MAN UTD 2-0 ARSENAL The Local English Derby Arsenal loses it's record of 49 matches unbeaten. Can they do it again?

I'll be surprised if any team does it again, including us.

Will, sorry brother. I have yet to see the match (tomorrow night), but I hear there was some questionable officiating and a few less-than-clean plays by both sides. I wish it could all be cleaner - but at least there were no brawls like last season.

Yes, it was fiercely contested, that's to be expected from a match like this. But it didn't get too out of hand like last season, which can only be a good thing. RVN's got himself into a spot of bother lately though it seems. First a deliberate elbow against Sparta Prague in the CL then that ugly, deliberate, possibly career-ending challenge on Ashely Cole - both of which he's expected to face charges for.

I'll be surprised if its beaten or ever got near to be honest........I still think that Nottm Forests run was better though....simply because they won a European Cup in between...

Fair enough, I see what you're saying - ours may have been longer but there wasn't a great deal of cup-winning success involved. Just the Prem.

Aye, but to roll over every team in the EPL is impressive nevertheless.
Shifting gears back to the match, RVN's conduct has not been impressive lately. He's a great play-maker and striker, whose record until now has been reasonably devoid of tarnish. I'm not certain exactly what he hopes to accomplish making brash challenges like he's been doing - they make him and his squad look like brutish thugs. I was never happy at Arsenal last year for taunting him over his errant PK - I thought their behaviour (you like that, Will? I spelled it with a 'u') was tasteless and unsportsman-like. Even so, if RVN was trying to 'take revenge' as it were, it is a behaviour that is equally deplorable, and wholly intolerable.

Arsenal are only kiddie champions until they actually do the business in Europe. On the otherhand, Notts run back in the 70's or whatever was a cakewalk compared to todays euro comps.

That is quite correct...Arsenal will not be taken seriously until they do summit in Europe......Forest played champions in the 70's though(and knocked possibly the best team in europe out of the competition Liverpool) not 2nd 3rd and 4th placed teams in their respective leagues

Yes but the overall standard of the European Cup, now CL, was much weaker back then than now. Among the reasons is coz only 1 team from each country played in the EC, now youv'e got Juve,Milan, Inter etc all in playing in the same comp.

actually i agree with that..but arsenal now is going to win the CL, and they built the team from the bottom. they not just like other team (especially MU) whose spend millions pound to buy a superstar pleyer to win something..
"Wenger arrived at Highbury after leaving Japanese club Grampus Eight in September 1996 and, in conjunction with players he signed and turned into world-class stars like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, has made the north London club the dominant force in English football."
full respects to Arsene Wenger..

I would'nt say that they built from the bottom the defence was already there, a major part...and they did win the title a few years before......They wont win the CL in my opinion as i just dont think they have what it takes to do it. Agree about Vieira and Henry though.....Wenger done wonders there!!...

Exactly, together Henry and Vieira cost around £15m... how much would they be worth together today?

Just Patrick's attitude towards the referee on Sunday...Questioning every decision....I dont like to see that regardless who it is....The Ref made mistakes yeah but did'nt get much help from the knobs that call themselves Assistant Referees!!.....

I FINALLY saw the match yesterday, and I have to say it was entirely too 'dirty.' I particularly disliked Ruud's body-check of Lehmann. Arsenal had quite a few dirty challenges on M.U., too, though...

RVN's challenge on Cole was much worse... good thing he got what he deserved for it, and that Cole came away unharmed.

Cole's pretty much got the LB position full-time. He may not be the biggest of defenders, but he does his job well. He wouldn't play otherwise. If you're playing down the challenge made on him like that, then you apparently didn't see it. That's the kind of 'tackle' that can end a player's career.

Nistelrooij didn't stamp on his leg, ankle, whatever, he stood on it gently, and like I said, is Cole now injured until the end of the season? no, so stop making a big fuss* outa nothing. Worry about the Arse's pathetic display against the Souths instead.

Alright Will!!......Dont wanna make light of the challenge.........But!!!........His leg was hanging at the time and the way Cole went down you would have thought he was shot......a challenge like that on a hanging leg would not hurt at all....we've all played the game (i would imagine) and we all know that...there are worse challenges on a Sunday morning over the park!!......Now if his leg had've been planted that would have been a different matter!!!....Cole does'nt do himself any favours by going down like he did(hes not a stranger to doin that)...

As long as we stay top of the table, I don't care if there's one or two less than good results. Throughout the course of a season, there's bound to be some bad matches for each team.
I'm not making any more of a fuss about it, because RVN got a suspension, just as it should be.

LOL, true. After the complete undefeated season, it was inevitable we'd lose soon, surely it would be impossible to complete a second season without loss.

Yeah, ours wasn't great but United's was from my POV, definitely. :smallpig: Perhaps RVN's absence had some sort of an effect? They were missing easy shots, RVN could probably have helped out there.

Never undestood why that idiot Ferguson bought Saha. He never scored tons for Fulham either. May aswell have bough Sava, Boa Morte, or Brain Mdbride. Saha sucks, more suited to French league I reckon.

Yeah, he's done really well - stood out in the Man City Carling Cup match and saved our necks against Saints. Because of him, our Premiership undefeated run is no longer 0! :)

Definitely more suited to France, I agree. He'd fit right into a side like PSG, Marseille or Lyon.
