LONDON (AFP) - Juan Sebastian Veron has reportedly asked Chelsea for a transfer and is seeking a return to Italy with Inter Milan after a season at Stamford Bridge that has cost his current employers a million pounds a match.

According to his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, Veron met Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon this week and asked to leave.

"He would love to return to Italy where he has his best memories as a player," Hidalgo was quoted as saying by the Guardian newspaper.

Veron established his reputation as one of the world's finest midfielders playing for Sampdoria, Parma and Lazio before joining United in 2001.

Inter have reportedly valued Veron at around eight million and could be ready to offer their want-away striker Christian Vieri in exchange.

Veron was quoted as saying he would love to play for Inter.

"They have many great players but they haven't managed to win anything for a long time - too long a time," he said.

"It would be an extra motivation for me to try and win at a club whose fans have been waiting so long for silverware."

Inter could be coached next season by Roberto Mancini, the current Lazio boss who played with Veron at both Sampdoria and Lazio.

What you guys think of Veron coming to Inter? I think it a great move by a former best midfielder in the world. He maybe a old-war-horse but his present would definately motivate the players especialiy the midfield players.

Veron is best known for his vocal and able to command the team well from the midfield.

Plus, maybe with his departure.. as reports have said it that Chelsea will reform its team and have said some players will be going out, this could mean that whetever Crespo will come back too! I miss him so much for his scoring ability. Its sad that he never did any Big impact in England and I think his place is truely in Italy with Inter.

Veron no and Crespo no...we don't need either of them. Veron is too old and way past his best...we need a terequista and Veron IS NOT a terequista just for the record. Crespo, yes we do miss him, but we don't need to add a third striker with a similar style to Vieri and Adriano..If we're to raid Chelsea we should move for one of these guys:

Terry
Gallas
Lampard
Mutu
Duff

NAh its true. JT isnt the kinda defender for Inter. Too foward that would be horriffic!! Other than that mayhep Lampard the choice. I agree because hes marvalous and Inter had been long monitored his performance all season. :smoking:

But i believe Veron still capable in giving something important for Inter. Its up to yer own thinking of what you think of him but for me he would make an impact here. Only when he play would he able to give what hes got.

GAllas? A Joke.

What a bout Makelele? would be very usefully as a defensive midfielder. :smoking:

CV32 and Pazza IMO you guys are completely wrong about John Terry he is a marvelous CB and would do great in Serie A. I do admit though I don't know quite why I put down Gallas.

Why would that be horrific?? It would add another dimension to team's attack. You don't like JT cause he's too forward minded, yet you prefer a defensive midfielder like Lampard who attacks more than the average DM does
As long as JT correctly times his run upfield, and isn't too ethusiastic he shouldn't be a liability to the backline.

JT is a solid CB, only thing I reckon he lacks is pace.

Lol, or even that kick he gave to Shevchenko's face. Remember the time when AC Milan put up a video of Materazzi's 'crimes' on their website in protest?? :D

I thought I'd die laughing when I saw those attacks!! :rolling: :D

I hope there's a chance for Veron to get back to his good days. he's still young, but injury hit.

Veron set for Inter

Chelsea’s Juan Sebastian Veron will today start talks with Inter in a bid to end his Premiership nightmare. Reports in Italy allege that the Argentine has arrived in the peninsula to discuss personal terms. With Champions’ League qualification now ensured, the Nerazzurri are already beginning work on next season’s team.

Veron’s agent last week claimed that his client has already held talks with the Stamford Bridge outfit where he requested a transfer.Inter have often been criticised for a lack of creativity in midfield, something that may be resolved if Veron is signed. The South American is likely to become the Nerazzurri’s third signing of the summer so far.

Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Cambiasso and Lazio left-back Giuseppe Favalli are both understood to have already agreed to San Siro switches. The pair will arrive on free transfers.

Not worried about his age, but remember this is a player who was 2nd only to Zidane in midfield a few years ago and now he's a washed beauty-queen like the ones you see in a school yearbook. It won't be that easy for him start where he left off in Serie A.

Yeah and depite what others may say after watching him many times I will stick to my judgement that he is not the terequista that we need.

i agree
but we should prepare for his arrival, the interest inter is showing in him is mounting. If it was me, I would sell all the useless players in our team like brechet etc, and break the bank for totti :D

Yes, we can hope....but it still won't happen I don't think. Milan are a lot more powerful than us and Lazio's financial state was a lot worse than Roma's is now. Also, Lazio only had 2 stars in Nesta and Crespo. Roma can offload Cassano, Emerson, Mancini, Samuel ( already gone), Chivu etc. all before they have to let go of Totti.

but if the offer was large enough then we could tempt them
eg 20 million plus Vieri

It COULD happen! :smoking: Capello have left Roma and 3 of their prominent players have been sold and we have heard Totti's enragement all week..

Of course Totti have said he would NEVER EVER play for any Italian club other than Roma as his way of honouring them, but the same goes with Capello.. said this one minute and something happen the next. Anyway, Vieri and Totti have had a great partnership together and recently Bobo praised Totti for that.. imagine Totti playing for Inter together with Bobo upfront :smoking: maybe after EURo he would realised how good it to play with Vieri at Inter. :D :smoking:

This way I see it if Totti-Veron would turn out to be in Inter squad:

-----------------------TOLDO

-------JZANETTI----CANNAVARO----MATERAZZI

--VDM--------VERON---------STANKOVIC----KILY

-----------------------TOTTI
--------------MARTINS--------VIERI

PAZZA INTER!!!

And i cant really see him playing in midfield either.. hes a pure stopper and that belong in defense. hes not playing central defense anyway.. i give that to Cannavaro without doubts. :smoking:

Wouldnt it be wise to sell cassano now rather than wait for free transfer? :dead: Roma can sell him at high price since he has turn out to be one of the stars in Italy these days.

BTW Roma still didnt able to bet Inter at San Siro! :ronaldo: and the defeat at Rome was during turbulant time for Inter if i recall that moment.

Cassano turn out to be the star in Euro sadly he cant show it more. Hes the likely player many clubs are after to coming this new serie a season.

adrianofan

Totti got himself suspended and then Cassano came in and made a name for himself... its just a shame that a young offensive talent like that was limited with such overly conservative tactics.... If Cassano can mature his mental aspect and keep his temper/rowdyness in check (He didn't flair up in Euro like Totti did but since Cassano is young, he does kind of go overboard sometimes.) than he will be better than Totti.

It was funny that a couple weeks or so, my dad said that Cassano was a wasted investment to Roma as he'd never be the guy to replace Totti when he gets old in a few years as he's too "immature and has a temperament." However, in Euro it was the 27/28 year old Totti that was being immature and not the 21 year old Cassano. :) quite a surprise.
