God i can't believe wht happened. The whole game was a nightmare...i'm lost for words and it may take awhile to sink in. It's the worst bayern ever played this season. Bayern just completely lost it. Congratulations to Zenit and hopefully Bayern will learn a lesson from this. It's too sad to see bayern did so badly because they can be so much better than this.... It's extremely dissapointing and it so sad

Winning the German league and Bundelsiga title is not the same as the UEFA Cup or the CL. For some reason bayern always played badly in Europe. It was the same last year too during the CL qualification. They were eliminated during the Quarterfinal too againsts AC Milan. It's really sad and something that really need to be done. It's so dissapointing being so close and denied everytime!!!

It is a lot better than Uefa Cup. But a win this year would have been nice.
Bayern is missing something in their game.
Luca Toni of course is gone. But Klose Miroslav has been dead the last 20 games including Eufa Cup and League Cup games.

Yeah i hope so too for next year bayern will be better :)
Not only bayern missing actions in both Toni and Klose but they were also lacking in defence. Once Zenit scored the 2nd goal bayern kind of lost it. The 2nd. half was just terrible. Well at least we won't be seeing Oliver Kahn as a keeper anymore...he made so much blunders in this game. He's one of the best keeper during his prime but now it really is time for him to go. Too bad he will have terrible memory of this game.

Yeah, considering Bayern's mentality for the past 100 years has always been playing the full 90. This was a very akward game. I remember once when Serbia was up 3-1 against Germany and in the second half they come back to beat us 4-3.
That has always been the German mentality. But Zenit has been playing extremely hard defense the whole tournament.
Did you also know that someone in Russia offered to give players in 450,000 euro if they won.
Some rich Zenit fan from Russia. Haha

Bayern were still in shock at not being in the Champs League this season Emode. Their minds were elsewhere. I expect they assumed they couldn't lose and teams that do that tend to lose. Another point is it's a cup game and it can be difficult to call them especially in the later stages. Doesn't matter how poor a team may be compared to the opposition in a cup game the underdogs raise their game. Look at the CL final for instance. Everyone will assume Utd will win it but a small team like Chelsea will be be lifted by getting to the final against the odds and will probably make a game of it maybe only losing by thee goals ;)

Their minds are not elsewhere ....bayern did take this cup seriously now that they are no longer in the CL this season. But wht happened was bayern came up against the opponents in their fittest form. The Russian championship only started a few weeks ago, Zenit are relatively fresh. Bayern on the other hand have been playing three times a week for months. Zenit were simply in greater shape and bayern did their best to resist their attacks. Well at least bayern already won the Bundesliga league and the German Cup this year. Next year they will be back in the champion league race!! It's not such a bad season after all.
Btw haha u can't compare zenit vs Bayern with Man.Utd vs Chelsea. Chelsea is not exactly the underdog. Wht the heck u talking abt???? :noidea:

thats very right spoken from Timo, it would be a waste of time for him to sit on the bench. But if Valencia will descend up to the second division he will surely leave Valencia.

^ Timo should have stayed at Stuttgart, okay the wages aren't that good but he would have remained one of the key players and stayed as a decent goalkeeper instead of one picking 6 balls out of his net against Barcelona.

Kahn bows out
'There've been so many fantastic moments'
Oliver Kahn spent the weekend in Bad Griesbach, working on his golf handicap. On the way home, he dropped by a small shop in the town of Pocking to purchase a mobile phone. "It made the front page of the next day's Passauer Neue Presse newspaper," the keeper reported with a broad smile. "Hopefully, there won't be as much of that in the next few years. It'll be a lot quieter, and that'll do me good."
Kahn exits Germany's premier football stage on Saturday when he makes his 557th and last Bundesliga appearance at home to Hertha BSC. Only Karl-Heinz Körbel (602) and Manfred Kaltz (581) have played more often in the top flight, but seldom can a player have had such an elevated profile both as a footballer and a personality as Oliver Kahn.
The spirit of Bayern
It all began on 27 November 1987 with the keeper's Bundesliga debut for Karlsruher SC. Since switching to Bayern in the summer of 1994, Kahn has equalled Mehmet Scholl's record of eight German championship triumphs, holds a record number of Cup wins (6), and has winners' medals from the Champions League (2001), the UEFA Cup (1996) and the World Club Cup (2001). He is easily the most successful player in Bundesliga history after taking part in 309 wins and keeping 205 clean sheets.
However, even this potentially unbeatable array of statistics tells only half the story. "Oliver is a major personality, the embodiment of the so-called 'Bayern gene'," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently declared, "he's one of the most important players of the last ten years". Going one step further, Ottmar Hitzfeld feels Kahn is already "a living legend."
The opinion former
"I've made my contribution at Bayern for the last 14 years. I've tried to do the best job I can for all of those 14 years," the keeper reflected. His oft-quoted maxim, "keep going, just keep going" made him a household name. Kahn, undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers of all time, has always been consumed by ambition, obsessed with success, and willing to be judged solely on the basis of his performance. That has made him appear unapproachable to some, "but in my day, football was about hard work, and not yet about enjoyment," he reasoned.
Kahn has never been anything if not outspoken. "I've never disguised my true feelings about anything, regardless of whether it was popular. I wasn't interested in weaselling my way opportunistically through twenty years. I've always tried to form and express an opinion. Sometimes I was wrong, sometimes I was right. I'll admit I was stubborn in a number of tough situations."
The Titan
In 2001, Kahn was Bayern's hero with three penalty saves to seal the Champions League crown in Milan, but just a year later, the 'Titan' became the epitome of tragedy with the fateful blunder which effectively handed Brazil victory over Germany in the World Cup final. "There've been so many fantastic moments, including little things which never became public. Devastating defeats, stunning, euphoric victories," he recalled – before suddenly collapsing into fits of laughter. "Getaaafe, hahaha, Getafe is certainly one of the most amazing."
Kahn's remaining time as a professional footballer covers Saturday's meeting with Berlin, and Munich's promotional tour of Asia. He bows out on the back of his fourth domestic double. "It mattered to me that the last year was a positive one," he acknowledged, "but with hindsight, that's made it one of the most demanding."
The pundit
Kahn is now looking forward "respectfully" to what he describes as "my second life. It's not easy, just walking away from the game and then, who knows, spending six months wandering through the rain forest," he mused, "although I don't intend to disappear from the radar screen completely for a year or two." A newly-announced position as a studio expert for Germany internationals would keep him in contact with "football at the highest level."
Neither will he suddenly turn his back on Bayern's Säbener Strasse HQ and training centre. "I might pop in for a light workout in the weights room. I don't think I'll bother anyone." However, while admitting he himself had contributed to the showbiz aspect of the game, he is hoping to step more fully out of the limelight in that respect, keeping his private life as private as possible.
The club official?
As for the immediate future, "I just want to be in charge of my own daily agenda and get away from the stress." And how long would he be able to keep that up? "At some point, I'll be motivated to try something else and set new targets, and if I am who I think I am, I'll be extremely ambitious about it." Future projects might yet include Bayern. General manager Uli Hoeneß has already pledged to keep his door open to Kahn at any time.
"Thanks Olli – we'll miss you but never forget you," read a banner displayed at the practice ground during Kahn's final public training session at the club. Even the eloquent 38-year-old himself would have been hard-pressed to better that as a summation of the fans' feelings towards one of the German game's all-time greats.
____________________________________________________
Some hated Oliver Kahn and some loved him, but no one can say that he isnt a living legend after having a wonderful career with Bayern, like he says in his stories there were Devastating defeats, stunning, euphoric victories, and everything you can name. Time has surely come for him to Retire no doubt about that but ever bayern fan loved him for what he did for Bayern. The true legend will officially retire on Saturday When he makes his final appearance for FC Bayern against (Hertha BSC.)

hey Ballack . . raised from the dead? ;)
Bayern Munchen forward Lucas Podolski seems to be one of the most serious candidates to replace Adrian Mutu at Fiorentina; the tuscan club could obtain the Germany national on loan with a 12 million Euros buyout clause.
Apparently Chelsea have made a 20 million pound bid for Frank Ribery from Bayern Munchen.

Ribery worth a lot more than 20 million lol :)
Chelsea can bid all they want but i don't think Ribery is going to leave bayern munchen. He had a great season in bayern winning both the the bundesliga and German Cup no way he's leaving for now...

Bayern Munich have signed goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt on a free transfer from Benfica.
He made just one appearance since his move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. He's going to support the development Michael Rensing and I think he's going to be bayern's second keeper!!
Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reveals to Bild, that the German champions are observing with great interest the 22 years old striker Mario Gomez.
Stuttgart's footballer is observed by many clubs, and in the past has been approached also to Milan.

Gomez is staying in suttgart i think since bayern already have three strikers Klose, Luca Toni and Podolski unless Podolski left bayern tho. I don't think Gomez is good enough for Bayern :)
In another development Ribery could return for the start of the Bundesliga season after undergoing successful surgery on torn ligaments above his ankle.
The France international suffered the injury early in his nation's 2-0 defeat to Italy on Tuesday - a result which eliminated Les Bleus from Euro 2008. He had the operation at the Bogenhausen clinic in Munich. That's a good news!!

Number one Rensing
'The great moment has arrived at last'
While contemplating his personal fitness programme ahead of pre-season, Michael Rensing thought back to the days when Felix Magath coached Bayern. The keeper and his brother drove to the picturesque town of Rottach-Egern by the Tegernsee lake, pulled on their training shoes, and ran up the 1722 metre Wallberg peak. “I wanted more than just a dull jog. Back then, the peak was a real challenge,” reported the 24-year-old, “it was good mental training too.”
Climbing mountains in the metaphorical sense is what confronts Rensing over the next few months, as he steps into the shoes left behind by Oliver Kahn, one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. Far from being daunted, Rensing is a model of determination. “I’ve spent so long yearning for this moment, and it’s arrived at last. That’s why I’ll be giving it even more effort than ever,” he told fcbayern.de on Thursday.
Klinsmann: Rensing can be the best
Rensing now takes over the number one jersey after spending the last five seasons as Kahn’s understudy. “Obviously there’ll be more focus on me than before. A completely different season lies ahead for me personally. But in any case, I’m the most demanding critic of my own performances. This is a dream come true for me,” the player declared, bristling with resolve and anticipation.
After speaking with new boss Jürgen Klinsmann several times in recent weeks, Rensing is assured of the coach’s full backing. Klinsmann himself publicly stated his position at a news conference on Wednesday. “Michael Rensing will start the season as undisputed number one. We’re looking to help him develop, and we’ll give him the time and the support he needs. He can become an outstanding goalkeeper, both here and internationally.” New signing Hans-Jörg Butt will also take responsibility for helping Rensing hone his skills.
Focused on club for now
Rensing made a total of 17 competitive appearances last term, four more than current Germany keeper Jens Lehmann, including the recently-concluded Euro 2008. “For the most part, I made my contribution and underlined my credentials,” commented Rensing. He has yet to finish on the losing side in a total of 23 first-team outings, a streak he is hoping to extend for as long as possible.
Should he deliver the goods, the self-assured 24-year-old may find another level of responsibility waiting for him very soon. “If you perform well as Bayern goalkeeper, you’re bound to be in the frame for the national team. But first of all, my focus is on Bayern, although obviously my dream is to play for Germany at some point,” he admitted. The 1722 metre Wallberg will seem less like a mountain and more a minor hurdle when that comes to pass.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Can Michael Rensing be the best only time will tell i think? Since Rensing will be the starting goal keeper for now he will probably be pretty solid since oliver kahn has retired and hes ready to take the roll from him... he can be good when he wants to but when he gives up a goal his frustration catches him and he tends to slow down just a bit...

Klinsmann’s philosophy:
Attack, Aggression, Action and Authority
Jürgen Klinsmann is not a fan of coaching from the touchline. The new Bayern boss likes to be in the thick of the action, conveying his thoughts and instructions directly to his players. From behind the back four, sometimes in the midfield holding areas, or occasionally out on the wing, Klinsmann issues orders, indicates better zonal positioning, cajoles and encourages. And if he feels it necessary, he will break off the play and point out errors.
That at least was the case in last Saturday’s 45-minute warm-up match between the seniors and the reserves, when Klinsmann covered almost as much ground as his players. The new coach told his first news conference that he wants his men to dominate and dictate matches, but that is merely the briefest of summaries of a far more complex and multi-layered strategy.
Playing to individual strengths
“I do think it’s important for us to define a philosophy for Bayern,” the 43-year-old mused in conversation with fcbayern.de. That extends beyond the field of play to incorporate wider societal dimensions, he feels: “The history of the club, the personalities of the players who shaped Bayern, the culture here in Munich, the region and Bavaria. What’s the defining characteristic of the folk here? Is it innovation, is it the courage to take risks, is it domination, is it the saying: Mia san mia (We are who we are)?“
Naturally, much is dictated by the qualities of the players at the club. “The system has to suit the players, they have to feel comfortable with it,” Klinsmann insisted. Individual ability will play a crucial role. “Our job is to promote each individual’s particular strengths, combining these strengths in a jigsaw, so each goes out there and shows what he can do, perhaps going on to settle the outcome with one piece of individual brilliance.“
The means to an end
Klinsmann is fundamentally convinced “that we have the squad to play attacking, authoritative football.“ Indeed, Bayern’s tactics will almost inevitably call for authority and control, not only in home Bundesliga fixtures but almost always away as well, as experience shows most opponents opting for ultra-defensive strategies.
Klinsmann hopes to prepare his team perfectly for exactly these situations: “Once we’ve sat with the players in a couple of weeks and defined our philosophy, we’ll direct our training efforts directly at it.“ The players have already begun trying out complex short passing and moving exercises in strictly confined spaces.
No change against top teams
Klinsmann wants his men to impose their style of play on higher-quality as well as more limited opposing teams: “We don’t look to anyone else for inspiration. We need a mental attitude which says: our opponents will be forced to adapt to our style of play. We refuse to sit back and let them impose their style on us.”
An essential component in the plan is retaining possession, and regaining it quickly when the ball is lost. “We need to develop the habit of winning the ball back where we lost it. We don’t want to be forced on the defensive and have to reorganise.“ That will entail early pressing all over the field by every member of the team: “If our opponents are trying to construct a move down one flank, we want to try and close them down right there and make it as tight as possible for them.“
Risk of counter-attacks
To help his men in this respect, Klinsmann has had a new line marked on the training pitch, dissecting the field of play longwise. The coach reckons the obvious danger of his side being caught on the break is a risk worth taking. “There are fewer and fewer defenders capably of suddenly switching the play the way Andy Brehme used to do. If we come up against one, we’ll have to chase back after them.“
Maintaining this aggressive style of play for an entire match will naturally require total concentration and superb conditioning. The expanded coaching staff is currently working with the stars on the basics of fitness, tactics, technique and mental strength. “We’re in a position to work with every player, every day, and come up with very deep analyses,” Klinsmann concluded.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
well Jurgen Klinsmann is back to coach Bayern Munchen once again after leaving for quite a while to do other things, of course klinsmann wants attacking style of futbal from Bayern but i think it will be the determination and the effort the players put in, in order to go far in the european competetions, i hope Bayern will have another great season when the bundesliga starts and i can believe that Bayern will take the title again if they play with energy and determination for every single game...

Klinsmann: Inter have a place in my heart
Jürgen Klinsmann has never forgotten the three seasons he spent at Inter Milan, more properly known by their full name of Internazionale. Between 1989 and 1992, the Bayern boss scored 34 goals in 95 appearances for the north Italians, winning the UEFA Cup in 1991 and the Italian Supercup in 1989. “Once an Interista, for ever an Interista,“ he explained to fcbayern.de, revealing an enduring fondness for the 16-time Serie A champions.
The coach is understandably delighted to be facing his former club in Tuesday’s contest for the Franz Beckenbauer Cup. Ahead of the meeting at the Allianz Arena, Klinsmann discussed the prestige friendly, the Italian club and their new boss José Mourinho with fcbayern.de.
Interview: Jürgen Klinsmann
fcbayern.de: Jürgen Klinsmann, the Inter clash on Tuesday is Bayern’s last pre-season warm-up. How important is the match in your plans?
Klinsmann: “The game is extremely important to us. Inter Milan are a huge club, one of the biggest in the world, who are now coached by José Mourinho, a man with real charisma. Inter are also a former club of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and myself. We’re really looking forward to the match, and having such a terrific fixture to open the season is just fantastic for the fans.“
fcbayern.de:What are your personal links to Inter?
Klinsmann: “As the Italians say: Once an Interista, for ever an Interista. Inter Milan have a place in my heart. It was my first move abroad, it’s where I learnt the language and the culture, and I became a fan of Italy as a country. Inter is a special club within Italy too, and matters a great deal to the fans. Whenever Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and I travel to Italy, we’re always approached by Inter fans. You’re always one of them and you’ll be one of them your whole life, even though I’ve not lived there for 15 years. It’s really phenomenal.“
fcbayern.de:Inter have a new coach, José Mourinho. Do you know him personally and what’s he like?
Klinsmann: “I know him from my time as Germany coach, when Robert Huth was playing for him at Chelsea. I flew to London a couple of times, we ate together or sat over a cup of coffee. I think José Mourinho is a fascinating coach who’s his own man and has his own approach. When he was in the USA with Chelsea I had the opportunity to watch him run pre-season training. His work on the training ground is fantastic and very thoroughly planned. He’s a strategist, but he likes to have fun too – I think that’s very important because it radiates enthusiasm and joy. It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on at Inter. Just like at Bayern, expectations there couldn’t be higher, but he’s used to that from his time at Chelsea, and this is the next step for him.“
fcbayern.de: How do you rate Inter, and how can we expect them to play?
Klinsmann: “I don’t know how far Inter are in pre-season, although the Italians usually start later than in Germany. But Inter are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and their goal is definitely to win the Champions League. Obviously Serie A is very important to them, but the fans are dreaming of the Champions League – and José and his team will be judged on that basis.“

tomorrow Bayern faces Inter in the Franz Beckenbauer Cup, even though it might be just a friendly it show be a good game as both sides will be playing with there top players...
According to an article on Sports Illustrated's website, Bayern Munich were interested at one point in signing Landon Donovan and may still sign him during the winter transfer period. The article describes how Bayern's manager Jurgen Klinsmann was interested in signing Landon, but the Board of Directors were concerned because of Landon's previous experiences in the Bundesliga.
I really hope that this move does go through as it really would be a great opportunity for Landon to finally prove that he is a top class player. I think that he has matured to the point that he would finally be able to make it at a big club in a big league in Europe and would improve immensely as a player. There really isn't much more for him to accomplish in MLS, although the league would suffer by losing one of its marquee players. If Landon decides that he just doesn't want to leave MLS I think he will be sacrificing something by never getting the opportunity to play in a team of players where there are players who are at least as good as him and some who are even better.
One could argue that when he plays for the U.S National Team that he is playing with a group of players that are as talented as he is and some might be better, but it isn't the same as playing at Bayern Munich. There is no Luca Toni, Bastien Schweinsteiger, or Franck Ribery in the U.S. National Team. We'll see what ends up happening as for now its just a rumor, but one that I hope ultimately ends up working out.
Bayern Munich are keen on Lazio sensation Mauro Zarate.
The Argentine has been a revelation after joining Lazio in the summer and has caught the eye of big-spending Bayern.
The German giants are in crisis and are seeking a new striker signing for the January market.
Bayern Muenchen are already thinking at the next market window, considering that Lukas Podolski will probably leave. The first two names in Juergen Klinsmann's shortlist seem to be Zenit's Pavel Pogrebnyak and Lazio's Mauro Zarate.

there were transfer speculations that Lukas Podolski would leave and sign for Werder..
But I am pretty sure that Bayern would not allow this to happen because they know what Bremen could make out of him..

I hope we get Pogrebnyak he would be a great addition to help us upfront on the striking force with toni and klose...... i can see a great duel being made between klose and Pogrebnak they would be dangeorus upfront if we can get this guy in the next market window.
Lukas Podolski has been complaining that he wants to lose Bayern for about 3-4 months now, the only reason he wants to leave is because he doesnt get enough playing time on the field and i totally agree with him because klinnsman is being an ass and he barely gets to start, from being champions last season to being 11th now in the standings is due to lack of in consistency by bayern.... If Hitzfeld was start around we would be fighting for top stop right now just like last year when we won the league with not much threats..

^Rumours abt Poldi leaving bayern has been around for awhile now . He has been very vocal abt his dissapointment on how he was always a sub in bayern. He's currently committed with bayern at least till the next transfer window in January. So we will see until then and if he do leave it will be a sad day for me. Bayern will survive without him altho losing poldolski will be a great lost to the club.
Other than that this will also be Brazilian's Ze Roberto last season with bayern. He's been in the full squad but he's thinking abt joining another club and will not renew his contract with bayern.

Yeah he's committed to bayern at the moment but i wouldn't be suprised if he moves to another club next transfer window in January. It will be a sad day for me if that really happens but at least poldi will be given more opportunity to play in the first squad with another club. He's under utilised at bayern and its frustrating for any players.
Juventus are already in advanced talks with representatives of Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The Germany international is off contract in June and has already stated he is learning Italian ahead of a prospective move to Serie A.
Controcampo says Juve are working closely with Schweinsteiger's agent, Robert Schneider, over a five-year contract worth £2.8 million-a-season.
It's been suggested Juve will seek to convince Schneider that they can work closely in the future to expand his representative business if Schweinsteiger agrees to terms.

ahh it felt good to see Schweinsteiger scoring a goal after assisting many goals from his nice crossing skills :D the goalie must of felt like shit, he had no chance of the saving the shot since he jumped the wrong way hahah :D , I had to change my name because iv been following ballack since i was a kid so yeah....
yo dude dude lol, i never say this slang to anyone, no one uses here where i live but i guess thats only in the US..
Anyways, Rensing had a decent game he Challenged Mutu,Giladrino and there other strikers when they had a decent chance to score he came out and knocked the ball away from them. It was good to see him challegning Mutu because he had a lot of chances to score but he denied him numerous times to keep his clean sheet.... I still think we need a better keeper man perhaps someone like Neuer or Adler would be perfect for us :D
Apparently Lucas Podolski is going to be swapped with Adrian Mutu from Fiorentina

Anyone know how Landon Donovan is so far doing in his practice trial with Bayern players ? he started on Monday...
Bayern Munich are seeking a substitute for Mark Van Bommel, who seems intended to leave the bavarian club at the end of the season. The main target seems to be O.M. 25 year old Lorik Cana.
Juventus interest for 24 year old attacking midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is not a novelty, as the piemontese club has contacted Bayern Munich during the last summer market; the 15 million euros request seemed too high for the italians, but the situation could change in January; if by that time the player won't renew his deal with Bayern, he will in fact be free to negotiate with another club, and Juventus seem ready to offer him a four year deal at 3,5 millions per season.
According to Marca, Tottenham have joined Real Madrid in the auction for Bayern forward Lukas Podolski. The main problem for the merengues is the fact that the player won't be eventually able to play in the Champions League.
