Hi Everyone

Have a wee dispute which I would like solved. Has Ruud Van Nistelrooy ever scored a goal for Manchester United from outside the 18 yard box?

Eager to hear your responses.

there have been stories that back in the 3rd grade he scored 1 from distance, but these rumours can't be confirmed.

LOL
and he claims he scored once from 25yards but he said it was in the park with no keeper when he was 13.

I can't understand why you guys don't like RVN...he may score unglamourous goals....but 'a' thats his job...and 'b' if it were so unskilled why can't anyone else do it like him? he also holds the ball up in the midfield better than anyone.

you guys can't tell me his goal against germany in euro wasn,'t beautiful.

I don't remember anyone saying they didn't like him in this thread... although I don't really like him... well OK, I've said it now. :ronaldo:

It's also the job of many other strikers to score goals funnily enough, and there's a bigger number than you'd think who do it more often than him on average. :p

he also holds the ball up in the midfield better than anyone.
C. Ronaldo? Vieira? Pires?

I meant to say he holds up the ball well in the midfield as a forward...the players you named are midfielders, they don't need to hold the ball up they push it forward.

Secondly, there are not alot of players with better scoring records than RVN, there are some I suppose but not many.

I guess it depends when we're talking about - if it's overall scoring record then yeah, there's not many with a better record than Ruud.

RVN is never a player who is as dynamic and creative like for e.g Sheva, RVN depends a lot on the midfield like Inzaghi, without the support, they can't do anything, but one thing is for sure, RVN is a good poacher of the ball ...

Yeah, I guess as we've seen it's always useful to have a player like that. :)

RVN is not a player in the molds of shevchenko or henry, he can't really create much chances for himself, he relies mostly on the midfield to get the ball to him, but he is deadly at finishing

man he is crazy he can make a chance out of nothing and then hell score

I'm thinking more along the same lines of 7becks7, he more often relies on chances being created for him. :rolling:
But you do have to be a bit brave to bet against him scoring in a match...

I'm not so sure if this statement is accurate because I wouldn't know too much about past poachers in history but I'd say Ruud van Nistelrooy is at least top 3 in the all-time best tap-in striker list. He's just for whatever reason at the right place, at the right time. His goals are usually not great to look at (there are some rare exceptions) but he has that predatorial instinct, thus making him much more successful than just another tap-in striker. I don't like his attitude and style but he gets the job done and at least he's not as obnoxious as Totti (who is though really?). :D

It would've been nicer if he did it straight from the corner ,remember France vs Croatia when Henry chippe in a near post corner ,Zidane flicked it over his own head and then Gallas had that free header that he somehow missed ,that would've been a sweet goal. :rolling:

Alright, this thread is kinda old, i know. The reason why i'm posting here is that Ruud Van Nistelrooy managed to score his first goal in United's shirt from outside the penalty box area in saturday's game against Charlton. Does anyone know where can I see this goal ? A link or something.

I saw, it wasn't too bad. I believe it nutmegged the defender infront of him and just went under the diving goalie... it probably should have been saved but o well, a goal is a goal.
