Ferguson is a pimp!
why buy Barthez? Bosnic is a great keeper and when he gave him a chance he did a great job, he is even giving up playing for Australia in the Olympics so that he can concentrate on playting for Man U and this ungreatfull pom pom goes and does something as stupid as this. I hope Barthez get injured just like Ruud!!!!

Come on man, Barthez is great news, the truth is in my opinion that Bosnich is not a world-class keeper but he will become one. Barthez can help us win the Champions League again.

Your right Fergie can't make up his mind but hey, he has got Barthez now and he know if he makes any more adjustments that there will be an uproar.

He probably should have spent that money ( now £8 million ) on a new striker.

After the fall of Ruud Van Nistelrooy I think ferguson has gone sour!

Hey it's just my opinion.

Barthez signs for United in £7.8m deal
By Andy Hooper

France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has signed joined Premiership champions Manchester United after a British record £7.8million transfer from Monaco.

The 1998 World Cup-winner has agreed a six-year deal and is seen by manager Sir Alex Ferguson as an ideal successor to Peter Schmeichel who left Old Trafford after lifting the European Cup a year ago.

Ferguson's dissatisfaction with the successors to the Denmark keeper was evident throughout the season's campaign with Mark Bosnich, Raimond van der Gouw and Massimo Taibi all failing to establish themselves as the number one choice.

But Ferguson is certain that Barthez is the man for the job. 'The first thing which attracted me to Fabien is that he's an outstanding keeper. But, after Peter Schmeichel, we needed a little bit more than that,' he said last week.

'Peter had a great presence and a wonderful personality which rubbed off on the rest of the team. Mark Bosnich and Raimond van der Gouw are both terrific keepers but neither has quite the personality which Schmeichel possessed.

'Fabien has that. He's a real character, bouncy and bubbly just like Schmeichel, and hopefully he's going to have a similar influence on the rest of the team.'
