Observations, suggestions... and maybe some ranting [Archive]

I just joined this forum two days ago and I already see many things that are being done the wrong way. Let me just begin by saying that although i'm new to THIS board, i'm definately not to new to forums. I'm a member of about 10 other boards... all about different subjects, from soccer to gaming to computers and to Volvo. Also i'm in the process of starting my own board.

First, I was pleased to see the amount of members in the board but then as I started to post I noticed that many of the boards havent been touch in months! I dont understand how a forum with this many members can have such a thing. For example since i'm Peruvian I found and imediately started to post in the "Other Central and South American soccer" section. There, I found that the last 10 posts were posted months ago! I asked myself , how can that be??? with this many registered members???? As I kept posting more of the problems became very obvious as to why this was happening here.

Now let me get into the specifics of why this may be the problem and what can be done to solve this. For starters, there way way too many sections.. forums do not need to be divided into subjects this much. People get can get scared by this many sections. Thats why there might be 3800+ registered members but I bet that only %5 of those are active in the boards... maybe even less than that. This board doesnt have to be that big... there are better way to seperate different topics. This is also why many threads are started in the wrong sections... people get confused with so many sections that they dont even know where to post!

Now for a small rant - we have English soccer, Italian soccer, Spanish soccer .... but Slovenian soccer???? Is this that necessary??? This section takes up maybe about 20% of th boards! Not that there's anything wrong with Slovenian soccer but why a whole section devoted to this country when there many other leagues who might be alot more of importance. Who knows, maybe the owner of this board is Slovenian.
Another reason, I think, why we have this many registered members yet only 5% are active is because of two things (besides the one already stated above), becoming a registered member of this board is way to easy. We need to have some kind procedure in becoming a member of this board... because if we make it this easy we're gonna have a bunch of people that are somewhat or/and semi-interested in soccer that will join and then never come back. We need to implement "email registration." (many boards have this) What this means is that people need to submit their real email address and register via an email callback. We need to make it hard to register so that we can get real soccer fans.. not just passer bys. Also, this will help deter Spammers. The harder we make it to register, the less Spammers we'll have in the boards. I was disgusted on how Spammers were easily operating within the boards and nobody does anything about it!

As you can see, many of these problems exist but could be easily fixed and/or dealt with. Its just a matter of organization.

I agree that there are too many section at WSB. That's why I am combining different topics at International Club Competitions forum.

As far as Slovenians are concerned: much less than 5% of all members at WSB are active users but around 50% of these active users are Slovenians! I am a Slovenian. Majority of legends at WSB are Slovenians. As long as we have active Slovenian members (who comprise majority here) we will devote as much space to them as needed. OK?

The problem isn't because the board is too big, it's because the members are too lazy to post:silly:
The Slovenian board is one of the most active boards over WSB, there are many Slovenian members and they always keep the place active, plus they teach me Slovenian:D

Heh , well I didnt mean to make anybody upset, it was just an observation I made. I dont have anything against Slovenian soccer.. as a matter of fact I happen to like Zahovic ;) but I just didnt think it deserved all that much space for it, was just my opinion. Now if most of the active users on these boards are Slovenians then i'm all for the Slovenian section, anything to keep this board alive because I think it has alot potential. But if you have read my orginal post, it contains more than just the Slovenian thing.. it has alot more imporant facts that should be taken into consideration which to me is alot more important than this Slovenian thing.

So I hope, you as moderators will think about changing some things so that this board can become one of the best online and if there's anything I could do to help, i'd be more than happy to do so. :)

There are many reasons why people stop coming too a board, they can grow out the interest for the board or the sport, they can get time trouble.
Hell, they could all have been from Bagdad. :shocked:

Slovenia board is super active, close that and for sure people would leave.

I think the problem within this forum does not lie in the Slovenian forum, it is great we have so many Slovenians who keep the board active. But the problem in this forum is that there are too many quarrells and arguments which has caused many people to leave. One example is Mihajlovic or Goran, he was a great Laziale but he left due to some arguments.

You know what? Respect has to be earned and i'm very sorry to say, i can't respect people who come to every single thread and start fullfill it with provocations and insultings.
I've told you this already in many oportunities and you see what different people reply on your posts. If you want friends here, change your agressive style and try to fit yourself to the board-family. Don't expect, we all will do that for you, my friend.

Peruytu. On a board it's not important, if a country is tough in soccer or not, imo. As long as people want to talk about it, it has to be here. You have the choice to post, where you prefer and it's up to the others to respond or not. Depends on many things.
I'm personally following the tactic to write about matches I follow and about general things the average soccerfan is informed about. Still, i have fun here and can also pick up some knowledge, cause some members are like encyclopedias (guys, that's a compliment!). You will find it out by yourself reading around a lot. Enjoy it. ;)

I agree that some inactive boards could be dropped here but the Slovenes are an active minority of WSB & perhaps you should've found out for yourself before suggesting to drop those forums...

Again, i'm sorry about suggesting that the Slovenes shouldnt have that much space dedicated to them... I failed to notice how much they mean for these boards... so I do agree with you that the problems does not lie within them. And you're also right about the other thing... its maybe because of the arguments and quarrels that have kept many people away from these boards. Like i've said before, these boards do have alot of potential but unfortunately we have kids like ItalianBoy who nothing to say but insult people. I think the only solution for this lies within the admins and mods. We have to be more strict.. even if it means banning people. I know banning people is not the ultimate solution but at least it will let everybody know that people who like to create problems will not be tolerated.
Like I said in my previous posts, I'm a member of many other forums and I see how admins and mods do not tolerate anything... thus making the boards a much better place to express your opinions and knowledge of the topics at hand.

Hate is a strong word, a word that should be used very carefuly so you shouldn't feel hated on because nobody really knows you enough to hate you here.. if anything people might look at your ignorance and point it out.. but it doesnt mean we hate you.
People see it how it is and fortunately every sees how you are... maybe you should stop and think before posting, you might actually see it for yourself sometime. Unfortunately for you , you see one "truth" and everybody sees another. Don't you see that there's something wrong here... do you really think that you're the only one of all these people that is right?? Think about it kid.

You should also think about posting things relating to soccer instead of trying to insult people by trying to make your point, but even with that you come short. Really look at your posts and use that edit button as much as possible, remember, that edit button is your friend. ;)
