AC Milan's new Argentinian signing Fernando Redondo has had knee surgery which will keep him out of action for the next six months.
The midfielder captained Real Madrid to their Champions League win last May but moved to Milan two months ago in a transfer that brought Real fans onto the streets in protest.
His career in Italy has not stated well and he injured knee ligaments in a training ground accident during his first week of training after the transfer.
Redondo has missed all Milan's games so far after his £10 million arrival but the emergence of Francesco Coco this season for the Italian club has meant that the South American play maker has not been so badly missed.
Coco was called up yesterday by Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni for the 2002 World Cup qualifier in Milan on Saturday against Romania.
