Kezman socred in the FA Cup today, thats number 5 all together for kezman since he came to chelsea! kezman is on his way to soreing 25 this season, YOU ALL WILL SEE!!
Chelsea have beaten far higher-placed sides far more easily at Stamford Bridge this season but goals from Mateja Kezman, Eidur Gudjohnsen and an own-goal were enough to find a way past S****horpe and into the FA Cup fourth round.
It required a fight-back after the League Two side had taken a shock early lead and only a goal five minutes from time made the result safe as an unfamiliar-looking side needed in-form Carlo Cudicini and a post to keep the visitors from finding the net more than once.
Chelsea’s quality and goal power were enough in the end to fulfil the bottom line requirement of a victory and looking at the wider picture, the win was secured with the added bonus of some important legs rested.
It was no shock to see José Mourinho give some of his higher mileage players the day off for the visit of a bottom division club but the surprise was two young defenders making their debuts together — Steven Watt at 19 years-old and Nuno Morais at 23.
There was also a change to the well-established 4-3-3 shape. With neither Duff nor Robben in the starting eleven, a midfield diamond was selected with Eidur Gudjohnsen at the front of it. Newly arrived Jiri Jarosik, with only minimal training behind him in the last month was on the bench.
Morais plays most of his football in midfield or in central defence but he would be asked today to take on the left-back role, he responded with an error-free if understated showing. Steven Watt meanwhile was accompanied in the middle by Alexey Smertin. This risky strategy looked even more so just seven minutes in.
The opening exchanges were gentle sparring but then Matthew Sparrow received the ball on the S****horpe right, turning inside Drogba before knocking the ball in to top scorer Paul Hayes, marked by Smertin.
It was a heavyweight versus middleweight contest; one that ran out in favour of the bigger man as Hayes turned the Russian with ease and cracked the ball through Cudicini’s legs. The Matthew Harding lower tier behind was suddenly a frenzy of claret and blue.
Chelsea were stunned and for the 15 minutes that followed, the unfamiliarity in the team was all too evident as S****horpe spent as much time in our half as we did theirs, forcing three corners to Chelsea ‘s none along the way. With the third corner-kick, centre-back Butler rose and headed dangerously on but Rankine was flagged offside.
Where the Chelsea threat was to come from was hard to spot but then on 25 minutes and in the blink of an eye, the equaliser was in the net.
Gudjohnsen floated a ball in, Drogba headed back and Kezman showed superb poise and balance to volley into the roof the net via a slight deflection. It was his third of the season.
S****horpe responded well, Cudicini at his sharpest to turn round another Butler header but the Chelsea quick passing was beginning to come.
Glen Johnson made a couple of promising surges down the right and on a third advance he assisted Tiago to the edge of the area, only for the Portuguese international to blast his shot wildly over.
On 38 minutes a long pass from Gudjohnsen, who by now was seeing plenty of the ball bounced kindly for Drogba and from 30 yards he did brilliantly to force keeper Musselwhite into a flying save with a curling shot.
Gérémi was the first into the book for a mistimed tackle and a minute later Baraclough advanced from the S****horpe midfield and shot just wide.
Just before the break Drogba and Kezman almost combined successfully again, the earlier scorer this time slicing a cross wide of the post. Chelsea had finished the first-half far stronger than we had begun it but there was still much work to do at both ends.
Mourinho pushed Gudjohnsen forward to make it a three-man attack after the break but the going remained tough until a Tiago pass was collected skilfully by Drogba.
As he burst forwards and drove the ball into the danger area, S****horpe captain Andy Crosby panicked and at full-stretch turned the ball into his own net. Fifty-seven minutes were on the clock and Chelsea were at last ahead.
Gaps were beginning to appear in the visitors defence and on 67 minutes it was time for the third debut of the afternoon, Jiri Jarosik taking his bow in place of Drogba with Ferreira replacing Gérémi at the same time. The Czech international went to the left of midfield with Cole joining the front three.
On 72 minutes S****horpe wasted a great chance to equalise although credit goes to Cudicini once more. A loose Watt clearance, his only real mistake in an otherwise solid debut, started the danger and when Kell beat Smertin in the air, the ball fell perfectly to substitute Taylor 15 yards out. Fortunately the shot was not well hit and the Chelsea keeper was down quick to save.
Cudicini was not so commanding two minutes later when a deep cross evaded him but Butler turned the ball into the side-netting with a centre-back’s finish.
S****horpe still weren’t out of it and on 77 minutes they struck woodwork, Taylor heading Beagrie’s cross against post.
Ten minutes from the end Arjen Robben was unleashed on a tiring defence in place of Kezman and he announced his arrival with one wild shot before making a proper impact soon after.
Plucking the ball out the air with ease, he drove in a shot that Musselwhite saved, the S****horpe keeper also parrying Cole’s follow-up shot. But when the ball fell to a Chelsea player again he could do nothing this time — Gudjohnsen finding the roof of the net.
At last it was time to relax and no sooner had the stadium PA announced Joe Cole Orange Man of the Match than the Chelsea No. 10 headed off on a magical run and pass to Gudjohnsen. Unfortunately he couldn’t work the ball from under his feet and Musselwhite saved, as he did again in injury time to keep out a well-struck Cole shot.
The whistle blew soon after and the S****horpe players rightly received a rousing vote of appreciation from their supporters before heading down the tunnel, many in possession of blue shirts. It is Chelsea however who remain in the next round draw.
