Lazio’s Champions’ League spot is now at risk and Empoli plan to take full advantage of their troubles on home turf.
Roberto Mancini’s men remain unbeaten on their travels this season, but their record at the Stadio Olimpico is extremely poor for a title contender. Three wins, seven draws and two defeats give an accurate picture of their difficulties in the capital.
The 1-1 derby draw with Roma last week was a case in point, as despite dominating much of the play they failed to kill the game off and were punished by a late Antonio Cassano equaliser. The goalscorer was also sent off, so Dejan Stankovic is suspended and replaced by Fabio Liverani. Sinisa Mihajlovic is also in doubt with bruised ribs.
Empoli started the season with an away record that almost rivalled that of Lazio, but they have since faltered and slipped back into the danger zone. The 3-1 victory over Piacenza last week has boosted morale and given the Tuscans a greater buffer between themselves and the bottom four, but the on-going absence of Antonio Di Natale is a worry.
The latest knee injury will still keep the Italian international sidelined, but Under-21 star Marco Borriello finally broke his goal duck last Sunday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lazio: (Probable) Peruzzi; Stam, Negro, Mihajlovic, Favalli; Fiore, Giannichedda, Liverani, Cesar; Corradi, Lopez
Empoli: (Probable) Berti; Belleri, Cribari, Lucchini, Cupi; Grella, Giampieretti; Busce’, Cappellini, Rocchi; Borriello

If we keep on losing point , Soon Juventus will be out of reach . nothing less than 3 point is accepted. and when is the 2nd leg of coppa ? need to kick their ass to keep ourselves up

Following the win against Besiktas, I am sure our morale is boosted and can get a challenge against Empoli as well as the 3 crucial points. Milan has slipped and hopefully Inter will slip too, that will put us in a much better situation to get as high as possible.

Good news from this afternoon, Chievo has lost 0-4 in Verona to Parma, a chance for Lazio to extend our lead for the final CL place.

Mancini is going to play 3 strikers but whether it would be Chiesa or Inzaghi as the additional striker remains to be seen. This would be a good chance to see Inzaghi start again. Parma thrashed Chievo 4-0 and we must take advantage of that and increase our lead in 4th spot to 4 points, that will put Chievo in a harder spot to gain the last CL spot from us.

Don't get too cocky, things might change and who knows you might be languishing in 4th spot in the near future.

Wonderful, yet another disallowed goal. As far as I can tell the linesman determined the ball went out on the cross before curling back in??

Now it's 2-1, Corradi from a beautiful assist by Claudio.

Wonderful game so far but lets kill Empoli off in the 2nd half with more goals.

Well Castroman added a late one. 4-1 to Lazio, marvellous result although it really should have been 7-1, a Fiore goal disallowed, a Lopez one on one and a Fiore shot. It was a marvellous result nonetheless and I am very pleased.

I'm extremely pleased myself, no doubt Empoli played a competitive match by their standards, the final scoreline notwithstanding :D & that well-taken free in the opening minutes was a stunner. (although the replay clearly shows Oddo heading an own goal) But Lazio was irresistable today. Deki's suspension was not an issue & having a few rested players for the mid-week trip to Turkey is quite a luxury at this point in the season.
Not only did we get a bit of breathing room from the flying donkeys but an 8 point turn-around in goal differential, that could be huge in the final giornati. Alas the Curva Nord looked deserted with the Irriducibili protesting the arrests of IR boys in Verona, but they missed quite a performance this evening!

Roberto Mancini had every reason to complain again against the referee after the victory against Empoli. When the match still was on the result of 1-1 Lazio had a great goal by Fiore, wrongly disallowed, and many of the offsides blown by the referee, was afterwards showed to be wrong.
Mancini: "We won and that was very important but the referee and his assistans made several big mistakes. It was a shame that Fiore's goal was disallowed, he made a splendid goal. "

Bravo LAZIO i'm very happy for our players and result, but i don't know what happened with referees and assistans first against Roma and yesterday against Empoli.

I can only say WOW!!!
What a game! There's no team in Italy playing as entertaining and beautiful football as our Lazio. We should never let Mancini leave! And for once our strikers didn't waste all their chances.
I must say Liverani was passing the ball to the opponents all the time but even that didn't stop this team.
We have a great argentine trio ;)
