

i'm sure there would be other equally melodious songs which both sets of fans can actually sing together.

Juni in Deutschland stattfindenden Confederations-Cup bekanntgegeben.
Juni 2004 beim EM-Vorrundenaus in Portugal gegen Tschechien (1:2).
Juni 2005 (20.45 Uhr) in Frankfurt/Main gegen Australien. Am 18. Juni 2005 (18.00 Uhr) ist Tunesien in Köln der zweite Gegner. Zum Abschluss der Vorrunde trifft die Auswahl von Bundestrainer Jürgen Klinsmann am 21. Juni 2005 (20.45 Uhr) in Nürnberg auf Argentinien.
Das deutsche Aufgebot:
Tor: Oliver Kahn (Bayern München), Jens Lehmann (FC Arsenal), Timo Hildebrand (VfB Stuttgart)
Abwehr: Arne Friedrich (Hertha BSC Berlin), Andreas Hinkel (VfB Stuttgart), Robert Huth (FC Chelsea), Per Mertesacker (Hannover 96), Patrick Owomoyela (Arminia Bielefeld), Christian Schulz (Werder Bremen)
Mittelfeld:Michael Ballack (FC Bayern München), Tim Borowski (Werder Bremen), Sebastian Deisler (FC Bayern München), Fabian Ernst (Werder Bremen), Torsten Frings (FC Bayern München), Dietmar Hamann (FC Liverpool), Thomas Hitzlsperger (Aston Villa), Bernd Schneider (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern München)
Angriff: Gerald Asamoah (FC Schalke 04), Mike Hanke (FC Schalke 04), Miroslav Klose (Werder Bremen), Kevin Kuranyi (VfB Stuttgart), Lukas Podolski (1. FC Köln)
..............................................................................
I'm very glad for Sebastian...just hope he'll be a starter!
I don't understand why Kehl and Metzelder weren't included (for me it has no sense, as Borussia was the best team in "die ruckrunde" apart from Bayern...I think their work should have been better appreciated)...why persist in selecting an old Hamann and not give a resurgent Kehl a chance?
A bad loss is also the absence of shooting star Philipp Lahm...a sad note for the NT, although I'm sure Hitzlsperger will deputise wery well for the absentee.
To add to all that, I don't like a bit Lehmann and Asamoah being selected (although they were sure things). "The cherry on the cake" will be their inclosure in the WC squad...I just hope they won't be needed in the thick of the action!

Germany's Lahm out for six months
BERLIN, May 18 (Reuters) - Germany defender Philipp Lahm is likely to be out for six months after tearing a cruciate ligament in his right knee in training on Tuesday.
Lahm, 21, currently with VfB Stuttgart, is set to join German champions Bayern Munich next season. He was to have played against Bayern in his final match for Stuttgart on Saturday.
'When we heard the news, we had to pull out all the stops,' said Bayern coach Felix Magath. 'I'm not counting on him before Christmas. I hope he'll be available for the second half of the season.'
Bayern already have a replacement in French left back Bixente Lizarazu, who signed a year's extension to his contract on Tuesday, although Magath said Bayern had already decided last week to keep him on until 2006.
Lahm was loaned by Bayern to Stuttgart two years ago and had established himself in the German national side, having made a strong impression at Euro 2004 in Portugal despite Germany's first-round exit.
He will miss the Confederations Cup which Germany is hosting from June 15-29.
The left back, who has played for just a month after fracturing a bone in his foot in January, will travel to a specialist in Vail, Colorado, on Thursday for an operation on Monday.

Deisler and Didi return for Germans
BERLIN, May 18 (Reuters) - Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann recalled Bayern Munich's Sebastian Deisler and Liverpool's Dietmar Hamann in a 23-man squad for the Confederations Cup next month.
Deisler last played for Germany in the 2-0 victory over Iran in October. However, in the same month he flew back from Italy ahead of Bayern Munich's match against Juventus and returned to the clinic where he had previously been treated for depression.
He has not been in the frame for the national team since and has generally been left out of Bayern's starting line-up.
Hamann's last international match was Germany's 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic in Euro 2004 in June, which resulted in Germany's exit from the competition. He has not featured in any of Klinsmanns' squads.
However, the 31-year-old midfielder has been instrumental in Liverpool's passage to the final of the Champions League, notably with a battling performance in the 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final.
Klinsmann also called up debutant Mike Hanke, 21, a striker from Schalke 04 for the competition which is being staged in Germany.
Germany play Australia, Tunisia and Argentina in the group stage of the competition running from June 15 to 29. Brazil, Greece, Mexico and Japan feature in the other group.
Germany will warm up for the Cup with matches against Bayern Munich on May 31, Northern Ireland on June 4 and Russia on June 8.

Don't get me wrong with the Hamann issue. I liked his game...a tall, elegant holding midfielder, but I felt that Euro 2004 was his swan song. At that event he hasn't closed down his opponents with his usual effectiveness and his lack of speed was heavily exploited (I remember that moment when Maris Verpakovskis broke loose from midfield with Hamann trailing in his tracks). Sebastian Kehl too is a player in the Hamann mold (lanky fellow, with a powerful drive), but, certainly, better suited to this fast-cutting game Germany is trying to develop. Having said all that I still think Frings has the upper-hand on them both (in that area of the field).

You're point right with your choices. The only problem is that Beni Lauth is injured and will be out of action for at least 3 or 4 months (from now on). Otherwise Klinsi would have picked him...or so I think.

Kahn - Hinkel, Huth, Mertesacker, Hitzlsperger - Schweinsteiger, Ballack, Ernst, Deisler - Kuranyi, Poldi
...Miro Klose seems out of form, failing to deliver lately.

Ok I have a question personally I like Schwienstiger, Disler, and Ballack, I also like Leyman. Now anyway I don't know much German Football... Can anyone tell me about your defenders or who your choice of forwards are gonna be. I havn't seen any new forwards come out of Germany in awhile. I am hoping to see a great German Defence. You Midfield looks nice though except for Hitzelberger he is garbage.

We have a bright young talent in Lahm, very good fullback, has tons of pace, good skill...bring's a lot to an experienced youthful side. We have Huth, who isn't offensively gifted, but brings size, and presence to the table.

It should have been great if he had been off just for one month. It's said they'll be seven...torn cruciate ligaments, the precise thing another Bayern fullback experienced (Andreas Goerlitz, who resumed training just about these days).

...as a big picture your team seems pretty much the thing. I'm with it with few adjustments: Worns shouldn't be selected anymore (he'll be 33-34 at the WC) and instead of Frings, Ernst or Kehl should be nominated. Torsten Frings made the holding role his own, but not being first choice at Bayern would hamper his chances.
Also: Lauth for Asamoah as a second choice forward.

I´m not sure if Hitzelsperger should play in the German NT...I mean, he´s an average player from an average club :S
Wörns should (and will, if he´s not injured) play in 2006, he will be 34 years old but that´s an acceptable age for inner defense.
And why should Lauth play? He didn´t make many games this season and the ones he made weren´t that great...Asamoah is not that good at making many goals but he´s a strong and very fast player...he can be used also for offensive midfield.
But I agree with you that Frings doesn´t have to play necessarily in the starting team, Ernst or Kehl are also very good for that position...
besides, I don´t think that Frings could play on the right wing instead of Deisler...he´s not good at that position, better let it do Schneider or Freier.

I gree, most poeple I know who follow aston villa matches tell me that hitzlsperger is just an average player there, and doesnt even play regular football for the club. I also agree on Freier over Frings. didnt strike me.
Why do you say Asmoah is fast?? I think he is rather bulky and slow, and can be best used as offensive midfield, but not as a main striker.

I almost agree with you guys! Frings over Deisler doesn't seem to me like the ideal solution for the right midfield berth. Torsten hasn't got the speed of an out-and-out winger...he's better suited in the holding role, where he can dictate the pace of the medial line and recover balls other can use better. Schneider or even Freier seem the sensible solutions in that area of the game, I have to agree. But when I nominated Deisler I was looking a year from now (not necessary at this given moment)...I just hope he can turn his faith around for the next season. You have to agree that between Schneider, Freier and him, he's the more complete player. He completed the last 5 or 6 matches for Bayern and with some aplomb. I don't give up on him, not yet...he'll deliver the goods come the WC! (you'll see!)
...In what regards Asamoah, I think he played too many matches for the NT...at least more than he would have deserved (he scored a mere 3 goals out of 26 showings). As a marksman he was never suspected!...but I don't like his game either (he doesn't bring much, except for comitment). Lauth, on the other side played 6-7 matches this season and scored 5 times and pretty important goals (decisive ones) I would say...his sole disadvantage is his injury proness, otherwise being a very pacey striker with good skill and shot.
Hitzlsperger...well I saw him 3 or 4 times this season and I wasn't that impressed with his general game, but he has quite a thunderous shot (he isn't cold the "Hammer" for nothing). But then again, who do you see on the left side of the defense now that Lahm is injured? Tobias Rau hasn't played a game in ages and the two Christians (Pander from Schalke and Schulz from Werder) didn't impress in the NT colours.
We have debated long enough! Let's wait and see Klinsi's choices. He calls the shots as far as the NT is concerned...that's a done thing. I hope he'll be inspired...with or without Deisler I want Germany to win (the Confeds and then the WC), and with style too.

Bayern to take on German national side
MUNICH, May 30 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich begin a new era with a leisurely run out against the German national team in their first match at the 280 million euro ($352 million) Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
Oliver Kahn, Michael Ballack, Torsten Frings, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sebastian Deisler -- all members of Juergen Klinsmann's squad for the Confederations Cup -- will line up against their international team mates in Bayern's first home match since signing off from the Olympic Stadium.
The fans will come to celebrate the club's fifth domestic double, clinched on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Schalke 04 in the Cup final in Berlin, and get their first look at the stadium that will host the opening match at the 2006 World Cup.
The match itself is unlikely to be a full-blooded contest, although Klinsmann will be keen to see how Champions League winner Dietmar Hamann of Liverpool performs on his return to the national team after a year out.
'I won't get definitive answers from this game but there will be things to add to the overall impression,' the coach said in the build-up to the game.
'This match is also a way of honouring Bayern for their cooperation with the German Football Association over so many years.'
For World Cup organisers, the match will be a first real test of logistics at the new stadium.
The venue has already staged one practice match, when 30,000 fans turned up to watch a game between veterans of Bayern and TSV 1860 Munich, the two clubs who will share the stadium.
Two matches this week will provide a much stiffer test in terms of getting access, ticketing and security right.
On Monday night, the venue will stage a festival of fireworks and music before 1860 Munich face Nuremberg in a match that kicks off at 1815 GMT.
Bayern's first match at the new stadium on Tuesday at 1915 GMT should be the first 66,000 sell-out.
Germany continue their preparations for the Confederations Cup with friendly internationals against Northern Ireland in Belfast on June 4 and Russia in Moenchengladbach on June 8.
The Confederations Cup runs from June 15 to 29. Germany are in Group A along with Australia, Argentina and Tunisia. Group B is made up of Brazil, Greece, Japan and Mexico. The matches will be played in Hanover, Leipzig, Cologne, Frankfurt and Nuremberg.

a match which no one took seriously. The allianz arena looks amgnificent anyways. I hope we are much more serious for the Northern Ireland game.
MUNICH, May 31 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich set their new World Cup stadium aglow inside and out with a blazing 4-2 victory over a Germany XI on Tuesday.
Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena on opening night (JanPitman/GettyImages)
Sebastian Deisler, one of five Bayern players representing club rather than country, opened the scoring in the fifth minute and a Robert Huth own goal made it 2-0 just before the break.
A Tim Borowski penalty brought Juergen Klinsmann's side back into the game at the start of the second half but Willy Sagnol and Hasan Salihamidzic scored either side of a Miroslav Klose blast to clinch a Bayern win.
The result sealed an ideal housewarming for the breathtaking new Allianz Arena, the 280 million euro ($345.1 million) venue that will stage the opening ceremony and the inaugural match at the 2006 World Cup.
'That was a nice present for the fans,' Klinsmann told a news conference. 'The result didn't matter at all. We were just trying to get some rhythm after the players had come back from holiday.'
The stadium was designed by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron and built in 2-1/2 years.
By day, the greyish-white oval Arena could be described as looking like a rubber dinghy afloat on a motorway junction.
FOOTBALL BEACON
By night, it is something else entirely, with the outer skin glowing red if Bayern Munich are playing or blue when city rivals TSV 1860 are the home side.
The chameleon-like ground will be literally a beacon for fans.
The match was an opportunity for Bayern to celebrate their league and cup double, while giving the fans a first taste of what life will be like following the move from the Olympic Stadium.
The presence of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Deisler, Torsten Frings, Oliver Kahn and Michael Ballack in the red shirts of Bayern rather than the white of the national side tipped the balance.
Klinsmann must have been worried at the way his weakened side failed to keep the ball in the first half after Schweinsteiger had beaten the offside trap and teed up Deisler to slide in the opening goal.
Bayern controlled the game throughout the first half but could only manage one more goal, when Huth deflected in Schweinsteiger's cross-shot.
Martin Demichelis gave away a marginal penalty with a foul on Klose and the Germany side enjoyed a few minutes of possession before Bayern regained their appetite.
After a handful of near-misses, Sagnol struck from the edge of the box and the ball went in off the post to make it 3-1 in the 74th minute.
Ballack hit the post as Bayern pressed before Klose got the second for Germany, driving the ball past substitute keeper Michael Rensing in the 86th minute.
A minute later, Salihamidzic turned in Deisler's excellent cross from the right to keep the fans cheering before the start of the post-match firework display.

As for the Belfast fixture don't worry a bit...they haven't won a match in years. I predict a 4-0 for that one. The Monchengladbach game with the russians will be, though, tougher. I see a 3-1 for that one. What do you expect from these matches in terms of score figures?
I saw last night some new boys in the NT colours. I read about them, but actually I didn't see them till then. Poldi didn't seem as full of intent as he ussualy is...I expected more from the kid. Rensing, tough, impressed me.
As for the central axe of defense do you think Klinsi will favour a Huth-Friedrich combination? Arne has been in pretty good form in the second part of the season. He seemed to have lost the plot under Klinsi, but now he's back (actualy I think he together with Schweini, Ballack and Lahm were the top performers for Germany at Euro 2004). I expect Metze to step out too from this quiet retreat and put good performences in order to be reselected for the NT. He certainly is needed as far sa I can see...Huth doesn't seem to me the player to build a defense around.

Situations like this can occur (getting to play with 10 men for about the entire match) and it shows Germany has strong characters in its players. This is a slap on the face for those who questioned Ballack's leadership qualities, too. He must have been inspirational for the team, with two goals and one assist. 2-2 it ended. Satisfactory score I would say.
Did any one else also notice the booing by the dutchfans during our national anthem. Sometimes they take it far too personally...
coming back to the game, the dutch outclassed us in the first half. Not a good return to the NT for hamann. we missed the creative spark of schweinsteiger. Klose, as usual, didnt do much. I wish we had hanke for this game, but since he played the day before in u-21's 3-1 win over poland he could not be picked.
In second half we showed some life, and got a deserved 2-2 draw. There are some players we must phase out before the world cup- nowotny and Wörns. Huth and Metzelder can fill in the place of the two. I was also dissapointed by Friedrich yesterday... to may loose balls, no overlapping runs. A different friedrich than the one of the confederations.
The only players who I could say played well- Ballack , Deisler (though he came as a sub) and Borowski. Good comeback and fight back, to end the match.

Ballack has been in good form as of late. he was top scorer in the confederations cup, and also has had two good games for bayern so far.
Makaay played the second half, and did look dangerous. Deisler also came on as a second half substitute for Ernst.
As for the forwrads... I'll rate them as follows

------klose-----asamoah----------------------
bad starting line up. I would take both Hinkel and Friedrich over Owomoyela. hitzlsperger??? why is he even there? Where was Lahm? Atleast jansen should have been started. Ernst also, I have lost faith in.
The performance was not our best, for a team that is a world cup aspirant. We played well in the confederations. thats the type of game we should maintain.
Hopefully the game against South Africa will be able to get us back the confidence.

This is not a troll, but I'm genuinly curious as to what happened yesterday vs Slovakia. The last time I watched the Slovaks play was their WC qualifier vs Portugal in early June and the Portuguese easily handled them, making me think they weren't really a quality side. Nachi88, Pfeife, or any other German fans, what fell apart in this game and what needs to be fixed, or can it?

I would like to know that too, because I didn´t see the game (had to work, and unfortunately I won´t be able to see tomorrow's game either).
What I heard from the game, Germany's defense sucked pretty much (not used to play together, but that's no secret), and the whole team seemed uninspired and tired (dunno from what though).
Also, a clear goal by Ballack was denied, but that shall be no excuse because Germany should have won anyways.
What surprised me especially is that Ballack openly said that he missed Kahn and Frings in the team, that's an indirect critic about Klinsmann's goalkeeper rotation.
I hope that the team wakes up and stops playing the way they have been playing the past 2 games, otherwise they won't be able to reach their goal in 2006.

I havent watched this one.
The back line- owomoyela-sinkiewicz-mertesacker-jansen is the youngest we had since 1954. Podolski scored a hattrick. Seems he is just cementing his place for the wc06 finals.

I didn't see the match, but it seems it was a pretty good one. I actually saw the goals...glorious finishes for Poldi- the first period ladder and the last of the three. In the second half he was the one to open the floodgates and seems to have convinced Klinsi to select him for the coming games. In my opinion he's pure gold...clearly the first choice striker. Next in the pecking order are: Miro Klose, Benni Lauth, Mike Hanke and Kevin Kuranyi.
What do you think about Tim Borowski's showing on the day? I read in Kicker he was inch perfect...strong in the tackles, fast moving...realy a solid all-around performance. Can he be an option for the problematic holding role? Frings doesn't seem to be the one he once was (from the Dortmund time), Ernst fails to deliver when asked to, Kehl for certain reasons seem to be overlooked...can Tim be the solution? Some say he plays the same game as Ballack - an attacking midfielder - but I, for some reasons, think he can be used in the holding role.
Marcell Jansen had good performances in the last games...he made his breakthrough. If Lahm's injury vows continue, he is the man for the left fullback berth. Lukas Sinkiewicz was strong too...so I've heard!
my next eleven (for the Turkey match) would be:
Kahn - Friedrich, Mertesacker, Metzelder (it will probably be Sinkiewicz), Jansen - Deisler, Borowski, Ballack, Schweini - Poldi, Klose
substitutes: Hildebrand, Hinkel, Frings, Ernst, Kuranyi.

Borowksi is a top player in the bundesliga at the moment, and the good thing is that he can also play in the right offensive midfield (not as a classical winger though). Frings showed also highly satisfying games lately and should also start for Germany.
My 11:
Kahn
Friedrich Wörns Mertesacker Jansen
Borowski Frings Ballack Schweinsteiger
Poldi Klose

why do you want to leave Klose out? He is the top scorer of the Bundesliga at the moment (7 goals in 7 games), he has to play.
Metzelder is still searching for his old form (allthough his last 2 games were alot better, he even scored yesterday :)), untill he is that good again, I prefer Wörns.
And Deisler hasn't made one single impressing game for Bayern this season, he shouldn't be rewarded for that, especially because we have Borowski for this position.

The main reason, i leave out Klose, is I feel the backline very vulnerable without Hamann. If we have to play with lone striker for that case, so be it. I feel he is totally necessary to hold the defense in place. I cannot ever imagine Frings doing a Hamann role. Maybe Engelhardt, but Frings as a suitable defensive mid?

Since Frings is playing for Werder again, he is the best defensive midfielder of the Bundesliga by far. He already explained in interviews that he didn't feel very well in Munich, and that he's glad to be back in Bremen.
Besides, I would also prefer Kehl from Dortmund over Hamann. Hamann is still a good man for the defensive midfield, but not first choice anymore.

Not a very encouraging performance by DFB elf yesterday. Ballack was surely missed, Deisler, i feel is a must in this team. He must be taken, ahead of Schweinsteiger or Frings. Kuranyi was looking lost yesterday. If he continues a performance like this, then Klose and Podolski both are much better.
Klinsmann, who could get a lot out of the team in the confederations, seems to have lost the ability ot motivate them. Only world cup will surely be a motivating factor enough.
Inspite of all this, I still feel, we are very well capable of winning the wc, provided our players play to their limits.
The side isnt changed much for the China game. Lets see how the performance is in this one.

Don't u think that Asamoah (i dunno how to spell it) is better than Klose and Kuranyi ?? Though am no the greatest fan of Germany, this is how I feel :frusty: when I see Klose or Kuranyi playing were once ppl like Voeller and Klinsmann used to play.
By the way did u read what Kahn said ?? He was kinda furious and said that its y time the team stop saying the xcuse that we lost due to the absence of Ballack. But u r still saying that :D

Asamoah isnt better than Klose. Anybody/anything is better than how Kuranyi played against Turkey. Podolski is better than them all. Hanke too, is improving quite steadily. But otherwise, its Kuranyi and Ailton who play first choice for Schalke 04, Asamoah being the substitute. Asamoah is the sturdy type, who can be used as a support striket if Germany is winning 1-0, 2-0 in a game and wants to shift to a slightly defensive gear. He makes good use of his body strength.
I agree with you on the other point though- We lost because we didnt play good enough. lets see how things turn out against China today.

Not the right result...I expected a good crop of goals - 4 or 5 at least...one goal, and that from a penalty, is not enough.
We are going from bad to worse...and I don't know why. It's like the motivation isn't there anymore...this aspect leaves much to be wanted, I think. These are young guys, the majority of them...they should play out of their socks.
A positive note - the comeback of Metzelder...with Lahm back, in a short time (he expects to feature in the return leg of the Bayern-Juve tie), we'll have an improved defence.
Let's hope we'll perform in the Paris game...we must make ourselves justice and play to our full potential.
With Ballack back, I expect far better performances in the wc year.
...in normal circumstances the first "11" should be: Kahn - Friedrich, Metzelder, Mertesacker, Lahm - Deisler, Ballack, Frings (Kehl), Schweini - Poldi, Klose (Lauth)...by the way, Owomoyela sucks (he's a bad shower)...he should be left out of it...

A good result on Stade de France...but, more encouraging, a very good team performance...much credit to Kinsmann for motivating his men for the final friendly of the season...as if the prospect of playing a top rival wasn't motivating eenough
...too bad we didn't win, as we remain without a win against a top nation for 5 years now...
We really battled hard, and should have won by my account...
...Ballack roamed the midfield as usual...he showed a lot of spirit and great determination to play through the game, as he was fouled on numerous ocasions
...Deisler played a great first half and really made inroads on the right hand side...such a pitty he came off from a brutal Gallas foul (the French really showed us why they are better at rugby than at football...grosse tackles)
...Schweini entered the fray after the interval and came really nice into the game - good combinations with Ballack
...Poldi had a great linkschuss in the beggining (should that had come off, it would have been a tremendous goal)...he and Klose battled well and were good value for their selection
...finally, I must say I was impressed with the central backs - Per played really well...he contained well with the potent French strikers...and Huth was a revelation - he didn't make one single mistake, as he was always prone to them for not playing regular football (with Metze, who would have started, if he hadn't fallen before the game, we have 3 very capable CBacks)
...die Aussen (Friedrich and Jansen) played solid football as well...
Next up, Italy...the 1st of march...

BALLACK TO MISS ENGLAND CLASH
Germany captain Michael Ballack has admitted he does not expect to recover from injury in time to face England at Wembley on August 22.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been struggling to overcome an ankle problem, which has also ruled him out of Chelsea's start to the new Premier League season.
And despite the game still being a week and a half away, he does not expect to feature.
I still expect Germany will win even without Ballack in action!!

GERMANY LINE UP FRIENDLIES
21/12/07
Germany will face Belarus and Serbia as part of their build-up to Euro 2008, the German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Wednesday.
Joachim Low's side will fly to Kaiserslautern from their training camp in Majorca for the clash with Belarus on May 27 before returning to the Balearic Island immediately after the game.
They will then travel to Gelsenkirchen to face Serbia on Saturday, May 31 - their final fixture before their opening Euro 2008 group fixture against Poland on June 8 in Klagenfurt.
"We have selected these opponents for a reason," revealed Low.
"According to our information, Belarus and Serbia closely match the mentality and playing style of our group opponents Poland and Croatia."
Low admitted it had proved difficult to arrange a friendly in Majorca, hence the day-trip to the Fritz-Walter Stadium for the Belarus fixture.
He said: "We are happy to break off our training camp and use this opportunity to present ourselves in front of our fantastic supporters in Germany."
Germany have also confirmed their base for Euro 2008 will be in Ascona, Switzerland.

Germany is not going to play hard at all...
Serbia will
The reason Germany is playing a friendly against Serbia is because they heard we are the closest footballing mentality and gameplay to Croatia...
Germany is not going to risk any injuries..
For Serbia it will be a chance for the younger or underrated players to prove themselves...
All in all, it should be fun and full of excitement..I expect at least 1 goal from Podolski..

Upcoming International Friendly for German NT
May 27th. 2008 Germany vs Belarus
(Home Game)
May 31st. 2008 Germany vs Serbia
(Away Game)
Both are important matches before the start of Euro 2008. My prediction Germany will win both game altho the one against Serbis will be a tough one.
Germany head coach Joachim Loew has dropped striker Patrick Helmes plus midfielders Jermaine Jones and teenager Marko Marin from his Euro 2008 squad, it was announced on Wednesday.
Loew named an extended squad on May 16 for a training camp in Mallorca, but had to drop three players before submitting his final 23-man squad for the tournament, co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland, which begins on June 7.
“The decision made by our coaching team was a very difficult one,” said Loew.
“It was a millimetre decision, because everyne of the three players earned their place in the Euro 2008 squad.
“The decision was especially hard as all three did well in the training camp and will have a role to play in the national team after the tournament.”
All three played in Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with minnows Belarus and were told of the decision is a team meeting on Wednesday morning.
Germany face Serbia in their final warm-up game in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday and open their Euro 2008 campaign against Poland in Klagenfurt on June 8.
2-2 against Belarus. That wasn't what I had expected..

Hey,
I thought Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose would be in the startelf of the german team, but Mario Gomez wasn't in for the friendly a few days a go. He had some kind of injury. Do you think he will be in the startelf this tournamnet next to klose? or would it be podolski, or maybe kuranyi?
Maybe the german users of this forum can answer this question?

Well i can see Germany comming close like always but some how in the semi finals we get tough opponents and we always get beat, we always have bad luck when it comes in the euros, i dont know why but germany always seems to do better in world cup? where there is more pressure being put on them.....
It would be great if Germany win this years euro, but lets not get carried away to easily now because theres still a lot of good teams out there like Spain, France, Italy who have the potential to win the euros.........

Jens Lehmann the German NT goalkeeper has official resigned from his national team duty. He's 38 years old and it's time for him to step down anyway to give way for the younger keeper. But wht an achivement and contribution he had done. Well done Lehmann.
LEHMANN CALLS TIME ON GERMANY
09.August.2008
Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has announced his retirement from international football.
The 38-year-old made the announcement on Friday afternoon following a two-hour meeting with Germany coach Joachim Low and his assistant Andreas Kopke.
The decision brings to an end a 10-year international career, the final game of which came in Germany's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2008.
In a statement on the Germany Football Association (DFB) website, Lehmann revealed his decision had been made after he could not guarantee his long-term future in the meeting with Low and Kopke.
Lehmann had previously mooted retiring from the game before signing a 12-month deal with Bundesliga club
Stuttgart following his departure from Arsenal last season.
"I can't guarantee that I will still be playing football beyond the 12 months of my contract with Stuttgart," Lehmann said.
"Therefore, I suggested that the Germany team no longer include me in their plans. I have had a great time with them, and the 2006 World Cup was a particularly special experience."

Their next game will be Germany - Belgium on August 20, 2008 in Nürnberg.
Both teams have met before in 22 international matches. Germany won 17, Belgium four, one match ended with a draw. The last match on the 31st of march 2004 was won by Germany 3-0. Technically Germany should win this one easily :)

Today's the game. I predict Germany 2-1 Belgium. They're missing Ballack and Frings during this friendly and the coach stated he's going to call up some youngsters ahead of the usual 11.
Question: I heard Germany is scheduling a game with Bayern Munich as a retirement celebration for Oliver Kahn. Kahn made a funny quote: "I hope Klinnsman fields me". Remember Klinnsman fielded Lehmann over Kahn in 2006 World Cup and now Klinnsman is also coach of Bayern Munich.

The match against Russia will be a very difficult one, because we all saw how Russia managed to beat a fully loaded Netherlands squad. I just hope Neuer from Schalke 04 will get called up for starting goal keeper because we need someone like him in net because Russia will be comming out strong on us and wont take us lightly. Germany captain Michael Ballack has pulled out of forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Finland.
Ballack's bruised and inflamed left foot means he will have to miss the September 6 clash against Liechtenstein and the game in Finland four days later.

That was the idea of some old men of The FIFA organisation , everbody hates this decision, we are back in 1954 :boo: but more important they have to use the numbers from 1-11,so ballack can't use 13, Gomez can't use 33 and so on.

Although I do not agree with removing the names form the jerseys I do not fully agree with setting the limit on 18 for numbers I believe it is good to have certain control over how jerseys are numbered.
For 2010 World Cup including qualifiers (and I am reciting from memory what I read in the FIFA website a while back) teams will number their jerseys consecutively from 1 to 18. Not 1 to 11 as you mentioned, Hitzlsperger wore number 15 as a starter and Marin wore Michael Ballack’s 13.
I would not mind seeing jerseys numbered up to 23 and 24 as this has been done before when teams had to submit a roster of 24 to FIFA before certain deadline, then drop some players for the final list; but I would hate to see those 88’s or 99’s that make Football (soccer) jerseys look like American Football. I also oppose to the practice of “retiring jerseys” like mainly American Sports which Argentina tried to do in the last WC asking FIFA to retire jersey No.10 in honor to Maradona. Well said by FIFA when they told them: you can retire the jersey as long as you subtract a player from the roster.
Coincidentally, Argentina also used a stupid system to number the jerseys in World Cup 1978 that they hosted but only their own team used it: alphabetically, so Osvaldo Ardiles wore Number 1 jersey playing in the field (weird!), to prove how stupid the system was, for the following World Cup they used it again but Maradona refused to wear his assigned number and took the 10 instead (who could have faced his ego even at that age), by 1986 nobody in Argentina remembered how ridiculous the system was and let the players wear what was available. As a side note: In 2006 FIFA established the number 1 must be used by a goalkeeper.
In Italy's Serie A they implemented a system in the early 90's where starters had to wear numbers from 1 to 11, so it was ridiculous to see a back-up player taking the number of the regular player for only one match when that one was suspended, rested or injured.
Another interesting fact is that Players in the first World Cup did not wear numbers.
I also hate how some German teams (like Bayern Munich) placed the team name on top of the number and the player’s name on the bottom. It is taken one thing that has been proven to be right and making it wrong.

BALLACK KEEPS CAPTAINCY ROLE
Michael Ballack will remain as Germany captain after holding clear-the-air talks with coach Joachim Low.
The pair met for talks in in Frankfurt on Thursday night in the wake of comments made by the 32-year-old midfielder in a recent newspaper interview.
Low said in a statement on Friday: "I am delighted that an excellent national team player who has played a major part in our success over the last few years is still available for selection and will continue to help us in achieving the goals we have set on the way to the 2010 World Cup.
"Michael Ballack remains my captain."
Ballack issued an apology to Low last Saturday in which he admitted criticising the coach's treatment of Torsten Frings and Kevin Kuranyi had been a mistake.
And the issues appear to have now been settled following Thursday's meeting in the German Football Association (DFB) headquarters.
"It was important that we were very open with this discussion," added Low.

Hi emode, I try to keep you uptodate. ;)
Well I need to change my mind. This "Asia tour" isn't that good, but just because of the date!
What's the point in testing, if you will use ~10 new players in the next real match?
Now a list of players, who will not play these friendlies:
Ballack (Chelsea plays FA Cup final)
Adler
Helmes
Kießling
Rolfes
Wiese
Mertesacker
Frings
Fritz
All play in the DFB-Pokal (German FA Cup) final
Neuer
Özil
Marin
Beck
Tasci
All prepare for the U-21 EURO
Klose and Arne Friedrich aren't sure yet, because of their injuries.
So Enke is our only real keeper (and even he can miss out, if Hannover would fall to rank 16 till the end of the season -> relegation matches) and our only strikers could be Gomez and Podolski.
I don't get it, why the DFB couldn't use the official FIFA dates for national team matches. It would be just a few days later, but we could have used nearly all of our players.
So our line-up in the best case could be:
- - - - - - - - - Enke - - - - - - -
Hinkel - Friedrich - Westermann - Lahm
- - - - - Jones - - Hitzlsperger - -
Schweinsteiger - - - - - - - - Jansen
- - - Klose/Podolski - - Gomez - - -
We can't use many young players because of the U-21 EURO, but probably we will see players like Schäfer, Gentner, Riether (Wolfsburg).
I hope the matches against China and UAE will still be a good preparation for the matches against Azerbaijan (we never played them). Probably I rate them too high, but Germany absolutely need these 6 points or else a draw in Russia might not be enough (if they win their next 3 games, but two are away games vs Wales and Finland so I doubt that).

We didn't play that good, but should still have won with 1 or 2 more goals. I don't know where you can find highlights, maybe on DFB.de or UEFA.com. It was broadcasted on Eurosport, so perhaps someone recorded and uploaded it.
Next games will be decisive, but England and the Netherlands are much better than Turkey. But at least we should secure our spot for the next U18 world cup (the first three of each group qualify).

Lusankya and BavarianRed, tell me what you think.......who should make the German attacking duo??
Poldi is on a huge rise and last couple of games he was one of Bayern's best players. Today, he scored and also assisted.
Gomez scored 4 goals today against the #1 team and is top scorer with Grafite with 23 goals!!
Helmes is 4th top scorer with 19 goals.
Klose is still out there too..
I think we should give the young ones a chance and IMO, I think Gomez fixed himself and has much more potential than the woeful display he showed us on Euro 2008. I think since they're both young 23 year old......Poldi-Gomez would be a great duo.

I don't understand the format though. Will the top 2 of each group go on to the SF? I can't seem to find it anywhere :dontcare:

Ozil in the future....definately. He oozes class in Bremen. Hamit.....maybe. Not too sure who plays right midfielder in Germany, but from what I've seen from Hamit.....he would have a decent chance.
Salihovic would make left midfielder and Dzeko striker. Not too sure about playmaker, but I think Misimovic can get that position too considering Ballack is getting old and their second best playmaker is Trochowski and he did nowhere near what Misimovic did so far this season.

Dzeko raped Bayern and everyone else.
Dzeko also scored a goal on Stuttgart so who gives a shit?
Misimovic wasn't raped because he was subbed off and couldn't play so that's why Stuttgart won in the first place.......team crumbled when Misimovic was injured :smoking:.
Little bitch Grafite couldn't score when Dzeko was giving him perfect balls and one tap in chance for Grafite that he shot wide.
Dzeko is miles ahead of Poldi...better than the aging Klose....and probably tied with Gomez. Ibisevic is better than Poldi and probably tied with Klose. I think Dzeko, Ibisevic, Poldi, Klose, and Gomez are all about tied......with Dzeko and Gomez going to be better in the future.

Well heres from uefa, But your right the first two go through, the 3rd seed has to face another 3rd seed to decide who goes to the european world cup or something like that, not too sure..
The UEFA European Under-17 Championship consists of three distinct stages; the qualifying round, the Elite round and the final round. The qualifying round, played in autumn, is made up of 13 groups of four teams playing in one-venue mini-tournaments. The top two from each progress alongside the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top pair in their group. In the Elite round, played in early spring, those 28 qualifiers compete in seven mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners then join the hosts in the finals in early May, and are split into two groups of four, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals and ultimately the final.
weird formation if you ask me ;)

I don't know, especially as there is no need to discuss this topic, because he won't play for Germany.
What about Tasçı and Özil? Are they going to be regulars for Germany?
We still don't know which player will occupy the spot as second defender besides Mertesacker. Tasci has good chances to become the one as I don't see many other players. His only competition would be Westermann but his position isn't really clear, he sometimes plays as a striker or midfielder in Schalke. So Tasci would be my choice, especially as he gets more and more experienced and so he will avoid making some unforced errors like he still do sometimes.
Özil will play the U-21 EURO in June, and all our best players which are still eligible to do so as well. This tournament has a high priority so Özil won't play during the Asia tour (he couldn't do this anyway, because Bremen plays the DFB Cup final).
After this we will see him maybe already in the qualifiers vs Azerbaijan, we have high hopes that Özil will become a key player in our midfield. But he will have competition. As Marin, Schweinsteiger and Trochowski all play quite similiar positions (none of them plays DM, so there are only 3 positions left in midfield at max.).

Netherlands - Switzerland
Germany - Italy
I don't know if we should be happy with Switzerland, they have gotten some excellent results and lead their group, on top of Italy, Spain and France
These are the results they had:
France 1-1 Switzerland
Italy 1-3 Switzerland
Switzerland 0-0 Spain
I do hope the Netherlands and Germany go through to the final so we can do a reiteration of last game and hopefully we do win this time ;)

AFC: Iran, Japan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates
CAF: Nigeria (hosts), Algeria, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Niger
CONCACAF: Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, United States
CONMEBOL: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay
OFC: New Zealand

Record-breaking crowd ready to witness U17 final
On Tuesday Germany beat the Netherlands 2-0 but the result satisfied both teams as they each qualified from the UEFA European Under-17 Championship group stage. There can be only one winner when the nations are matched again in Monday's final at 11.00CET at a sold-out Stadion Magdeburg.
Precedents
Hosts Germany hope to match the feat of France, who were the most recent hosts to triumph in 2004 and also the last U17 champions with a perfect five victories, culminating in a final watched by the current competition record crowd of 13,000 in Chateauroux, a mark that will be broken by around 10,000 on Monday. But the Netherlands had much of the play when losing to Germany in Jena, and home coach Marco Pezzaiuoli is expecting another tough game.
Dutch ability
"They are a typical Dutch team," Pezzaiuoli said. "They play 4-3-3 with very technical football. They try to keep possession, the same as Spain. They have a good striker and we need to work hard in defence and take our chances up front. The Netherlands are highly motivated after losing the group game. But one thing is important, we need to be proud of the first game, we won 2-0 and we have enough strength left to win the final."
Confidence
Netherlands coach Albert Stuivenberg, who like Pezzaiuoli expects to have a full squad available, takes comfort from his side's showing against Germany. "It was a group game and we know they were without four players, but still the match gave us confidence," he said. "We know we can create chances against Germany but they are a very strong side, very fit. It is a different game with a full stadium and the tension of the final though I'm confident the players can handle that."
Nerves
Most inside the stadium will be behind Germany, and Pezzaiuoli is hoping his side have become accustomed to the expectations of the large home support. "In the first game against Turkey they were a bit nervous early on, the same against England, the crowd was 8,500," he said. "On Monday morning there will be 23,000 people in the stadium, a new situation for the players but I hope they can keep their minds on football."
Development
Germany proved their stamina in scoring two late goals to beat Italy 2-0 in the semi-finals, while earlier on Friday the Netherlands clung on in a 2-1 defeat of Switzerland, not for the first time in this fortnight showing a steely edge. "There has been a development in the team," Stuivenberg said. "When you have success something grows. At the beginning I did not know this team had these qualities."
Löw congratulations
If the Netherlands succeed, they would be the first Dutch side to win a European youth title having been runners-up in this competition four years ago, while Germany – in their first U17 final – have been congratulated by a man who worked with Pezzaiuoli a decade ago at Karlsruher SC, Joachim Löw. "He sent a message, he congratulated us on playing well, and said we presented Germany very well and he's very happy," Pezzaiuoli revealed.
---------------------------------------------------
Even though this game will be on at 5:00 am where i live, Ill still get up some how and watch this game and hopefully Germany become U-17 European champions :D, I think with the crowd behind us we will take this game 3-1 :smoking:

Germany secure maiden U17 crown
Germany won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship for the first time after defeating the Netherlands 2-1 through substitute Florian Trinks's extra-time free-kick in front of a competition record 24,000 crowd at the Stadion Magdeburg.
Trinks winner
The tournament hosts had to come from behind but were deserved winners. Luc Castaignos had opened the scoring with an emphatic early strike, but Germany – who had beaten the Netherlands 2-0 in the group stage – were on level terms by half-time thanks to Lennart Thy's close-range header. Germany poured forward after the break, but could not force a winner in normal time. However, with penalties looming, Trinks struck a magnificent free-kick into the top corner to hand Germany the title.
Early shock
Both coaches named unchanged lineups from the semi-finals but, as had been the case in a number of their games, Germany started nervously and the early dominance of the Netherlands paid off in the eighth minute. Shabir Isoufi drove down the right channel and slipped in fellow Feyenoord forward Castaignos whose first-time effort whistled in at Marc-André ter Stegen's near post. Seeing the tournament hosts fall behind stunned the large crowd but Germany responded well. Kevin Scheidhauer fired wide after being released by Matthias Zimmermann and then Mario Götze shot over when well placed.
Dead-ball danger
Dynamic play from the Netherlands' forward line was still causing Germany's defence a headache, though, and in the 22nd minute, Castaignos sped clear and beat Ter Stegen again only for his shot to come back off the post. With the majority of the noisy crowd behind them, Germany were beginning to dictate the pace and looked especially dangerous at set-pieces. It was from one of these, in the 34th minute, that they equalised. Christopher Buchtmann's deep free-kick was headed against the bar by Scheidhauer and Thy was on hand to nod in the rebound. The goalscorer then nearly added a second only to be brilliantly denied by Patrick ter Mate following another dead-ball delivery as Germany finished the half with a flourish.
Germany pressure
Germany started the second period on the front foot as Scheidhauer turned Mats van Huijgevoort and poked through for Götze whose shot was blocked by the solid Ter Mate. The hosts were looking increasingly menacing and a succession of corners had the Jong Oranje scrambling to clear. The lively Götze then narrowly shot over from Bienvenue Basala-Mazana's cross as the pressure mounted on the Netherlands.
Trinks intervention
Götze forced Ter Mate to spill a cross and Thy just failed to reach Trinks's centre, but as they flooded men forward, Germany were nearly caught on the counterattack, substitute striker Rangelo Janga spurning two gilt-edged opportunities. The decider moved into extra time, with Germany again looking the more likely to break the deadlock and so it proved as Götze won a free-kick with three minutes remaining which Trinks fired into the top corner to cue huge celebrations in Magdeburg.

Ever since Sammer took charge in our youth department, you can see the success (well, the improvement of our youth development programs began already began after the failure during the EURO 2000). First U-17 wc third, providing the best player. Then U-19 EURO champion, now U-17 EURO champion.

As at any UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals, the 2009 edition in Germany which finished on Monday showcased a glut of talented players set to follow in the footsteps of recent tournament alumni like Wayne Rooney, Cesc Fàbregas and Bojan Krkić. uefa.com's reporting team over the last fortnight look at ten players from across the eight competing nations who made their mark.
http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/photo/competitions/under17/83/09/79/830979_mediumsquare.jpg
Patrick ter Mate (Netherlands)
Not the tallest goalkeeper in the finals, Vitesse/AGOVV academy custodian Ter Mate made up for that with positioning, bravery and shot-stopping ability. The Netherlands had to hold out late on in their games against England, Turkey and Switzerland and Ter Mate ensured they did just that before a magnificent display in the final despite the 2-1 loss to Germany. Italy's Mattia Perin probably gave the individual goalkeeping performance of the finals in the 0-0 draw with Spain.
Janick Kamber (Switzerland)
Switzerland had several impressive performers including holding player Kofi Nimeley and left midfielder Granit Xhaka, but it was FC Basel 1893 left-back Kamber who really caught the eye. Singled out by coach Dany Ryer after the 3-1 victory against Italy that ultimately won them Group B, Kamber was assured in defence and a threat going forward, especially when he was promoted to left midfield, and his two goals were beaten by only two players in the finals.
Marc Muniesa (Spain)
Much was made of the fact that defending champions Spain, despite the best efforts of midfielder Koke and striker Borja, did not score a goal during the tournament, but they did not concede a one either and that has a lot to do with the performances of centre-back Muniesa. The FC Barcelona youth team member - who already competes with players two years older than him - does not just resemble Carles Puyol in looks, displaying a calm presence in the heart of the defence. Left-footed and strong in the air, Spain coach Ginés Meléndez made a point of highlighting his contribution after he returned from a ten month injury lay-off.
Dennis Appiah (France)
Paired with captain Darnel Situ, Dennis Appiah cemented a defence which only conceded three goals, none from open play. The AS Monaco FC player may be small but has great timing in the tackle and an ability to launch attacks with precise distribution, and can also operate in midfield.
Marco Fossati (Italy)
Along with captain Alessandro De Vitis and 16-year-old Lorenzo Crisetig, FC Internazionale Milano's Fossati shone in a solid Italy midfield. Comfortable with both feet, Fossati was the fulcrum of all the Azzurrini's best play. He was the only player born in 1992 to start the the prestigious Campionato Allievi Nazionali final last year, alongside fellow Inter player and UEFA Champions League rising star Davide Santon.
Deniz Herber (Turkey)
The two stars of the Turkey squad, Gökhan Töre and Muhammet Demir, had frustrating tournaments with the former being sent off against Germany and the latter not at his best after recovering from a long-term knee injury. Deniz's displays in the thick of the action were to be admired as he won possession well and used it effectively. Based in Germany at FC St. Pauli, the player looked very comfortable at this level and was instrumental in Turkey's 1-0 win against England which secured his nation a FIFA U-17 World Cup spot.
Christopher Buchtmann (Germany)
Why did Liverpool FC sign this left-winger (who can also play at full-back) a year ago? Watching him in the finals, it was obvious. He scored in the opening 3-1 win against Turkey and also set up a goal in that match as well as three in the 4-0 defeat of England and the first in the 2-0 semi-final victory over Italy. His free-kick also led to the equaliser in the final. Buchtmann has plenty of skill, can switch flanks and does not shirk defensive duties.
Jack Wilshere (England)
England promised more than they delivered in the finals but Arsenal FC forward Wilshere bolstered his reputation, giving the Netherlands a torrid time in the opening game which his side were unfortunate to only draw 1-1. When he was on the ball, anything could happen, especially when he was linking with club-mate Luke Freeman or tall midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Lennart Thy (Germany)
Germany's three-man forward line of the big Kevin Scheidhauer, creative Mario Götze and menacing Thy was formidable, with final free-kick hero Florian Trinks in reserve. Thy especially performed impressively since it took two weeks of intensive treatment on a groin injury before the finals to get him fit, but the bustling and talented Werder Bremen striker looked to be in top shape and shared the top scorers' prize with three goals, the last the equaliser in the final.
Luc Castaignos (Netherlands)
The joint-finals top scorer could have had more than the three goals he did end up with, hitting the woodwork against Turkey and in both the group game and final with Germany. His height, his pace, his strength and finishing ability marked him out as an outstanding striker and he was blessed by having as his suppliers his Feyenoord team-mate, right-winger Shabir Isoufi, and Arsenal playmaker Oguzhan Özyakup. Isoufi teed up his opener in the final while Özyakup set Castaignos up to rattle the post.

I've heard some stuff about Castaignos before, I think he's a really talented player :) I wonder what will have become of him in a couple of years time. Same goes for the other talents mentioned by the way, there's always some of them that make it to the top, I'm curious to see who it will be.

Captaincy for FCB two
Poldi saves German blushes in China

Philipp Lahm captained a Germany side shorn of a host of first-choice players as the Euro 2008 runners-up narrowly averted an embarrassing defeat in the first friendly of their two-game tour of Asia. In a match played in front of a 25,000 crowd in Shanghai on Friday, coach Joachim Löw’s patched-up team drew 1-1 with China, ranked 97th in the world game.
Cologne-bound FCB man Lukas Podolski took his total for his country to 33 goals with an eighth-minute equaliser after Hao Junmin had opened for the home team three minutes earlier. Future Munich striker Mario Gomez’ goal drought on the international stage continued: the Stuttgart man has now gone 15 Germany games and 795 minutes without scoring.
Experienced Schweini
“It’s not a problem. I gave it my best shot, but it wasn’t to be. It’ll happen again soon,” said the 23-year-old, who finished third in the Bundesliga scoring charts last term with 24 goals. On Saturday, the Germany squad flies to Dubai, where they will attempt to round off the season in a little more style against the United Arab Emirates, like China hardly a power in the global game.
Lahm, who led out his national side for the first time in his 56th appearance, will hand the armband to Bastian Schweinsteiger for the Dubai clash. With 66 caps, Schweini rates as the most experienced player in the rump squad.
For the future
“Philipp and Bastian are key members of the team, and have taken on increasing responsibility of late. That’s why we’ve decided each will captain the side once on this tour,” Löw explained. Official skipper Michael Ballack and his deputy Miroslav Klose are both absent from the trip.
Both the Munich men selected for the armband this week have previous experience of captaining the three-time World Cup winners. Lahm took the armband from Leverkusen star Bernd Schneider in stoppage time at the end of a 2-1 victory over England on 22 August 2007. Schweinsteiger took over the duties from Klose during a 2-0 win against Belgium in Nuremberg on 20 August 2008.

We drew 1-1 verse China with half of our squad out on duty, international friendlies, Cup games etc... we should of won this game because we had many chances but we just werent able to finish, Podolski's goal was well struck he should of had a couple of more but he was unlucky..
I don't get this reporter, even if Germany lost to China, how would that be an embarrassing lost? its only a damn friendly to prepare for the upcomming world cup qualifier game. Our defense was really bad because non of our key players were playing and it made our defense really weak so i excepted China to score eventually and they did it in the first 5 minutes..

Full steam ahead in the sauna
http://www.bundesliga.de/media/images/04_bildergalerien/dfb-team/nati_dubai_4.jpg
Temperatures of over 40 degrees centigrade notwithstanding, Joachim Löw is showing no mercy at the end of a hard season.
"I expect the players to mobilise all their strength once more. We'll have to give it everything we can", the Germany coach said ahead of Tuesday's game against United Arab Emirates in Dubai.
Hot encounter
Overcoming the extreme temperature and humidity may well prove to be he team's greatest challenge in the Al-Maktoum Stadium. Löw arranged for the final training session to start at 21:30 local time, in order to help the squad acclimatize to the conditions.
"The first thing that came into my head was, My God, how can you survive 90 minutes here", stand-in captain Bastian Schweinsteiger admitted, while Thomas Hitzlsperger said simply, "We'll have to deal with it. We've no choice."
In the wake of the dour 1-1 draw with China in Shanghai, the EURO 2008 runners-up are looking to end the season on a more inspiring note. Löw says the team will have to do "a lot of things better", under difficult conditions, to achieve the victory they aspire to.
Neuer between the posts
Schalke 04's Manuel Neuer will make his debut in goal for Germany against the hosts, who are currently ranked 120th in the world. "Despite his youth he has an air of maturity, on and off the pitch. He knows what he wants and he's ambitious", Löw said of the 23-year-old Royal Blues keeper.
There will also be starting slots for Heiko Westermann and Andreas Hinkel as the coach returns to a 4-4-2 formation, with Lukas Podolski set to join Mario Gomez up front. For all his scintillating form in the Bundesliga, Gomez has now gone 795 minutes without scoring for Germany, and cut a lonely figure up front in Shanghai.
Schweinsteiger good to go
Bastian Schweinsteiger is match-fit despite a slight calf problem and will resume the mantle of captain in the absence of Michael Ballack.
With training starting late to minimise the players' exposure to the heat, the squad were able to take part in a reception organised by the German FA (DFB) and the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH on Monday.
Late kick-off
The match is scheduled to kick off at 10 in the evening, but even then the temperature is expected to be over 35 degrees.
Löw, who announced on Saturday that a change of strategy was in the offing for the remaining World Cup qualifiers, intends to bring on substitutes early, with Christian Träsch and Tobias Weis earmarked to make their first appearances for the national side alongside Neuer.
As for the 1-1 draw with China, "That's history. We have to do better in Dubai", according to Podolski, whose goal spared a weakened German side's blushes in Shanghai.
Line-up as expected:
Neuer - Hinkel, Friedrich, Westermann, Lahm - Schweinsteiger, Gentner, Hitzlsperger, Trochowski - Gomez, Podolski
-----------------------------------------------------------
Tomorrow will be Neuer's first debut for Germany, I hope he keeps a clean tomorrow and gets off to a great for his first game for us ;) I just hope the players can handle theses kinds of tempartures because they say its suppose to be about 40 degrees when there playing :boo:
I can we will walk out with a nice 3-0 win tomorrow :smoking:

Rankings don't mean anything when it comes time for world cup games, does it? Even if Germany were ranked 100th place most countries would underestimate until they see that Germany isn't a team to take lightly.. ;) I really doubt germany takes these friendlies seriously as its just warm up games for the upcoming qualifier that we have in August. I dont know if you should be ahead or not, These Rankings are something so stupid that i dont even bother checking them, just look at what Turkey did in Euro 2008 and than tell me if Rankings mean a thing? ;)
I know we lost a lot of points due to the draw against China, but we had most of our players playing in cup games like The fa cup, DFB Pokal, and plus klose and a couple of other players chose to stay with bayern and play the friendlies they had instead of making the trip with the NT for the games against China and UAE.
You wonder why Netherlands-Germany never happen? because of what happened last time was a complete disaster as the fans behavior was so bad that it wasn't even a football match anymore, and plus the history between germany and netherlands is pretty bad so we probably wont face each other for a while unless a friendly is arranged by the coaches but i doubt it ;)

Yeah I know, I was just joking ;) I think most teams in the top 10 are pretty equal, anyone could beat anyone.. so it's an accurate ranking in that sense, but e.g. the USA is in 14th place (I think), now that's stupid  But I was saying this because in the previous ranking we were only 3 points behind Germany and some people were saying: that's typical, always one step behind the Germans :p So I just had to post this
I doubt the coaches will want a Germany - Netherlands friendly, I don't think the game would be "friendly" either lol, but in a way that's a good thing because encounters like this are too special for "just" a friendly game imo :) But I'd like to face you in the final stages of the World Cup, that would be a great game for sure ;)

Gomez ends goal drought in style
http://www.bundesliga.de/media/images/02_international/dfb-team/88157203_333.jpg
Mario Gomez has ended his goal drought in style, scoring four goals past hosts United Arabian Emirates as the German national team ended its season on a high.
The VfB Stuttgart striker, who will join FC Bayern München this summer, found the back of the net after 829 minutes (and 15 games) without a strike for Germany as the DFB team cruised to a 7-2 victory in Dubai.
First Gomez goal after 35 minutes
The win marked the end of the Asia tour and the end of the season for the German national team, four days after a 1-1 draw with China.
Gomez scored his first after 35 minutes in front of 7,000 fans in the Al Maktoum stadium and added three more in the added time of both halves and the 48th minute.
Westermann and Trochowski on target
Schalke's Heiko Westermann (29) and Hamburg's Piotr Trochowski (39) also found the back of the net for Germany, and Fares Juma put through his own net after 52 minutes.
The DFB team could have won by a higher margin, but Lukas Podolski (9), Bastian Schweinsteiger (66) - who captained Germany for the very first time -- and Trochowski (85) all hit the woodwork.
Ismail Salem (53) and Nawaf Mubarak (73) scored two consolation goals for the United Arabian Emirates.
Neuer debut
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer won his first cap, while Tobias Weis and Christian Träsch also made their debut after the break.
Germany will play their first match of the new season against Azerbaijan in Baku on August 12th.
----------------------------------------------------------------
What a game by Mario Gomez, he has ended his long wait for a goal for Germany after 829 minutes and 15 games :smoking:
Hopefully this will be a new start for Gomez and he will hopefully start scoring in the qualifying games ;)
Manuel Neuer played pretty well in net, he made a number of good saves and was solid throughout the whole game. He can only get better ever game :smoking:
