I can curve the ball to the left and right with ease, I can take powershots and keep the ball low. But how the hell, do you take the powershot that rockets upward, and then drastically dips near the goal (Ronaldo shoots like this all the time). Somebody please tell me how to do this, a kid who graduated a few a years before i was in highschool shot like this, I remember watching his games. His shots were amazing.

Thanks

I can do that, but how i do it, i am not sure. I'm left footed and fancy myself as a bit of a Roberto Carlos :D . I strike the bottom of the ball, follow through with the foot all the way, so it swings across the body and don't lean back. sorry i couldn't be more help

I'm a lefty too. I guess that you have to lift the ball instead of whacking it. Its actually reffered to as "chipping". Its not that hard to learn. You just need to practise.

think of it like hitting a tennis ball.. when u hit the ball try and hit it above the ball so it dips down. similar to how u curve the ball left and right but if ur able to get some "top spin" it will dip down and curve the desired direction... think of the ball is rotating at a high speed and when it flies through the air (at fairly high velocity) depending on how well u curled the ball, the air will travel past the ball faster on one side than the other (similar to how planes get lift from their wings). the side which the air pasts at a greater speed will influence the ball in that direction.

hope that helps.

I am right footed, most of the time when I take a shot the goalie just stands there thinking it is going to fly over the bar, only to later find himself humiliated when it hits the back of the net. When you shoot, put your non-kicking foot a little more ahead of the ball, make sure to keep you toes pointing away from your knee (as in how you would flex a calf muscle), keep your arms out for balance and try to hit the middle to top portion of the ball, you should land on your kicking foot. This is how I do it, keep practicing and you should get it in no time.

Middle to TOP? Funny, 'cos if I were to give an answer, I would have said the same thing as you, but with one exception, hit the bottom to middle of the ball, depending on the amount of distance you want your lob to cover. Lower for less distance, but higher lob, middle for more distance but smaller elevation.

I've once scored with a lob from about 25-28 metres from the goal. That's one of my best lobs to date. The keeper was way too far ahead of his line, and that punished him.

I dont think we are understanding each other here. I think your thinking about just a chip shot. I am thinking about when you shoot it hard and suddenly the ball just dips down all of a sudden.

Aah, yes, that's it. Well, I'm sorry in that case. I guess I'll try out what you said, and see if I can get the hang of it...

it matters how far u wanna hit it if u just wanna get it over a wall then u need to chip it my just going up to it the hit the bottom of the ball but dont follow through all the way i only go half way

but if its like just a free kick from like 30 or so yds from the goal i wanna hit it nice a smooth with a full follow through ball nice at the bottow will get u do do it

but if u shooting from like the 18 with no wall or anything u wanna hit it pritty hard dont lean back to far but no over the ball ither so like a lil slanted back strike the ball at the bottom then boom it should work

I agree with you. I made those shots several times and got scores... It comes practice and experiance in the game. I feel if the ball is in the air, you can make the top spin easier. Also you have to lean your body foward to add top spin.

if your foot is out and away from the knee, what part of your foot hits the ball? your toes?

I think it's mostly about the follow through.
