Have any of you ever seen the move "Victory"? It has Pele and English soccer legends in it. I'll tell you more if you want, but has anybody seen it?

I remember the movie (it was also called "Escape to Victory", if my memory serves me right).

The stadium on which they made the movie is in Budapest, and now belongs to the club called "MTK". I was on that stadium twice in last three years when my "Dinamo" (Zagreb) played there. First time we lost 1:0 and the second time we won by 0:2. Maybe the presence of one of the original cast of the movie helped: At that time our coach was Osvaldo Ardiles! ;)

Few days before the match, Ardiles told a little anecdote to Croatian journalists. He described the shooting of the scene in which S. Stalone was supposed to save the penalty kick. He was told to which side the ball would be sent, and all he had to do was to jump to that side and pick the lightly sent ball... But he just couldn't do it for many times over and over... :D :D :D

Yeah I've seen the movie. I don't remember if it's called Escape to Victory or just Victory. Pele did some fancy moves in it didn't he?

Yeah, he's sitting down with some of the prisoners, when the ball gets kicked over 2 him by accident. he promptly does some keepy - uppies.
Or you could be on about the part where he scores with an overhead kick, even though he's meant to have a broken collarbone.
Sir Michael Caine is in it, and some of the footy players are Bobby Moore (R.I.P), John Wark, Nicky Summerbee, etc.

What year did it come out? Was it a sports movie, action or comedy?

BTW, who's seen Mean Machine? That's a good movie too.....

Yeah, I watched Victory afew times.... Only for the fact that I wanted to watch Pele act... didn't do too badly though, as did the other players... Stallone, well, he's Stallone... Caine was good as usual.... One of those humanity-in-the-face-of-tyranny-type of soppy films though, kinda the ones they show on disney and Hallmark...

And pele, being the God that he is, does an overhead-kick in slow-motion that wins them the match.... This was before Jackie Chan and Jet Li, so that's just about the only acrobatic action move in film history at the time.
