We have an amazing team but it seems that we are also ruled by a "stupid" mentality of playing to lose. I bet you Scolari would win the next 5 WC with our squad. That is why when Capello will be our NT coach, that is when we will win something, I hope Lippi too can before him though.

Don't get me wrong, Italy's squad is good, but can you seriously say that it's good enough to win the next 5 world cups??I think Argentina, France and Brazil all have far better squads..

Yeah, it amazes me how they're failing to win big competitions. They should be finalists at least but in WC 2002 and Euro 2004 they've been a real disappointment.

On paper, Italy have a very strong world-class squad but I think that Brasil is the strongest overall. I was dissapointed that Scolari left Brasil because he was the perfect coach for them. I'm also a Portugal supporter so its great to see Scoarli with the Portugeuse NT but I don't think Portugal have the "player resources" that Brasil can offer Felipao. Brasil has world-class strikers, world-class playmakers, world-class players all over midfield, world-class fullbacks, world-class centre-backs, and a world-class goalie... all with a hint of samba magic. In terms of individual talent, no one can touch Brasil but Italy do have a strong squad as do England, France, Argentina etc.

I doubt that any of those teams have a better team then Italy. Especially because in the last world cup, they whole did worse than us. We have a world class team but people dont realize how good some players are and give more credit to a rookie like Rooney because he is foreign then an Italian youngster. As of now, I think Brasil is the best one but after that, I would say its an opinion, but to me its Italy.

it's been a dry spell without a trophy for italy since 1982, that's a long time for a football heavyweight, but they came close at wc94 and euro2000, also at italia 90 i was expecting a germany v italy final but argentina proved to be a hard team to break down. Perhaps if italy were better in penalty shootouts we would'nt be even discussing this topic, as that has cost them dearly over the last 15 years, eliminating them from world cups in 90,94 and 98, while the other superpower's like germany,brazil and argentina seem to thrive when it goes to penalties. They'll be strong contender's as usual in future tornament's so it's probably just a matter of time before they breakthrough and win another title, though it must be getting frustrating for italian supporters.

Its is, seeing you get so close and then France gets 4 minutes extra time and they tie, then they win. Or in 94, a player like Baggio and others missing pk's. And in 98 Di Biagio missing that pk so bad. Yes its pretty bad. I think thought that with a good coach and NOT someone like Trap, we can win. Lippi seems not too bad for the moment but I think that when Capello will coach Italy, we will win big time!

Italy has not done too well lately because of mainly the coach. Trap was not good enough. And the problem is that Trap couldt make a group.

as for italy i see a drop in skill but it will hopefully get better with time

as of right now the teams with best chances IMO are argentina,brazil,holland

Italy have the capability to win any major tournoments but its up to how the team performs. Italy could have won the world cup the Euro cup but small mistakes often lead their downfall. But with the U-20 have won the world cup and with the new generation players like Gilardino coming it could make the dream come true. :smoking:

Italy did great in the wc. for the last 20 years.

1990-semis

1994-finals

The problem is the coach; Italy needs to be agressive; they are a 3 times wc. champ; and they must prove their superiority in every match.
Besides I think that Italia will miss Baggio (who spent his days between Italia and the south of Argentina)for a long time¨il codino¨is hard to replace.
It has happend to Brazil with Pelé and to Argentina with Maradona.
It´s gonna take time and patience to build a team strong team again; but Italia will always be Italia and in the wc. they show why they are the best of Europe.
