Because of the injuries to the two strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wesley Sonck, plus alternative striker Rafael van der Vaart also became injured, Ajax trainer Ronald Koeman has decided to buy a new striker as a temporary replacement.
His name is Yannis Anastasiou and he comes from Roda JC. He's 30 years old and and 1.85m tall.
He's been signed for 1.5 years, and his most succesful season in the Dutch league was 2000-2001 when he scored 19 league goals.
I personally find it odd that Koeman bought a new striker. Just last week he was quoted as saying that he was going to focus only on the youth teams to look for potential strikers that could be promoted, not look elsewhere. 17-year-old Ryan Babel from Ajax A1 even made his debut on Sunday against ADO Den Haag. I find it strange that Koeman still went ahead and bought a new striker, who has never been a real sensation or has stood out as a gifted striker in his four years in playing in Holland.
Ryan Babel entered the field on Sunday wearing number 39, I wonder if Anastasiou will get number 49
