Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Everton to sign Danish international midfielder Thomas Gravesen, Spanish media said on Thursday. Radio Marca said Everton had accepted 3 million euros for the 28-year-old whose contract with the premier league club finishes at the end of the season.
I think this is an excellent signing for Real! IMO, I think Gravesen is one of the best Danes I've seen... :ronaldo:

if this happen then then problem in midfielf is solved i would say. Gravesen is a very tough and hard-working DM plus he can play the ball well.

Exactly... He's contributed so much for Everton... I bet he'd make a difference in Real's midfield... :D

Madrid confirm Gravesen deal
Friday, 14 January 2005
Real Madrid CF have signed Danish international Thomas Gravesen on a three-and-a-half year contract from Everton FC. Madrid agreed a fee of €3.5m for Gravesen, whose contract with Everton was due to expire in the summer.
Personal terms
Gravesen's agent, former Denmark defender John Sivebæk, had settled personal terms with Madrid on Tuesday. However, Madrid then had to negotiate with Everton, who would have preferred to retain the player's services until the summer, and the deal was finally concluded today. Having not played in European competition with Everton, Gravesen will be eligible for Madrid's UEFA Champions League campaign.
No16 shirt
Gravesen, who was unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu this evening, will wear the No16 shirt, the same number he wore at Everton and, according to club president Florentino Pérez, "he is the player that we were missing". In other words, the missing link in the Merengues' midfield. Since Claude Makelele's departure in summer 2003, Madrid have tried Guti and Albert Celades as their midfield pivot but with limited success, and have arguably never replaced Fernando Redondo in that position.
Fine form
Ironically, Gravesen has produced his finest form in an Everton shirt this season having shed his defensive duties and received licence to roam forward as the attacking prong in a three-man central midfield. In 21 Premiership appearances this term Gravesen scored four goals and provided six assists.
International record
Gravesen started his career with his hometown club in Denmark, Vejle BK, before moving to Hamburger SV in Germany and then arriving at Everton in a €3.6m transfer in summer 2000. He has featured for Denmark in three major tournament finals - at UEFA EURO 2000™, the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004™ - and has made 52 appearances for his country, scoring five goals.
Gravesen's deal at Real will be for £1.75 million-a-season over four years, doubling his present salary at Everton.

When I read yor posts, Perez said that Graveson is the missing link in the midfield sicne Makelele's departure... all I have seen from Graveson is attacking midfielder not defensive, maybe Perez is trying to get forwards in the midfield without being criticized...you decide LOL.

No one's exactly praising him just because Real's gonna buy him... :) He did in fact stand out in Everton's matches... He played an important part in bringing Everton up to be with the top few teams earlier this season...

I can't understand this, are you talking to me?
First : I don't want to take the praise as this was posted at uefa.com and I've just quote it
and Second:
"all I have seen from Graveson is attacking midfielder not defensive"
hope Sacchi had watched more him than you. Not bad feelings but i think Gravesen is really away from being an AM and what i've seen from him is strenght, bravery and desire to battle the enemy and take the ball away from his legs. In my opinion this is what a DM must be if he has good technique passing or dribling skills this can be just in his favour.
P.S: the previous post was to show zenden9 that he's not right and we are not just praising him (Gravesen) just because he is in madrid now , if you didn't catched my meaning ;)
I'm glad they signed him. He was the standout player in Everton all season and seasons prior (apart from Rooney). Everytime he comes on as a sub, he lifts his team. He has a brilliant passing ability and kicks the ball a bit like Beckham. I have seen him play week in and week out (as I do all Premiership highlights) and he always impresses me. He scores some good freekicks too.

somehow or another, i dont see him taking free kicks at madrid......
zidane, beckham, figo and others, i remember when beckham moved 2 madrid how there was supposedly going 2 be a battle for who takes the free kicks, but dont get me wrong i think he does take good free kicks, probably more than any other player, unless im mistaking him for carsley who scores from set pieces as well and looks like him........

to be honest i don't think Gravenson was the right choice we should have gotten Vincete or someone heck Manuel Pabolo not him though Solari could out-do him.
New Real Madrid signing Thomas Gravesen has been included in the squad for tonight's match against Real Zaragoza.
Real coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo has named both Gravesen and striker Javier Portillo, who has returned from his loan with Fiorentina, in his line-up.
Yesterday, Luxemburgo hinted Gravesen's arrival could lead to David Beckham moving back onto the wing.
"I must think about Beckham returning to the wing. I have a squad and the important thing is to have all playing to their strengths," said Luxemburgo.
"First it will be necessary to study the tactical part and to consider the position of Gravesen, but right now he is not going to be to starting tomorrow and it is a question that I must decide for the next games."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it's good that they're going to move Beckham on the right, it is there where he excels and when he does play on the right, the team plays better.
