Celtic open up four-point gap
LONDON, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Celtic stretched their lead in the Scottish Premier League to four points after Chris Sutton's goal gave them a 1-0 home win over Dundee United on Saturday.
Sutton headed home an Alan Thompson corner after 18 minutes for his eighth goal of the season to put Celtic on 47 points.
Second-placed Rangers have 43, although they can close the gap on Sunday when they play away to Kilmarnock.
It was a bad day for third-placed Aberdeen who had Steven Craig sent off in the 1-0 defeat at Dundee for whom Neil Barrett scored the winner.
Elsewhere, Inverness Caledonian Thistle won their first league match under new manager Craig Brewster when they beat Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park.
Richie Hart put Thistle ahead before Graham Bayne made it 2-0. Dave Clarkson pulled one back for Motherwell, but was sent off for two bookings in the second half.
Hibernian's Derek Riordan grabbed a late winner to give his side a 2-1 home victory against Dunfermline.
Stephen Glass opened the scoring after 65 minutes but Dunfermline levelled two minutes later through Andy Tod.
