McBride to be loaned to Preston North End
Columbus veteran will play in England First Division during the offseason
McBride will not miss any MLS action while on loan in England.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Major League Soccer and the Columbus Crew announced today that Crew and U.S. National Team forward Brian McBride will be loaned to English First Division club Preston North End FC at the conclusion of The Crew's 2000 season. McBride, 28, will report to PNE following The Crew's final payoff game and return to Columbus in March of 2001, ensuring that he will not miss any MLS time.
Preston North End is competing in the English First Division for the first time in 20 years this season, having earned promotion by winning the 1999-2000 Second Division championship. McBride had not played professionally overseas since the 1994-95 season, which he spent with VfL Wolfsburg of the German Second Division. He will join ex-Crew marksman Stern John, one of the most prolific goal-scorers in MLS history, in the English First Division. John plays for Nottingham Forest.
"I think that this can only help Brian, The Crew and the league as a whole," said head coach Tom Fitzgerald. "It is an opportunity for him to continue to grow as a player, by going head-to-head against some very good competition, and he will then bring that experience back to our team. It is something he wants to do and I support him wholeheartedly, as do his teammates and the entire organization."
McBride has been with The Crew since its inaugural 1996 season - having been the No. 1 overall pick, by Columbus, in the very first MLS draft. He is a five-time MLS all-star and a key player on the U.S. National Team., for which he will compete this Sunday, September 3, in a 2002 World Cup qualifying match against Guatemala in Washington, D.C. He is currently at the national team's training camp in preparation for Sunday's match.
McBride missed six weeks this season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured cheek bone, but he has totaled 14 points (5g, 4a) in 16 matches, to date.

well after looking more into the mcbride transfer he was also offered to play for glascow rangers but turned the offer down because they wanted him ready for this weekend for CL playoff and he had alreadt commited to the national team and comitted to finsh the mls year so he went on to sign with the team in englands 1st division i in a way am glad and sad that he turned down rangers he was offered a starting role on rangers and turned it down which i thnk was well not a great move but then again i think he turned it down to be able to play with the national team which is good but anyway at least he will be playing in europe and will be seen by more clubs

he was not offered a starting role. Rangers wanted to loan him for a couple weeks to see how he did. and if he did well enough than they would keep him for the rest of the season. But because he couldn't come right away the decided against the loan. the same thing is going to happen with Preston. They will play him in the reserves and see how he does. if he impresses he will get his chance to play with the first team. but he will have to impress off the bench before he gets a spot in the starting 11.

ok ya that is correct i misread the article they wanted mcbride as a target striker and he would have come off the bench to at rangers as for what his role at preston will be i dont know i can only take your word for it but yes he was needed for next week but turned rangers down
