Man I hope that the USA not only continues to do better in football but also every other nation. Great to see more African nations doing better, the improvements of Turkey, Uruguay back into the WC.

I would think that the NFL and MLB have better ways to transfer player than currently in Europe (no club tranfer fees, the player actually make the money, not the clubs). But that is another topic altogether.

No soccer won't be huge in the states, because corporate america doesn't like it.

It has got to be the worst sport for advertising, even worse than hockey. They would have to change the game for advertising for it to be as profitable the other major sports leagues. Besides, they have enough sports going on that are way better for advertisers.

They don't need or want soccer. Why do you think many americans think it's a women's game?

Sure, soccer will grow, but it will never challenge Europe.

I think your fears can be put to rest people. America will never challenge Europe well atleast not in my life time. The mention of the name Soccer evokes laughter in America. I have visited once and on mentioning my involvement in soccer many guys burst out laughing. Majority of them dont even consider it a sport. The MLS is a joke right now. When i asked about the players the only name some of the locals could give me was Ham, the woman on the NT team, which i think is a little sad.
The fact that american soccer is symbolized by a woman in that country could be a reason why it is not respected. It is left to the women. Another interesting term is 'soccer moms' Children who play soccer are supported by their moms because their fathers are too busy watching the so called real sports. This is what i observed in my time there and i am not saying that all americans think that way but they were alot of them. I didnt meet one soccer fan! except for a few mexicans.
By the american NT becoming active hopefully their perception will change. It is a good thing for them to come in so hopefully one day football will be a Universal language.

People know that eventualy the US will be the best if not one of the best in the world... there's not doubt in my mind about this. US has everything it needs to become the best in the world - money. We also have alot more kids playing the sport mainly because we have so many immigrants (like myself) who love the sport. We also have a league (MLS) thats making all this possible. Do you think any poor country can have their soccer teams go to Argentina, Portugal, Italy, etc and play local teams for pre-season preparation???? Well of course not, only the US is capable of that.. even as little as the MLS may be, we're still doing well over South American and European teams. (btw, GO METROSTARS!)

So many of you people need to accept the fact that the US will eventuanly be the best... live with, deal with it and if you cant go find another sport to follow. And dont be surprised if the US dominates (like Brazil has done) and wins the World Cup 20-30 years from now.

a) didn't get asked

b) didn't make the team

ill be honest, I dont know much about soccer. i played high school ball, watch the soccer games on tv (especially the world cup), and enjoy soccer. I love golf, basketball, baseball, and football more than i do soccer but that doesnt mean i dislike soccer. If anyone can honestly say that USA will not get better in the future is lying. Who knows in might be 10 years or 20 years. The last World Cup really connected with the some sports fans and even if they don't know a whole lot they are going to want to win. I just find it great that everyone feels threaten by the USA. I dont know anyone here who feels that we are taking over the sport or anything like that.

This is what I am goign against. Yes the USA, might becomning better in the future, but they are not a threat to anyone.
There are no "threats" in soccer.

Alright, I was browsing through these posts and I had to say something. Im telling you all off the bat that I am an American (USA).(I'll refer to football as soccer, as I'm from USA, and we refer to it as soccer) I see no huge differences between me, and many of you that talk on here, except for where I am from. We all love the sport of soccer (football), and I dont think anybody from Europe, Africa, South America, or any other country should worry about the USA taking over the sport of soccer. Have any of you see the mass hysteria that goes on here for the Super Bowl?! American football is 100 times bigger than soccer here. I dont think if you gave it even 100 years, that soccer would compare to football here. I mean, yes, soccer is growing more and more each year here, but so does football. Football is a tradition here, much like soccer is in any other country. What I'm getting at here is that there is NO worry in soccer being "overtaken" by us Americans. I'm also very sorry over the image we Americans now have. Most people from other countries see us as racist, money-hungry, controlling animals. And obviously, a large portion of us (cough cough, George W. Bush, cough, cough) are like that. I just hope that all of us on here can unite as soccer fans, and put aside all of the racial slurs and stereotypical comments, and talk about the game. I dont want this site to turn into a place where all people do is bash on other countries. We should talk on here, not trying to argue and represent our countries negatively, but to represent the game of soccer, the greatest game in the world. Peace gkeeper
