Well...........for me personally this has been a really poor campaign. We haven't achieved anywhere near what I hoped for at the beginning of the season.

Players that always used to be so good like Javier haven't been up to their usual standards. Vieri wasn't as prolific in front of goal. Toldo made many blunders. Matrix beat people up. VDM threw a tantrum as did Vieri.

There were not many positives to come out of the season. Farinos' re-emergance made me happy and the winter captures of Adriano and Stankovic were a step in the right direction.

Sacking Cuper and hiring Zac who will now probably stay was a massive mistake (OMG i never thought I would say that!! ).

Anyway, I was left thinking who was our player of the season. I really don't know who it was.

My vote goes to Obafemi Martins. Last season, he made a few cameo appearances and won me over, but this season he's been really exceptional. Everytime he gets the ball these days, he does some magic. I won't forget that Bologna goal for a long long time...:D

I'm not talking about yesterday's Empoli match, but about the season in general. He's really matured a lot, and is ready for taking centre-stage. IMO, Martins, and not Adriano or Vieri, should be the focal point of our attack, because of his qualities.

And unlike Micheal Owen, it's not simply pace that characterises Martins. We've all seen the number of times he's taken on defenders and done a Ronaldo. Despite not being up there with the highest scorers, he's still my player of the season

I too went for Martins in the end and for exactly the same reasons as you Musiq.

Stankovic. A great buy and a terrific player. Although played for Inter in mid-season, hes been awesome! An important player for next season :smoking:

In all honesty, can we include Van der Meyde here? How many games has he played? And how many has he shone in? Just 2 or 3....

Nothing against VDM, he's still a great player, but by no means player of the season

There really is no Player of the Season.
We greatly underachieved.
The most improved to me is Martins, if that counts.
Scored some spectacular goals, and crucial ones like the last minute goal against Perugia.
However Adriano is a strong contender for this dubious honour, his strong performances and solo efforts towards the end of the season really pushed us in contention and eventual claimant for the 4th spot, one of the few highlight in this season.
However he couldn't help us in Europe and was here for only half the season so my vote goes to Martins
