Rivaldo will be an Olympiakos player next season. How do you think he will do??

Can he ever get back to his very best??

I think the peaceful country of Greece could be perfect for him

I think he'll do just fine ... as most imported players have done in the past ...

Greeks have a tendancy to "idolize" foreign players - and that almost always makes them want to play harder to please those fans ...

Also ... I've never heard of a foreign player complaining about life in Greece ... so far - they've all loved living there ... they're highly paid - beautiful villas for their family to live in ... great climate - fantastic beaches ... and thousands of adoring fans ... what more could they ask for ?

tammuz, thats exactly what he did, he joined Olympiacos. And i belive he will do great.

And i dont think Milan is the reason for his bad Seria A spell. He simply didnt adapt well in Italy.

Rivaldo DID have the chance to go to qatar, for more money even. But he decided to stay in greece, in olympiakos, where he knew he would have some CL action. Maybe a comeback? I hope so.

Greece DOES seem to idolize foreign players, when we got bermudez, we went crazy and everyone knew everything about him, when we got karembeu, all u saw in greece were olympiakos karembeu shirts, and now rivaldo.... I just hope he turns out to be a good deal :)

I've been following Olympiakos' pre-season friendlies in Italy and Spain, Rivaldo's played two games and scored 2 goals, and his general play is excellent! Rivaldo is not finished! He was doing well at Milan initially but when he went through his bad patch Kaka broke through and was Milan's best player so he just couldn't get in, and the bust up with the coach didn't help either! Rivaldo was a target for Liverpool, Bolton, Galatasary, Newcastle, Monaco, and Flamengo but he chose Olympiakos and mark my words he will do well!

Everyone said Jay-Jay Okocha had finished when he went to Bolton and he's tearing Premiership teams apart, Rivaldo will have a similar impact in Greece.

I think that Rivaldo is not worn out just yet. With the boost of him in the side I think it's plausible that Olympiakos can progress from the group stage of the Champions League - either that or narrowly missing out on a place in the next round (their group also contains Liverpool, Deportivo and Monaco).

People don't realise just how good Olympiakos have been in Europe these past 15 years. They've been to the Quarters 9 times and the semis once. So that's only 5 times they haven't been represented in the latter stages, and that includes the last 4 years. So maybe Rivaldo, Okkas, & Schurrer will be the spark they lost when Zahovic & Zetterberg left

Unhappy Rivaldo eyes Greek exit

ATHENS, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Brazilian striker Rivaldo, who walked out of the stadium after being substituted last weekend, has said he will wait until the end of the season to decide on his future at Greek club Olympiakos Piraeus.
'When the championship finishes, I'll think about my future,' the 32-year-old World Cup winner told the Greek daily newspaper Kathimerini. 'I'll stay until the summer to win titles and then we'll see.'

Rivaldo, who signed a two-year contract with the club last July worth 1.8 million euros ($2.35 million) a year, was angered by coach Dusan Bajevic's decision to substitute him at halftime during Sunday's match against Aris Salonika.

He left the stadium immediately and did not turn up for training on Monday, although the club has denied reports of any great disagreement with the coach.

'With regard to articles which spoke of a problem in the relations between our footballer Rivaldo and our team's coach Dusan Bajevic, Olympiakos FC wants to clarify that no such issue exists,' said a statement issued by the club.

It added that Rivaldo's absence from training on Monday was due solely to a family matter and that he had received permission from the technical staff.

Olympiakos, who won the Greek title for seven straight years before Panathinaikos took it from them last season, are currently top of the league with a three-point lead and a game in hand over second-placed AEK Athens.

Yeah, Rivaldo tried to have the coach sucked but when Olympiakos president told that Bajevic is the ones who decides ,Rivaldo shuted his mouth :D.

To leave and go where? Where else he will play Champions Leauge and payed like that for his age and form?

When Rivaldo came to Greece, all Olympiakos fans refered to him like being a god. ''He is the greatestin Greek leauge'', ''we will smash Panathinaikos'',''we are going for the champions leauge'' and other thinks like that.

Now after some months passed most of my friends who are Olympiakos fans are against Rivaldo, they don't mind if he plays or not and some of them they want him to leave... What do you guys supporting Olympiakos here think?

That is because you have never saw a Greek league game and you don't know any other players. It is of course one of the first names of the Greek league, but god no!!! you can't say he is the best in the league. They are a lot young players better than him now.

Noone disputes that Rivaldo has a great history and he was one of the best players in the world on the future. He is the player with the best history among players that play in Greek league, but we can't say that he has the best ability this moment among them. His help at Olympiakos is at set pieces and doing some technical things.

Rivaldo has announced he will retire at the end of the coming season.

The 34-year-old attacking midfielder won the World Cup in 2002, and has been playing for the last two seasons in the Greek Alpha Ethniki for Olympiakos.

He has added to his already glittering trophy cabinet over the last two terms with two Greek cups and two championships domestically, but has now told a sports paper in the country that he is ready to hang up his boots.

"I have already made up my mind. This is going to be my last season as a footballer. I want to finish my career with Olympiakos' shirt," he told Potathlitis.

"I want to do something great next season and then I will go to Brazil to get some rest, but I assure everyone that this doesn't mean that I am not going to try my best in my last season as a footballer of Olympiakos.

"I want to achieve something more with Olympiakos and I hope that the other players and I can make it. This is how I want to leave Olympiakos and the football fields."

Rivaldo started out as a professional at the age of 16 in 1989 with Santa Cruz, and he moved around Brazil before winning a transfer to Deportivo La Coruna in 1996.

He was named the World and European Footballer of the Year in 1999 when at Barcelona, and then won the UEFA Champions League with Milan in 2003 and make an impact on the European stage again last season.
