I was just curious to ask this question and see the various opinions on the following issue from Scottish football fans- what's in store for the future? Specifically, Rangers + Celtic fans what do you think about your club's sole domination of the game in the country? As for Non-Ranger/Celtic fans out there, what is to be done to raise the level of your games to the standard of the Glasgow giants? In addition, why are the Glasgow giants failing to impress anyone in Europe, with the exception of Celtic's great victory over Blackburn. Their next game vs. Stuttgart seems to be easy on paper, but away games have always proved to be one of the most difficult obstacles a team could face - take a look at Arsenal's away matches in the CL last season, heck they even lost to Majorca, and we're talking DOUBLE winners here!

Basically my main concern is, are the majority of Scottish fans happy with the current situation?

On the NT front, what do you all think of Berti Vogts? Will he be able to rediscover the new Duncan Fergusons, Christian Daillys and Ally McCoists?

I'd really like to hear your feedback on these issues. As for me, I'm a Juventus + Italy fan since 1990. As an outsider, and an admirer of the beautiful game, I posed the above question.

Cheers

that mallorca game on september the 11th was very strange - don't think the players really wanted to be playing that day-

and the first thing the ref did was send off ashley cole!

Would you like to provide me with more excuses on how Arsenal lost its other away matches? How 'bout Shakhtar Donetsk? Juventus? True you outclassed us at Highbury, but you had a full strength squad in turin- ok so the result was insignificant since mathematically Depor + Bayer had sealed qualification (that's the excuse most Arsenal fans have given me).

Anyways I was just giving an example of how even STRONG teams like Arsenal (who were eventual DOUBLE winners) found difficulty playing abroad.
So chill dude, I wasn't dissing your team- as I should be the last one to do so after that dazzling 3-1 victory over Juventus at Highbury like I mentioned earlier.

Now, lets stick to the Scottish footy topic please. Do you follow any of the Scottish leagues yourself? Re-read the 1st post (if u want) and gimme your feedback.

I didnt quite understand your following post, though:

Do I really like in Lebanon? Was that a typo for live? or did you wanna ask if I really like Lebanon? In any case, the answer to both questions is YES- what is so outrageous about that, may I ask? Enlighten me please on 'possil park estate and RUCK-HAZY'. I'm afraid I'm not used to your local jargon or whatever...

sorry m8 silly post (meant to be 'live' btw)
the places I mentioned are areas in Glasgow where I used to live
- I was at the (empty) deli alpi when Juve reserves beat us (TH had a pen saved)
what shafted us was Depor playing their reserves against Bay L (but they wouldn't have had that option if we had beat them at Highbury - Th failed to score from the spot in that game too)

Rangers and Celtic always win the league - thats always been the case - but other teams frequently came second which hasn't happened for a long time.
wot scottish fitba needs is an edinboro or aberdeen renaissance to challenge the boring old firm

Watched/listened to the (massively overhyped) final SPL games on Sunday. It just made me think "What the heck is the point of Scottish football at club level?" when you KNOW at the start of the season that either Rangers or Celtic will be champions, with the other team in 2nd. I mean, I know that you can have freak 5-1, 6-0,7-1, results every so often in any league, but Rangers and Celtic do this sort of thing frequently. What can be done to improve the chance of ANY team (even my team, which is Kilmarnock-don't ask-too boring a story!) EVER winning the SPL again?

don't dispair
Real Sociedad could still win la liga
which would be a huge shock
and the flying donkeys of chievo on theri tiny budget have again finished above some of serieA's big spending super powers
it is disapointing the way no scottish team has even pushed the losing old firm team out of second spot for a long time
a smaller scottish team simply needs a great managfer like denoiuex or Ferguson for that matter - aberdeen where, breifly, one of europes best sides

Only just read this thread as i'm relatively new on the site. Can't believe that an arsenal fan called the old firm boring. When celtic and us play each other the whole of britain, sorry, europe takes an interest in it. Also we know its a 2 team league so please stop going on about it. What you may want to address is the state of the EPL. For a country ten times the size of scotland and with a top division of 20 teams only 3 of them, arsenal manu and chelsea, have a decent chance of winning it. And u call the SPL pathetic?

Blackwargreymon
05-02-2004, 01:14 AM
Both are pathetic, but the Scottish one is truly pathetic. Even rejected losers like frank de Boer apparantly shine in that league.
And Rangers - Celtic is the same hard-out, try-hard shit every year, kick n' rush to the max. I'd rather see Barca - Real or Milan - Inter.

Hmmmmmm. New to this site and thought I would post a reply as the league seams to be a lot more competitive this year with the Romanov Revolution catapulting the mighty HMFC into championship contenders and Mowbray turning Hibs into what is probably the finest conveyor belt of young talent in Scotland. Plus, Big Eck seems intent on destroying the once proud RFC into a joke. David Murray has to sack him instead of this stay of execution he keeps granting him.

I wish the SPL would be more competitive. A two team league is stupid and boring.

yeh Aberdeen have a chance this year.
And Romanov is saying that if Hearts lose against St Mirren then he is going to sell all of the Hearts players and then sell Tyncastle for flats.

Personally i think that Romanov is a ***king twat

Doubt it. Just another of Mad Vlad's ever more outlandish statements. He's here for the long haul and if he just kept out of team affairs we'd be fine. Valdas is back and I firmly believe he's the man to get us back on track.

The league is over this season and all that remains is for Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Rangers to try and build for next season.

I can't believe it's November and I'm saying that already. God, this is depressing...

I don't remember any Portuguese players in Scottish football except Cadete. He used to play for Celtic. Does anyone remember him?

normthebarman

Cadette wasn't too bad, decent goalscorer, but fell victim to the Fergus McCann era at Parkhead when decent players, who wanted a wage rise, got told to, in the politest manner possible, f**k off!!

At the moment though, there are a couple of decent Portuguese at Hearts, and we just got rid of another one as well.

Bruno Aguair is doing well in the Hearts midfield, favoured by the management over fans favourite, the Frenchman Julien Brellier. Personally, I like Bruno and he's got a decent freekick on him.

Unfortunately, Thiago Costa didn't fit in quite as well at right back, struggling to addapt to the Scottish game and was released just before Christmas.

The young Portuguese defender Jose Goncalves, however, seems to have adapted a lot better in the SPL and is definifely one for the future.

I also think Mauricio Pinilla is on loan from a Portuguese club (Sporting Lisbon if I'm correct, although I think it's one of those joint ownership things with Inter) and, although obviously a great talent, has spent most of this season injured.

 I guess at the time, raises weren't something you should ask for.

Portuguese television once showed this short program on Cadete during his stay at Scotland. They even showed him in a kilt.

I remember Cadete saying he enjoyed his time in Scotland.

I didn't know that Bruno Aguair was at Hearts. I remember seeing him play or Benfica.

One more player at Tynecastle who has a connection with clubs in Portugal is the gian strike, Edgaras Jankauskas. Although injured for a large part of this season, last year I thought that big Janny was fantastic.

Didn't score too many goals, but his hold up play was second to none.

Yeah, I agree. He was a very practical and precise player.

These players manage to play in a number of teams during their careers. It's cool to play in different leagues.

They do indeed. Hearts have sold more than 30,000 tickets so far.

They are also training and staying in St Andrews which is where I'm based. Unfortunately, I'm unlikely to see any of them as Ronaldinho and co don't seem like the kind of players to go on a pub crawl and get blootered....
