Manager Arsene Wenger has dropped a hint that he may soon be extending his contract, news story below. Good news - even though I had every confidence in him to stay, it's nice to feel a little more assured.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has intimated he will sign a new contract.
Wenger has just one year left on his existing contract and asked if there would be any problems with signing a new contract at Highbury, he replied: "I don't think so. I have always been clear that I'm committed to the club and I don't think that will change. It's important for Patrick Viera to know that. There's no basic problem between Patrick and me. We have a good understanding and a good relationship."
Wenger added: "But he doesn't have to link his future with my future. He has to link his future with this club because he believes that is where he belongs and that is where he wants to win things."
Wenger also played down the possibility Portuguese midfielder Maniche would be moving to Highbury. "Have I looked at him? Not really, no. I was at the European Championships and I saw him play, but I knew about him before. You can ask Porto, I have never made an inquiry about Maniche. He is not the same type of player as Patrick. He's more of an all-round player, more offensive. He can play in all positions but he is not a player I have looked at to replace Patrick as I don't think I will have to replace Patrick."
