Bayern munich colours

Does anybody know wheter or not there is any significance attached to bayern's colours and/or crest? i need to know this urgently for a school project

The white-and-blue rhombi (rhombusses??) in the middle of the Bayern crest are taken from the old Bavarian noblity (Wittelsbacher) and till today are part of the Seal of the Free State of Bavaria and its flag.
The colors I think represent, the part of of town they're from but don't take that for true, cause I am not sure.
