New Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez says that Liverpool can challenge the 'big three' of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U this season for the Premiership title.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has claimed he wants to challenge for the title in his first season at Anfield. Benitez succeeded Gerard Houllier, with Liverpool without a title since 1990.
He said: "We need time but perhaps we have a surprise for the supporters. I am so excited by this. I see this as a big challenge for me and my staff. When I arrived at Valencia people said it was difficult to win the league but we did it. I won't say it will be the same here but I will fight hard."
He added: "The message to the fans is the same as to the players - we have to work hard and have the good mentality that there has always been at Liverpool. Then who knows what we can achieve? Last year they worked hard but we have to improve because we want to be at the top.
"We will do everything we can to build a competitive team that is determined to win every competition we enter. Obviously the Premiership and the Champions League are the priorities but how we compete in those depends on many things. The most important thing for us right now is to make sure we have the mentality to win."
It's a good attitude but I honestly don't think this will be their year. :dontcare:
