Yep, we were crap. The Aussies fully deserved their win
Totally agree about Neville. The fact that he got murdered by Lazaridis says it all

Well Brasil drew 0-0 with China, so I suppose that makes China better/equal to the World Champions?

And the Czech Republic beat France 2-0, so does that make them better than France?

TooKewell why have you come here seemingly deliberately to wind us up? Not once have we made an excuse and we've even said well played to you but you continue to be a typical big headed Aussie know all :( What's the point?

Yes! That's actually not the best of examples, because I would deem the Czechs a lot better, than Western European football fans give them credit, they have not lost in the last eleven games, they are more than the sum of their parts, they are more of a team than most European sides. Of course, France has the better players, but actually the Czechs I think have the better team. Personally, I also think France is in decline, they didn't defend their title in Japan and they won't defend their title in Portugal.
P.S.: However, I would not go so far as to credit Australia with the same. However, I think they are better than some here have commented.

Of course he's trying to wind youse up! Which self-respecting Aussie wouldn't take this wonderful opportunity to bash you lot (again)??? :p Go Aussie!!! :D
Anyway, good game. I reckon the result would've been different if Scholes' goal had counted (and to be fair, it should've) and brought the match to 1-1. Lazaridis did a good job pegging Beckham back and ripping through Neville.
And yes, we know what friendly means. But we also know what it means to beat you guys, bragging rights til the next time! :D:D

lol i forgot about scholes perfectly good goal gettin disallowed but whats done is done and what effect on the match that goal would have had is unknown.
let me just say this tho.
if we had won we wouldnt have all gone to an australian supporters section of a footballing site and rubbed it in like you have.
sure we rub in our wins against teams like argentina and germany but thats a rivalry.
england and australia are supposed to be mates the last time i checked.

lampo: i doubt it, i expect they think they're world champs now.
FloZi, yeh Czechs are a good side, France are on the decline, i think they well and truely underestmated their opponents in japan.

Nah, politically and historically, Australia is loyal to the mother country (and more so to big brother the US). but when it comes to sport mention England and we want blood!
And unfortunately, I think Flukey's right. Most of the less knowledgeable sporting fans here will probably think we're the kings of football now, sure we got bragging rights but what the public and the media will make it out to be will be ridiculous.....

I predicted an Aussie win. They have good players, a team ethic, and should have been at the world cup! England have a losing mentality in almost all sports - can't pinpoint what it is - but just cannot rise to the occasion for some reason. Here are the big losers from last night.
Sven - Clueless in international football - has different rules for different players. Won't play Macca cos he's not playing for real - then picks reserve team players like Jeffers and Upson. Liked his spunk in looking at new players - but his faith in the "first team" is sickening. They're the ones that lost the game and will blow the Euro qualifying for us.
James - Simply not good enough! Rooted to his line, uncommanding, and vastly inferior to Robinson and Kirkland. The fact that he is called up after a terrible season is unfair to other players.
Neville - Enough! Overrated completely - underperforms for England and gets caught frequently. Love afair with Beckham is becoming nausiating.
Cole - Unfit and should not have started
Cambell and Ferdinand - Need to spend some time on the pine and watch Brown, Terry, and Woodgate for a while. Awfull performance!
Beckham - Mr. Bunny-hop needs to be dropped for a while - so we can see Jenas on the right. His automatic selection is a farce!
Lampard - What the hell happened - this was your big chance and you blew it!
Dyer - Next! His time on the left is up. Lets see Barry, Cole, Thompson, or anyone else!
Owen - completely ruined by Houllier! Forgotten how to pounce and needs some time on the bench watching Rooney and Beattie.
Scholes and Beattie escape my wrath. Beattie played with a bunch of careless primadonnas and deserves another chance
The "second" team outplayed the first - and should all be considered ahead of the others for the next game. Why couldn't Sven give Cole some time on the left? What happened to Parker and Davis - they will probably not get another chance now!
Bloody awfull England!!!! On this display, I think we might be out of the Euro championships!!! But Sven's not worried - Barca are waiting!

too many threads on the same topic so not sure where best place to post is but anyway here goes....
first of all lets congratulate australia for a great win, coming with a plan, decent tactics and getting their star players to perform. as for england.....
first half analysis
VERY GOOD
- none
AVERAGE
- james - did ok but the time has come for robinson to take over
- cole - always available and in position, but very isolated
- campbell - solid
- beckham - has the ball too much thus we become predictable, too many long balls
- dyer - should some decent touches and skill, id still play joe cole out there though
- beattie - worked hard but got ZERO support
POOR
- neville - did some decent defending but also some shocking defending, mistake led to goal, too slow, only passes to beckham and if beckham isnt available then hits aimless long balls - for a player of his ability he is involved in the game far too much
- rio - very poor but has been all season largely due to injuries, he'll be back
- lampard - very poor but not helped by team tactics
- scholes - not his fault but the tactics DO NOT suit him, there is simply no point playing him if we play the long ball game, dont allow him to get forward and dont play a decent hardman alongside him. there are countless players we could ask to do the role he plays and would do it better. like i say not his fault, its the system that sucks
owen - loss of form and confidence but will come through (houllier has a lot to answer for)
tactics - they SUCK!! we cant keep the ball for long periods of time, we have no midfield creativity, we hit too many long balls, too much goes down the right, not enough movment off the ball, noone making themselves available, too predictable, no teamwork, noone holding the ball up, noone defending set pieces - basically the only way ever get a result is if beckham has one of his psycho godlike games and owen puts the chances away. basically sven is a tactical moron
second half
VERY GOOD
- robinson - decent display, one outstanding save, good command of penalty box, goal not his fault WHY ISNT HE FIRST CHOICE???
- mills - impresses every time, defends well, distributes the ball well, shows good leadership and teamwork abilities. WHY ISNT HE FIRST CHOICE???
- brown - not been impressed with him on previous displays but he was solid last night. hopefully that will be the rocket up the arse rio needs
- jenas - MOTM - gave an almost psycho godlike beckham peformance but not quite, plus could burn 90mins of energy in 45mins - did everything a player like scholes should be doing
- hargreaves - excellent display - did everything a player like scholes should be doing
- vassell - never had a bad game for england, used his pace well unlike owen
- jeffers - held ball up well, layed it off well, had one chance, put it away, fox in the box (will probably be dropped back to U-21s when heskey returns  )
- rooney - worked his ass off same as JJ, held ball up well, layed it off well, distributed it well, totally unfazed, unlucky that rocket shot that was going in was deflected wide - needs some tactical help (from moyes NOT sven) on when NOT to shoot from distance ie. when you are stationary and have three players surounding you, but hes so inesperienced that he will learn
AVERAGE
- konchesky - solid performance as always
- king - did ok but not great, still lots to learn but is nowhere near first choice so not really an issue
- murphy - not fit, did a lot of unsung work covering the gaps left by JJ and hargreaves when they went all over the place
POOR
- none
tactics - what tactics? sven probably just said go out and show us what you can do. see what happens when he doesnt brainwash them with medieval tactics? we play well! it was almost like total football in the midfield.
but like i said before, what does it matter? these players will NOT be playing against liechtenstein and turkey (except maybe rooney as a sub) unless there is a major injury crisis. id rather get the tactics of the first XI right than see youngsters prove they are good enough to play.
joe cole - does sven really hate this guy or what? should be in the first XI. if sven wasnt going to play him he should have been in the U21s (same with upson, davis etc)
few players to come back to 1st XI though (woodgate, gerrard and smith), but i maintain that its not the players its the GOD AWFUL TACTICS that are too blame. and to think we have that idiot peskey to come back as well (if it wasnt bad enough already!)
if sven cant decide to change his tactics he needs to be replaced and he needs to make that decision soon before it costs us euro2004

Good analysis - the substitutions weren't the big factor everyone said they'd be. The bloody first team lost the game! Some of those players - Becks included - should be dropped!

Winners and losers:
David James v Paul Robinson
Paul Robinson
Robinson: England's number one?
Robinson finally got the chance to prove he deserves the England gloves, despite his relative inexperience.
James made some good stops but some poor decisions in the first half.
Robinson was solid, albeit under less pressure in the second half.
Verdict:Robinson. The first of many caps for Leeds' bright young talent.
Gary Neville v Danny Mills
Gary Neville
Neville loses out to Popovic
Neville was keen to make the most of his 55th cap in his first international since April last year.
Found wanting for the opening goal and forward raids were restricted.
Mills was solid and dependable but equally frustrated going forward. That frustration began to get the better of him late on.
Verdict: Neville stumbles on as first-choice right-back.
Sol Campbell v Wes Brown
Wes Brown
Brown: Composed at the back
Campbell looked surprisingly lost in a tatty first-half defensive display. Also wasted one of England's better goalscoring opportunities.
Brown was composed and comfortable but did not have Harry Kewell to contend with for long.
Verdict: Brown's assurance a major boost.
Rio Ferdinand v Ledley King
Rio Ferdinand challenges Australia's Harry Kewell
Ferdinand loses out to Kewell
Ferdinand was badly exposed by Kewell for the second goal and failed to organise his defence in his former Upton Park home.
But King hardly looks like a future replacement and was lost on the big stage. At fault for Australia's killer third goal.
Verdict: Ferdinand still the boss.
Ashley Cole v Paul Konchesky
Paul Konchesky
Konchesky: Promising debut
Cole probably could have done with a rest following his niggling hernia problem. England's first-half format required him to overlap constantly but the Arsenal man struggled to get forward.
Konchesky looked confident on his debut and got forward well, but he is unlikely to pose an immediate threat to Cole or Wayne Bridge.
Verdict: Wayne Bridge was the big winner here.
David Beckham v Danny Murphy
David Beckham
Beckham: Tried to pull the strings
Beckham tried hard to pull the strings in the first half, but there were too many loose ends for even the England captain to handle.
Murphy has been Liverpool's most consistent performer this season and has a continued England future, but struggled to stamp his mark on this friendly.
Verdict: Captain's honours, even on an off day.
Paul Scholes v Jermaine Jenas
Jermaine Jenas
Jenas: Sparkled on England debut
Scholes was his usual buzzing self and chipped away at the Aussie defence with some neat passes. Also had a goal harshly disallowed for a foul by James Beattie.
But even Scholes was outshone by Jenas after the break as the young Newcastle midfielder continued his rapid rise this season.
The pick of the new boys - and probably of the senior pack as well.
Verdict: Jenas takes the honours.
Frank Lampard v Owen Hargreaves
Frank Lampard
Lampard: Froze under England spotlight
Lampard has been one of the Premiership's outstanding midfield talents this season, not that you would have guessed on Wednesday.
Lost cheap possession and looked out-of-sorts.
Hargreaves was better, but missed the chance to display real international pedigree.
Verdict: No score draw
Kieron Dyer v Darius Vassell
Kieron Dyer
Dyer: May still hold the key
Tough contest to call as the two played different roles either side of half-time.
Dyer did his best to suggest he can solve England's left-sided conundrum but had little joy despite constant probing.
Vassell injected some life behind the front two in the second half but blew hot and cold as the game slipped out of England's reach.
Verdict: Dyer gets a second chance
James Beattie v Francis Jeffers
Francis Jeffers
Jeffers: Consolation goal in second half
Beattie took his chance well on his England debut and was a good foil for Michael Owen.
Posed an aerial threat and showed some nice touches on the floor, but barely had a sight of goal.
Jeffers transferred his impressive goalscoring habit for England Under-21s onto the senior stage with a superb header to give the young second half side hope.
Verdict: Jeffers edges it, 1-0.
Michael Owen v Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney
Rooney: Real promise for the future
An abject international display was the last thing Owen needed, given his current crisis of confidence. Was busy up front but gave further evidence that his goalscoring touch has dramatically deserted him.
Rooney became England's youngest-ever player and his senior cap will be the first of many.
At times, his enthusiasm had him crashing around like a bull in a china shop but the chaos he caused was enough to hint he can make the step up to senior level for his country, as he has with his club.

Hey from Oz, A bit late I know but it was a great win!!! I was looking forward to that match for ages and it was better than i'd expected. Harry was outstanding (he did it palace too!!!) as were most of the team.
Just to the England supporters. Apart from making the world cup once that was probably the best it's been for australian football. I think that's why so many Aussies are gloating and milking it for what it's worth. But I doubt anyone who knows the game actually believes that we are better than england or up there with the best from one game!!! If they do believe it then they don't know football...
But Australia aren't as bad as our ranking indicates. 50th is pretty low, our neighbours New Zealand are ahead of us!!! We are a lot better than them at full strength but the problem is australia hardly ever play internationals. soccer australia are looking to possibly chelsea to play 'home' matches and there has apparently been a lot of association including france who are now interested in playing the socceroos.
Also, Oceania has an automatic WC berth which Australia are raging favourites to win (the qualifiers i mean lol). I think what a lot of people and particularly the players want is some respect. we aren't the footballing minnows that we are protrayed as and on our day we've shown we can match it with some of the best in the world (brazil, france and now England).
So yeah, anyways... GO AUSTRALIA! :)

Not at all. Aus should have qualified for Japorea - and have a great team. I for one predicted them to upset England, who are out of sorts at the moment. Teamwork won the day - England don't have any!
