Soccer is not the biggest sport in the US. You have baseball, basketball and football that have dominated and will continue to do so. It`s pretty much the same story here in Australia, soccer is down the line but getting better.

With the US silencing several countries that their main sport is soccer, you can safely say you have earnt some respect. People may not admit it but considering where you were and where you are now, the US have done well.

The US is advancing in soccer very rapidly. The World Cup was a very big disappointment for them, but after, they had many great results: They beat Germany, Argentina, etc. . . I think they are improving dramatically.

It's hard to think what the US will be like if soccer was the number one sport. Wouldn't that be amazing?

Anyway, I respect the US, and they will surprise the world in 2006 if not 2002.

In footballing terms I have no respect for the States. Sure they've improved, and beaten some very good teams, but when it comes down to it, they'll lose. Beating good teams in meaningless tournaments is just that, meaningless.

Maybe I'm a bit biased, but it seems to me that the Americans are arrogant on the pitch, despite the fact that they're big fat zeros in the world of football.

When they can advance to at least the second round of the world cup without buying their way into it, then, and only then will I respect them.

wow wow wow hold up 1st of all you dont come up on here huffing and puffing a bunch of BS and as for arrogant i would love to hear an explination for that one you better hope like hell you are not english , and as for buying our way i would like to hear another one of your brillant theories , by no means do you have to respect us , but dont come in here talking trash , by no means are we the best but , we arent that bad of a team and we are getting better and better and we sure as hell are not arrogant and sure as hell did not buy our way into the world cup so if i were you i would shut my mouth and may i ask what national team do you support???

Buy our way into the 2nd round. You had better back up your remarks, or just back up.

Prosinecki

Well the arrogant remark was a bit much. I'll take that back.

As for buying your way into the second round, obviously I can't prove it, but I'm convinced that you bought it in USA94. The only way for me to prove it would be if it was exposed, but just because something isn't exposed, doesn't mean it didn't happen. The US had to get to the second round while hosting the tournament, if they wanted to increase the popularity of the game. That only leads to a bigger buyout, which is the fact that CONCACAF gets 3 spots for the world cup. That's absolutely ridiculous, and if the United States was not a part of CONCACAF, there's no way they'd have three spots. This way, the US is virtually guranteed a spot in the WC. The competition is pathetic other than Mexico, and even if you don't get second place, you sure as hell will get third. If you can convince me that CONCACAF deserves even 2 spots, let alone 3, I'll retract what I've said. It's not Mexico or Canada that "convinced" FIFA to give 3 spots.

As for the country I support, if my username didn't make it obvious, I'm Croatian. But what difference does it make what I am? Does that have any bearing on what I say? I think not! If I was English, would that have any relevance to this discussion?

You won't be able to prove it, cause it did not happen. You are letting your personal prejudice cloud your judgement.

Prosinecki

Prejudice is such a strong word. It's also very inappropriate, you don't even know me!

I know I'll never be able to prove the first part of my post, don't really care to anyway, it didn't affect my country.

But the second part of my post dealing with the 3 spots for CONCACAF cannot be argued against. How can you?

South America has 4 teams and North & Central America have 3!!!! Where's the justice in that? The south americans have at least 2 teams that are always contenders in Brazil and ARgentina, while the pride of north america is Mexico! :D What a joke.

The US has a priveleged place in the WC. They never ever earned it, they BOUGHT it, and if you deny this, your patriotism is clouding your judgement.

well if mexico is the pride on concocaf they how do you explain a 3-0 defeat over them not even a month in time

think before you talk and we did noy buy the world cup make up all you want and wc spots are given on amount of countries in you confederation not the talent !!!!

mirkwood

You said yourself that you were prejudiced: the word you chose was bias, it all amounts to the same thing.

Look guys you're really taking this to heart. I'm sorry, it's just my opinion. I only say it because I firmly believe it, not because I want to cause problems.

But try to imagine that you're not American or living in the US.

Lilphenom, do you realize what you said? You said that WC spots are allocated according to the amount of countries, not talent!

Then why does Europe have so many spots? Asia has more countries than Europe does, yet they have the least amount of spots. Even AFrica has more countries than Europe and less spots. So much for that arguement.

I can't convince you of this, because you don't want to be convinced. I don't blame you, since it is your country. But try to look at it from an impartial point of view. How do you justify 3 spots for CONCACAF, and if the US was not in CONCACAF, would there be 3 spots?

I say that you can't justify it, you haven't even tried, and NO, if the US was not in CONCACAF, they would not have 3 spots!

look i have no problem with you not respecting the US that was the point of this topic but i wont allow you to say we bought the world cup that is total bs we made to the second round and i will say i am half colombian and half american but my i am all american when ot comes to my nationalitly i was born and raised here and have never even been to colombia my mother is colombian so that is the only reason i would be considered latin . and i can promise you that that own goal was not planned do you know what happenened to the man that scored the own goal ??? he was shot in the streets of colombia now do you think he wanted to risk getting killed by giving an own goal???? think about what you say and if u still think we bought it then you are just 100% bias i have no problem like i have said with you not respecting US but dont come in here making up stuff ok.

no hard feeling but if i were to go and say your country bougt there way through with no evidence you would respond the same way

Alright lilphenom, then we'll agree to disagree, and put this behind us. :)

I don't know how much you follow MLS, but apparently some people don't want Mattheus back in the line up at Metro Stars(i think that's where he plays). They've won 5 out of the 7 games without him, or something like that.

Have you heard anything about that?

lilphenom
06-28-2000, 07:41 AM
YA I HAVE ALSO HEARD THIS AND IT IS TRUE THE THE METRO STAS HAVE BEEN ON THERE A GAME AS OF LATE BUT IF HE IS GOING TO BE ON THE 1ST TEAM OR NOT I REALLY CANT TELL YOU RIGHT NOW BUT I WILL LOOK INTO IT . ALSO I NOTICED YOU HAVE MADE QUIT A FEW POSTS AT THE INTER FORUM ARE YOU A BIG FAN OF THEM ???

Prosinecki
06-28-2000, 07:54 AM
Sorry man, I'm a Milan fan. I don't hate Inter though, in fact I respect them so much. A rivalry is so much better to me when I respect the other team, not hate them. I post there because there's just not much to talk about in Milan right now. We're not exactly players in the transfer market, we're just kind forgotten about it seems.

I'd love to see an Inter-Milan CL final at the San Siro. :)

The black&red against the black&blue. That's what football's all about :) :)

ya i agree about that about the REPECT thing :D j\k but ya i would love to see an all milan final but we need Ronnie and vieri healthy 1st

OK, you guys dropped it while I was gone, so I will. Had not heard that about Lothar. Who cares anyway? I was never a fan of his. I do not believe his coming to MLS is of any help to the growth of the league.

lilphenom and mirkwood u guys are dumb. first of all prosinecki is right usa buys its way not to the second round but they send players to europe to get better. only reyna and keller deserve to be there the others i have no idea how they got there but there skills didnt so i assume they spent money to have teams keep them there. and if u are so into soccer how come u didnt know where prosinecki was from. the 3-0 win over mexico i want u to get it through your head that that mexican national team was a club team in mexico and if u still dont understand then imagine any MLS team representing usa soccer without bruce arena and other international stars just an mls team wearing the usa jersey...ok did u get that in your mind good now imagine u only have one weeke to get ready for the competition and u have a unexperienced coach and not only that but u werent given the videos of the last three games s. africa, ireland, amd mexico played. so try to beat mexicos full squad with galaxy, or whatever team u choose yeah i thought u couldnt beat mexico like that so thats what the mexican team was it was a club team without preperation and all that i mentioned above. as for u prosinecki dont apoligize they asked for an opinion u gave it and they cant accept it dont worry i have your back.

U.S. soccer team ... lots of money (much of it payed to FIFA) , no skills , lots of arrogance, no character.
