Chivu delayed while Luciano moves
Chievo winger Luciano's agent has announced his Inter move will be completed tomorrow, but Christian Chivu talks grind to a halt.
"You won't get the official confirmation of this deal today," assured agent Andrea Petrin, "but there are no problems. Luciano will join Inter this week."
The 28-year-old Brazilian winger is the first major signing for the Nerazzurri and fits in perfectly with their transfer strategy.
Coach Hector Cuper had insisted on players who suit his favoured 4-4-2 system, and Luciano – formerly known as Eriberto – has been crucial to Chievo's success.
He hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons last season by admitting to using a false identity in order to shave four years off his age.
While one arrival is all but certain now, there has been a brusque halt in negotiations between Inter and Ajax.
"We are only in the initial stages of talks," claimed President Massimo Moratti.
"Chivu is of interest to us, as are other players at this moment in time."
The Nerazzurri were thought to be completing their move for Christian Chivu (pictured) today after agreeing personal terms with his agent on Tuesday.
Ioan Becali met with President Massimo Moratti to discuss the matter yesterday and Ajax seem willing to sell.
However, the move will cost Inter £10m and they are reportedly unhappy about spending this much money before some issues have been resolved within the existing squad.
The main problem is the proposed wage cuts which are being offered to players all over Serie A, but nobody at Inter has yet accepted this change of circumstance.
Moratti is also finding it difficult to off-load unwanted members of the team and bring in fresh funds.
It's a worrying report for the fans, as Inter's option on Chivu expires today. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Milan are also interested in the Romanian international's services.
Meanwhile, the official club website has confirmed the return of young midfielder Franco Semioli from his loan period at Vicenza.
Other co-ownership deals have been simply renewed, so Massimiliano Fusani remains at Perugia, while Brazilian hitman Adriano stays at Parma for another season.
