I post this statement because I think soccer is in danger of losing its beauty. Because:
1. Almost all new star attackers and attacking midfield players are (according to many people) either winers who constantly dive (Nedved, Deco), hotheads (Wayne Rooney, Alan Smith) or people who want to dribble too much and don't play effective (Cristiano Ronaldo, Seedorf). So many people don't have sympathy for them anymore.
2. Defenders in soccer have too many tools to eliminate top class attackers. They are protected by the refs (fouls, offside) and they can get a yellow or even red card without being afraid of the consequences for the scoreline (teams with ten men often win games).
I am really worried. :depressed

Nah I don't think so, there are many top-class strikers around, Ronaldo, Henry or Shevshenko, they score a lot of goals and they're not very hated, so there's no reason to worry.

You mentioned Henry. What did he do for France in WC 2002 and Euro 2004? :depressed

I DONT THINK THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN. NOBODY GOES TO THE STADIUMS TO SEE DEFENDERS PLAY. NOBODY WATCHES A GAME ON TV BECAUSE THEY HOPE TO SEE A TEAMS DEFENSE FOUL THE OTHER TEAMS PLAYERS. THE MOST POPULAR ATHLETES IN THE SPORT ARE ALL ATTACKING PLAYERS. THE MOST APPEALING ASPECT OF FOOTBALL IS THE ATTACK AND THE SPECTACULAR GOALS. PLAYERS LIKE RONALDO, ZIDANE, VAN NISTELROY, OR RONALDINHO ARE THE EMBASSADORS OF THE BEAUTIFUL GAME TO THE WORLD.
AS FAR AS YOUR SECOND POINT ABOUT DEFENDERS BEING PROTECTED BY REFEREES. I THINK IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND. IN THE PAST FIFA HAS CREATED MANY RULES TO PROTECT THE TALENTED PLAYERS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THESE ARE THE TRUE STARS OF THE GAME. FOR EXAMPLE THE BANNING OF TACKLES FROM BEHIND, AND THE CREATION OF THE PASSIVE OFFSIDE. THESE TWO RULES CLEARLY FAVOR ATTACKING PLAYERS.

Nothing, but he scored like 35 goals this season in Arsenal.
