No I have nothing against you. Just do not post anything that is not related to soccer and if you have to, do not make it in provoking and insulting ways. I told you that "he started it" wont cut it. If you think someone has done you wrong, just tell ME and I will take care of it. Do not do your own justice. You are welcome to the Italian forum as you seem to be a good poster when you want to.

Marco Amelia, Christian Abbiati and Massimo Oddo are the new names for Italy’s friendlies against Holland and the Ivory Coast.

Livorno goalkeeper Amelia (pictured) receives his first senior Azzurri call-up after a career in the Under-21 squad and is the only debutant in Marcello Lippi’s latest line-up.

Juventus shot-stopper Abbiati and Lazio full-back Oddo make their returns to the international set-up after a long period outside the fold.

Alessandro Del Piero maintains his place despite struggling to find space at Juventus, while Christian Vieri is also included.

Italy will face Marco van Basten’s Holland in Amsterdam on Saturday evening and take on the Ivory Coast in Geneva on Wednesday.

Italy squad:

Gk: Abbiati (Juventus), Amelia (Livorno), Peruzzi (Lazio)

D: Barzagli (Palermo), Cannavaro (Juventus), Grosso (Palermo), Materazzi (Inter), Nesta (Milan), Oddo (Lazio), Zaccardo (Palermo), Zambrotta (Juventus)

M: Barone (Palermo), Camoranesi (Juventus), De Rossi (Roma), Diana (Sampdoria), Gattuso (Milan), Pirlo (Milan)

F: Totti (Roma), Del Piero (Juventus), Gilardino (Milan), Iaquinta (Udinese), Toni (Fiorentina), Vieri (Milan)

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has asked Serie A coaches to grant him extra time with his players before next year's World Cup finals. "I'd like it if there was the possibility to organise at least a couple of training sessions," Lippi told a meeting of Serie A coaches near Florence on Monday.

"I've got two dates in mind -- the first week of January when, after the Christmas break, there aren't any European fixtures, and then the first week of May," said Lippi.

He added that three friendly matches were insufficient to prepare for the finals in Germany.

Lippi said there were also other dates he would like to use, including midweek periods when the Italian Cup semi-finals and two-legged final are scheduled.

Italy have a friendly match against the Netherlands on Saturday in Amsterdam before facing Ivory Coast in Geneva on Wednesday.

The Italy coach said his plan envisaged a Tuesday and Wednesday training session at Italy's Coverciano base in Tuscany but that it was dependent on the agreement of club coaches.

Lippi should be granted his wish. This team has talent, and needs the time together to gel as a unit and produce some chemistry.

The test vs The Dutch will be a good one, but I'd like to add that Holland has steamrolled through their group while Italy has won as necessary. I think that in most people's minds that makes Italy the underdog. I like it when Italy is considered the underdog :D

Roma ace Francesco Totti has withdrawn from the Italian national squad after picking up an injury in training.

Totti is the second player to leave Coverciano this week after goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi had to quit the camp on Wednesday with a calf strain.

The absence of the Roma captain comes as a blow to Coach Marcello Lippi, who is preparing his side to play two international friendly matches against Holland and the Ivory Coast next week.

The No 10 strained a muscle while running with the Azzurri and will now return home to recuperate with his wife and his son, Christian, who is only a few days old.

Lippi has fielded three up front in recent matches and the loss of Totti would require the Viareggio-based tactician to switch systems.

The former Juventus maestro admitted last month that his preferred 4-3-1-2 formation could change to a 4-4-2 in the absence of the Giallorossi symbol.

Italy will also be sporting a new kit in the Amsterdam arena on Saturday. The away shirt is in traditional white but comes complete with a redesigned FIGC (Italian FA) logo.

Marcello Lippi has urged caution ahead of Italy’s match with the Ivory Coast this evening. "I have been struck by their natural ability," he said.

Lippi has been doing his homework on the emerging African nation, nicknamed the Elephants, whom his side face in icy Geneva tonight and the Azzurri boss has clearly been impressed by what he has seen of them.

"The Ivory Coast knocked both Cameroon and Senegal - two of the best sides in Africa in the last 10 years - out of the World Cup qualifiers," he said. "They have 40 odd players spread throughout the best Leagues in Europe."

Citing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as a case in point, Lippi has urged caution ahead of a friendly which bears all the hallmarks of a banana skin match.

"Drogba is an example and a champion," added Lippi. "It is no longer a case of pure physical strength and average technique. I’ve watched them on tape and I was struck by the natural ability with which they play.

"I realise that in people’s minds this match doesn’t mean as much as the Holland test, but for us it means a lot. Unfortunately, after this I won’t see my players until March 1."

Lippi has already announced his line-up for tonight, making six changes from the side that prevailed in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Playing in his trusty 4-3-3 formation, which Lippi says is here for keeps, Cristian Zaccardo, Andrea Barzagli and Marco Materazzi come into a back line in which only Fabio Grosso has kept his place.

Palermo’s Simone Barone and Roma’s Daniele De Rossi get starts in midfield alongside Andrea Pirlo, while Vincenzo Iaquinta is selected next to Alberto Gilardino up front, with Alessandro Del Piero, as in Holland, playing just behind the front two.

Those who played on Saturday but have been rested for this match are: Luca Toni, Alessandro Nesta, Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta, Gennaro Gattuso and Mauro Camoranesi.

Lippi will be hoping his new-look side don’t freeze on the big night - the temperature for tonight’s match, which is live on Bravo at 8pm, is predicted to plummet to as low as -10 degrees centigrade.

Italy probable: Abbiati; Zaccardo, Barzagli, Materazzi, Grosso; Barone, Pirlo, De Rossi; Gilardino, Iaquinta, Del Piero

Dear USA soccer fan, Italy played with 2 regulars and last week it was good enough for you and some other Dutch fans to proclaim that Holland playing without 2 of theirs was excuse enough to justify their loss. Ivory Coast's first goal was offsides, but who cares, it was a friendly and Drogba blasted it home. Aimo Diana scored the winner a few minutes before the end but the IC keeper pulled it out of the net...yes the whole ball crossed...again who cares...friendly.

IC had hardly any opportunities and scored on the one offside one they had.

I don't get it though. Shit talkers like you always come in here and make bigger deals than necessary out of games like this, but you guys ignore the ones where other big nationals lose, like of course the Dutch, or how Portugal tied N. Ireland, or even when Brazil lose. Guys, these are meaningless, and nothing counts till the cup next year. Just ask the English about that given their 5-0 drubbing of Germany in 2001, when less than one year later Germany was in the final and England was not.

USAistheshow, even your name sounds as stupid as your comments.

Italy is the favorite against a team like the Ivory Coast playing with or without their normal starters. And they should also be able to win with or without the ref. The fact is you tied when you should have won.

Yeah, and what's your point.

And they should also be able to win with or without the ref. The fact is you tied when you should have won.

LOL... man I could tear apart this piece of illogical crap with such ease, but I will spare you the wrath for the time being. Here's a hint, neither have anything to do with the other. How you can sit there and negate the duty of a ref or linesman is beyond me, and for the record I AM NOT BLAMING THE REF, mistakes happen, and you know what? Who gives a flying ***k!! Just like I said when the whiners were complaining that RVN didn't play for Holland = IT'S ONLY A FRIENDLY= Meaningless.

The difference is that Lippi wanted a good result vs the Dutch so he used his best available lineup, and he was clearly not interested in the same vs Ivory Coast so he used the reserves. Guess why? To give them experience and playing time my friend. That's what you do in friendlies.

Lippi knew that the challenge vs the Dutch was going to be more of what can be expected in the cup, so he wanted to see what his best could do.

That said, in a percect world the game ends 2-0 For Italy, but it's not a perfect world, and we don't care at this point in time. I hope it goes a long way to promoting football in Africa with the IC getting such a great result :D

and yet you, an anti-Brazilian, (or an anti-anti-Italy for that matter  ) use a name like "soccerates"...

Ad hominem logic = false logic.

My name has nothing to do with the quality of my arguments, but it will explain to you why my arguments are not as fallible as yours.

Also I'm not Anti-Brazilian, I'm anti-shit talk, of which you only do. Hence, you are a moron.

Italy will play friendlies against Switzerland and the Ukraine in preparation for the 2006 World Cup Finals.

The Italian Football Federation confirmed the games today on the eve of the Germany friendly at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Azzurri will face the Swiss in Geneva on May 31, before taking on the Ukraine – who they will also come up against in the European Championship qualifiers – on June 2.

No doubt, Donadoni will field a completely experimental squad, so he can test out quality players for the future Azzurri squad.

Hopefully we'll bag in a nice victory and a confidence booster.
