There can be no game of football without a ball. And the better the ball, the better the game. (http://www.fifa.com/en/news/index/0,1464,9613,00.html?articleid=9613)

http://www.fifa.com/images/letter/blk/F.gifootball, the world's most popular game, is played with the most simple piece of equipment - a round ball.

That is to say, it may appear to be simple but in fact the modern ball is a sophisticated jig-saw of pieces of synthetic leather material, carefully designed and stitched together to ensure the perfect sphere.

man what is this? as long as you've got a ball you can play you don't need some 100 dollar ball to play with everytime you go out. just stop this thread it's just a waste

It's sort of interesting how much difference a decent ball can make in a game though. Durring high-school matches, they usualy have us playing with prett decent soccerballs, Like the worst ball we've used was a Brine international, and that's a pretty decent ball. When I play on my indoor team, which is basicly just a few of my friends and I, who signed up to play in a under 19 open league, or evan my towns team, we get some pretty random soccer balls, some of the balls are just terrible, you try to shoot with them, and you have no control over the shot, or they bounce odd, and when you touch them they can go where ever. Many of the problems I have just defined can be caused by the way the ball displaces weight on your foot. If the ball isn't internally balanced, like the bladder being in perfect equilibrium with its self all the way around the ball, then you have an unbalanced weight displacment, this can lead to an unaccurate shot, and difficulty in contriling. Some soccer balls, such as last seasons MLS ball, incorporate a custom design to help improve the balls flight. If you look at the puma MLS match ball, it will have little dimples in it, like a golf ball. These little dimples create a higher air pressure under neath the ball. With a nice build up of air pressure underneath the soccer ball, it glides through the air. We used one of the MLS match balls last summer, and you can put that ball anywhere you want.
A ball such as the puma MLS match ball, and the Nike Total 90 Aerow will fly what ever way you decide you want it to go because the weight is perfect, and the material it's made out of is made with the same strength and resistance all the way around the ball, so one spot on the ball wont be harder than the other. And they will give you the same performance in the rain too, becase if a ball starts absorbing water the weight on the ball will be thrown off again. There's a reason why the professional soccer leagues only use these expensive balls. ;)

Yeah, I would agree that you really can tell when your playing with a higher level ball. I just bought one of the new Nike Total 90 Aerow's because my brother accidentaly kicked mine in the river at my grandma's house, (not funny) and it is so nice. It is by far the best ball I have ever played with. It just feels like when your juggling and shooting, it connects with your foot so much better and seems to rocket off of it when you shoot. Also, the higher quality balls last longer. They have better stitching and stuff and therefore can go through a lot more.

Yeah, the Aerow is an amazing ball, if you put spin on it, it really takes off, I love it. A lot of the producers are incorporating heat welded seems now too, instead of stitching. It makes the ball last longer, and again, helps the balance and shape of the ball.

Yeah, I beileve that is one of the balls that used the technology. I think Brine* brand balls are using it more than any other company, I've only read a little bit about it.

Thank you.
This was an informational post. There is a reason "FIFA Approved" balls command a higher price.

It's true that "real" players should be able to play with any ball. I for one would rather play with a $30 or greater ball than a $5 ball.

In my opinion, the premium match balls dont really last any longer. If anything, I think they might be less durable. I think that most of them, such as my adidas champions league ball, have a layer of foam underneath the outer skin and if it gets scratched deep enough it will be like a shitty nerf ball with foam shit coming out.

they are really nice to play with though

Unless you're using the ball on pavement, I don't think scratching a premium matchball is going to be a problem, they are made to withstand, so you could play on the pitch as long as you wanted to with it.

ive had a fifa WC2002 i forgot wat their name was. it was my longest lasting ball but it only lasted 4 months. i played it on grass most of the time, n sumtimes on hardground (not pavement) so i kinda prefer cheap balls
