Valladolid, rivals in the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey
Valladolid. Real Madrid now has their rival for the first match of the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey. The group of Pucela will be a new step in the knockout tournament, following the draw at the City of Football in Las Rozas. The matches will be played on the 12th and the 19th of January, playing the first at Nuevo Estadio José Zorrilla. Osasuna-Getafe was the only pairing between two Premier league teams.
Emilio Butragueño and Manuel Redondo represented Real Madrid at the cup-draw. The General Sporting Manager´s assessement was the following: “You always have to be very attentive in the qualifiying rounds to avoid any surprises. You have to be cautious, you have to remember that we are going to Valladolid on a date when, for sure, the temperature won´t be good, it will be very cold. Valladolid is a team from the second division with a first division tradition, and they will be, without doubt, a very difficult rival".
“For sure the away game will be convenient, but if I was to say that I was content with the draw, I´d be disrespecting Valladolid, something which is far from my wishes. Obviously there are teams from the first division who we could have drawn, but the team we drew were relegated by circumstances; they have a culture and tradition of a top-division team", added Butragueño.
The Madrid representative assessed, from a sporting point of view, the match that Real Madrid played with Real Sociedad: “The team was quite consistent. I don´t agree with many of the comments that were I´ve heard. I think we had chances to win the match quite comfortably. Ronaldo had chances that normally usually goals and I think the team played pretty well. That we only base our strategy on individuals? We have players who in themselves can win a game. Ronaldo can score three or four goals and that is why he´s one of the best players in the world."
And as to the future he indicates: "Obviously the schedule is more and more complicated, but here we are always ready. We are Real Madrid and we have to be prepared."

The conditions for those who do the draw for the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey were the following: 1.The clubs for whom the starting date of the championship (1st of September) were classifed to play European competitions (those affected were Real Madrid, Seville and Athletic) cannot play against each other. 2.The away matches will be played in the stadium of the teams from the lower category. If the draw matches up two clubs from the same category, and if neither of them are involved in a European competition, the order of the grounds will be in the order of that the balls were drawn.
