hell, one season i had van nistelrooy score 84 by himself! i played him up front alone, but he's worked well with djibril cisse

Well in club wise, I don't know as I keep rotating them and never stick to 2.
But for the Azzuri I have 2 great partnerships but also with their playmaker.
In the first half I put Pirlo as playmaker with Montella & Vieri upfront and both Vieri & Montella score 2 goals each, with Pirlo scoring one.
In the second half I substitute those 3 and I put Inzaghi & DP upfront with Totti as playmaker, both Inzaghi and DP score 2 goals with Totti scoring one aswell, and Zambrotta always scores goals for me.:D

Also I thought Vieri and Saviola did pretty well. I only had them togather for one season and not very often but in about 40 matches those two bagged 67 goals. Just wonder what it would've been like if Vieri wasn't always injured and unhappy.

strange thing, I got Del Piero, Vieri, Sheva, Batistuta, Montela, Saviola, Ronaldo & Zlatan and my top scorer is Veron!:silly:

Yeah the same thing happens to me!My strikers are Montella,Batistuta,Berbatov,Crespo,van Nistelrooy and Vieri but the player who scores almost all the goals for me is Veron!

Zambrotta is just another goal scorer for me, but with Italy, he scores so many goals for the Azzuri and he just scores 1-3 for Juve!:( :mad:

I liked the demo, and it ran well in my comp!

The interface is a bit too cumbersome, I prefer the old Champman interface, and "spy reports" on other teams have to improve (and they´ll very likely will). But anyways the game is good :D

Van Fessem is great!

You will best start at attacking 4-4-2, than rotate halfway the season a bit, cause Vitesse will start too screw up.

I played with this line up:

GK - Van Fessem
DL - Van Hintum
DC - Dejan Stefanovic
DC - Marian Zeman
DR - Van der Schaaf (Cornelisse is always crap in my save games)
ML - Didier Martel
MC - Michel Kreek
MC - Mahamadou Diarra
MR - Tijani Babangida, sometimes Victor Sikora
FC - Bob Peeters
FC - Amoah/Zongo rotating, mostly Zongo

Make sure you inmediately check the players who will be without contract at the end of the year.
These I can recommend and are often in the last year of contract, although you will have too check their performance stats ofcourse:

Van der doelen: Central midfielder
Broerse: Central left defender/midfielder (normally a great purchase)
Tumba: Striker, can be great but has very high salary demands, since you might have figured out by now, Vitesse is financially no Barca you will have too be carefull.
Salmon: Striker, can be great check his profile stats and his season stats.
Denneboom: Is difficult check well and you will need luck too get him.
Babangida: Is on loan now with Vitesse, if his contract expires, get him.

Also possible targets are: Schreuder, Hoogendorp, Ali El Khattabi, De Nooijer (Gerard I think the DLC) and Radomski.

Make sure you try and get a solid defender in, since Zeman isn`t often good and Van Hintum will get a form crisis.

Also transfer list players too strenghten your squad.
It is very difficult too get them playing well since you don`t have too expect a lot of cash coming in, only if they buy Kreek and Van Fessem away.
No matter what, try too keep Diarra as long as possible.
Would recommend also too make sure you have Stefanovic and Peeters under longer contracts, their demands rise with the season and sometimes they want a new challenge, especially Peeters.

Will be very difficult too get good results, but good luck.
Did you already buy a player?
Oh and give Janssen playing time now and again, he will be very good later on, I sold him for 9 million.

Also keep your eyes on the 3 bigger clubs, sometimes players like Trabelsi and Knopper get unhappy, keep track of them. Denneboom is sometimes up for loan. But he is pretty damn different every savegame you start.

Good buy is also Vrede but he is expensive, so only possible if you sell someone in time before another team gets him. Landzaat is also a good buy.

But definetly try and lure Broerse too your team. He is young and great, also good to replace Kreek when you sell him.

It's beginning of the 02/03 season. In the 01/02 season, I was out of the Spanish Cup in the first round (a bit of a habit for me in this game) and out of the CL in the second group phase (just barely). However, I won La Liga pretty easily. Real Madrid stumbled most of the way and got off to a slow start. Selling Figo to Bayern Munich and bringing little by way of reinforcements (Ilie of Valencia and Victor of Villareal) didn't help. Deportivo also challenged, but also got started too late and faltered towards the end. Anyway, I won it by 8 points and that was with using B squad players and non-starters for the last 4-5 matches. The board was rarely disappointed and I had a good relationship with the fans for the first time since i've played the game. My formation was a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-4-2 for most of the season. This time, I took a different approach to the squad and who I'd sell adn keep. I kept most of the squad and added only players I wanted (for the most part) and not just players I thought would help in the short term. Also, I've not sold players at too cutprice of deals. In fact, i've general made out pretty well with my selling. It seems to be working and I'm off to a great start with the 02/03 season. I'll give you lot the rundown of my squad, transfer history, contracts and B squad:

So, I love my Barcelona squad (you may need to be a Barca fan to understand) and only want some defensive reinforcements along with a right-sided midfielder. Claudio Lopez was a temporary buy since he did so well for me in a previous game. Same with Westerweld, but I wanted to keep him. I sold him though to raise cash for the Tristan transfer as I had just splashed out 25 mil on RVN. Christanval will go as soon as an exceptable offer that's not a 12 month deal comes in. Mexes could be sold soon too. I won't be bringing in new players til next summer, but I think I can take the league, Cup and perhaps CL with my current lineup. I'm looking at Rio Ferdinand, Christoph Metzelder (had him for 2.7 mil in Summer of 02, but was outta cash with Tristan deal) and D' Alessandro. I'm very pleased with my squad though. Rivaldo was the best player in the 01/02 season. He was runner-up for World Player of the Year. I was manager of the Year in La Liga. Luis Enrique was runner-up for mid of the year in Spain. Saviola had a good season as did Overmars and Gerard. Gerard really established himself, but Riquelme and him keep each other on their toes challenging for the same spot. Riquelme did well in the second half of the season (got him in the Winter window). Van Der Vaart did well with limited opportunities and Reina is going to be the keeper of the future as he did very well. Xavi did well with limited opportunities too. Fernando Torres did alright with a few appearances, but scored a few in the last 4-5 games as he got a run of play. He's also off to a great start with the Spanish U-21's and is scoring regularly there. Barca B rarely lost last season (if ever, we're talking 2 maybe 3 times).

Well, there you have it. It was a fun season and I still can't get over my squad. This is a dream for me as a Barca fan. Too bad it's just a game. Thanx for the tips guys. I'm sure you guys think I overspent on some of the players, but they're performing and I really wanted 'em. One thing I did differently this time was shortlist a boatload of players, which kept me up to date with a lot of em.

OK, so I just finished the 02/03 season with my new big name signings of Van Nistelrooy and Tristan. I won EVERYTHING. I started a bit shaky, but stayed in it. By November I was first in La Liga. I pretty much held that spot until the end holding off Real Madrid (who sold Figo and Zidane and brought in Viera, Davids and now Roy Keane ). I had a tough CL campaign as I had to face Bayern in the second group phase and in the final (they were the best team in the tournament). The Spanish Cup was pretty much a breeze as all the top clubs went out pretty early (with the exception of Deportive La Coruna). I had the league wrapped up pretty early, so I used the youngsters and fringe again at the end. In the Summer, I won the World Club Championships (held in Barcelona) as I defeated a tough Lazio in the final. That match got my highest ever attendance and gate reciepts. I then went on to win the European Super Cup against Roma (even tougher than Lazio). The Spanish Super Cup quickly followed, a derby affair against relegated Espanyol (whom I took care of handily). I am now half way through the 03/04 season and have just won the Toyota Intercontinental Cup against Sao Paulo. I'm first in La Liga and just started the second group phase of the CL. I don't expect a clean sweep again, but we'll see. Oh yeah, no players won any individual awards, but I was manager of the year.

As for stats from that season, they were spread fairly evenly as I employed a bit of a squad rotation policy (with my big squad). Here are the key offensive contributors.

A number of teams are interested (at 2.5 mil), but I'll try and get him to Ajax. Aberlardo will probably leave at the end of the season on a FREE as he won't reneg on a contract and I don't play him either (other than Spanish Cup games). I may sell Rivaldo after this season too before his value drops. We'll have to see. I'm set to get Hugo Leal on a FREE in the 04 summer, but may then sell him. I don't have much room in the squad at his positition.

well here are my first two ajax seasons:

I brought in some immediate reinforcements in Sorin and franco costanzo (3.7 mil pounds and 1.8 respectively) and taribo west on a free. got jason gavin from middlesbrough for 300k. predrag djordjevic in for 1.8, cisse 12 and lastly ze elias for 5.5.....

i sold machlas for 8, tobiasen for 2, bergdolmo for 2 and god knows how many more players..... point is i ended up in second that season (to psv), lost in the uefa cup semi's vs leeds after being dumped out of the CL by one bloody point, and it was, apart from my excellent wins over feyenoord both home and away (4 - 0 home, 1 - 4 away) and a few hammerings in the dutch cup, a fairly poor season only ending up in second by like 6 points......

season 02/03 was a huge improvement! after bringing in Hasselbaink from chelsea for 12 million as well as cristian zenoni early in the season and a roy makaay just recovering from a year long layoff due to a broken leg (which messed him up bad - he had arthritis and i didn't know; luckily i got him for 5 mil only!), ajax got off to an excellent start under 01/02 Dutch manager of the year Jose Lopez, going 7 - 0 - 0, until they played feyenoord at amsterdam arena... after leading most of the match, feyenoord scored two late goals to win 1 - 2! Lopez quickly gathered his forces, and his money and shelled out 17 million for..... CRISTIAN VIERI! he quickly proved his worth, being dutch topscorer with 21 goals despite only playing 19, as well as 10 assists! Mido felt alienated and wanted first team football, but ajax with vieri was unbeatable, they still haven't lost since vieri joined the ranks, in 30 league games, claiming a first Dutch championship for Lopez by matchday 29! In this same matchday, vieri suffered a torn groin muscle and was out for three months, as well as being ineligible for the CL, so mido got game time!

In Europe, Lopez's Ajax was strong all the way. In group stage one, they were pitted against roma, benfica and steaua. Concedeing only one goal (a 1 - 1 draw with roma at the olimpico), ajax won the group with 12 points (3 wins, 3 draws)

group stage 2 saw ajax in the "group of death", with parma, liverpool, and barcelona. again, ajax played excellent football and won their group to earn a spot in the quarter finals against man utd!
the first leg was at amsterdam, ajax won 3 -0... second leg at old trafford, ajax held on to win 0 - 1 thanks to a great goal by djibril cisse and some tight defense in the form of taribo west and chivu

the semifinal was against bayern, ajax losing leg one at olympiastadion 1 -0.... at amsterdam arena, van der vaart and van der meyde putting on a show, vdv scoring two with one assist, and vdm scoring one with two assists! On to the final vs a tough roma featuring ariel ortega and a totti and montella at their peak as well as a strong, young cassano!

in the final..... 0 - 0 regular time.... minute 111, djibril cisse picks up a loose ball, dribbles and lobs it over keeper ivan pelizzoli for a golden goal!!!! an incredible end to an amazing season!

I got mine from Kazaa. A mate of mine got rid of all of the pop-up ads that came with it. I also have Spybot which I think has helped things a bit.

So speaking of Champman bargains, I'd recommend shortlisting any players you're remotely interested in. My shortlist is a long one. :D If you're really interested and you have the dosh, you may have to just buy them. However, some deals always arise. As you can see by reading my post on the previous page about my career with Barca (not that any of you have read it), I am at the Winter break of the 03/04 season. Well, I spent my wad in the summer and was left with only the 1.1 mil for the rest of the season. So being the shopaholic I am, I was looking for prospects for the future at bargain prices. I made a bid or three for Helder Prostiga of Porto. He was valued at 1 mil, but I started bidding at 500k. I made two more bids, the final of which was 1 mil. All the bids were rejected of course. Well, a few weeks later, two clubs bid 450k each for him. That was the sign (and the sign you should be looking for) that he's going to be sold. So, I just bid 460k and got him. Simple as that. It's happened this way before. Also, I got Xabi Alonso of Real Sociedad too. He was valued at about 600k (which is far less than he is when you start the game), and I just bid 250k cause he was unhappy. Got him too. Only 250k.

I wonder if anyone has found the "perfect" Tactic, the one that makes you win 34 games out of 34.
I am in 2008 with Lecce. Until now I got a good team, I won UEFA cup and SuperCup.
But I always seem to end up in the 9th spot!
I can never win a scudetto! Man, I tried them all, but I keep getting the same results.

In case you haven't been told, the latest patch of CM4 is out and it fixes a lot of the bugs in the game. However it does screw your team upbig time if you've found yourself an unbeatable formation.

i've got the same problem. I can only fine them, but not praise. the update patches won't work with my non-official version neither, i should maybe try to crack them, but haven't suceeded in it yet.

i played with finnish club fc haka, won finnish premiership 6 yrs in a row and made it to the uefa cup semifinal once. Moke was my keyplayer, he scored every match, his best result was 9 goals in one game!! :p

when i installed the patch v3(enhancement pack 3), which upgrades my cm4 version to 4.0.3, my team(Inter)completely screwed up!! i tried all formation, but i always have problems winning matches. even against the likes of como, modena, empoli, i always end up drawing or losing.

i'm halfway through my second season with Ajax, i'm leading the Dutch league by 2 points, Zlatan has 17 goals in 20 games, Luca Toni has 17 goals in 18 games and it's all good! Zonneveld is playing good, so is ronaldinho who i bought for 18 m pounds, mido kicks ass and so does VDV..... i shipped van der meyde to madrid for a cool 15 m...

I am in my 4th season with arsenal. We are sitting comfortably a top the league. But for some reason i cant do well in the CL 3 times i have been knoecked out in the quarters by the same team, Juve. I am having the same trouble Wenger has. My additions include Gallas and melchiot whore pretty good, Rustu, Mendieta, But Owen is playing best with 38 goals in the last 20 games. I only just started playing it but heard a cheat if anybody wants to use it.
When you are trying to buy a player instead of bidding for them, bid aload of money in the add-ons sectopm (eg 40million over 24 months) and then do loads of goal bonus add ons ( 1million a goal bonus etc). The unclick the add-ons so they are still visible but unhighlighted. You can then bid for players for free. I know a guy who got raul for free!!! Its a spoiler though so i havent actually used it!!

If u want a star striker for cheap, go2 helsingborg in the swedish league, buy alvaro.....hes cheap, nationality is brazilian\swedish, u can get him from 250,000-500,000 pounds.... i was managing mallorca, had him for 2 and 1\2 seasons hes scored 80 goals, has now played 15 caps for brazil, scored 12 goals, and is now worth 13.5 million pounds and rising, not bad considering i signed him for 300,000 :)

i like 2 do that but any good player don't accept the contract off :( they say their not internsted in moving to your club it sux.

use the 442 diamond formation if you playing CM4 works great.

How could u guys leave out pazzini and lucio?!?! pazinis only 19 and his stats are godly(finishing 20 heading 20) plus he will develop. lucio is arguably the best defender in the game. i think cm overated him.

Anyway, buying those "well-known" players usually takes a hell lotta funds and they will age fast. Its much better to buy those young players that have potential (defoe, bridge, johnson, pazzini, kasper schmeichel etc)

I'm kinda getting bored of CM 03/04 and wanna get into the CM game that first got me addicted again just for fun :D Problem is, it runs extremely slow using DosBox on my P4 2.8 GHZ, 1 GB DDR ram PC :( Apparently the DosBox emu doesn't support the game too well. I used to play this game lots before on my old computers (one with win 95, one with win 98 se) but win xp doesnt support MS-DOS so im SOL thus far.

Any striker you sign from Brazil Under 21, their price at least triples in 2 seasons. Then you can have enough of a budget to go and sign superstars.
You're probably coaching Olimpiakos, and have budget problems. When I coach Galatasaray, I have to make money by signing cheap players first.
South America is the best place for that...

U21 squads are great to look at definately... just remember to have a good scout (with high judging player ability and judging player potential) to look at the players before you invest in them :) Sometimes their potential ability rating sucks (sort of random) so you have to watch out for that... Obagol in my recent game had only 157 potential rating :(

Maybe you are exagerating....Nesta isn't worth 25m.I bought him for 18m.I recommend Martin Cardetti of river plate.
I reccomend the polish guy kaluzny.He really is pretty good.Larsson starts off well but then stops scoring.Nihat is my number one reccomendation.Then Tuncay.Mexes is always solid if ya lookin for a defender.

Eidos have paid a third party developer to completely rewrite the game from scratch and this game will be called 'Championship Manager 5' so......

If you liked the old CM games (which was pretty much universally accepted as the best footy management game by a mile) the the game for you is Football Manager 2005. It will be available before christmas and there is a free demo available for download at www.sigames.com. I will probably get both!!!

Football Manager is from the makers of the Championship manager series .Eidos and Sports Interactive split up so Championship Manager 5 is a completely different game and is considered worse .I've played football Manager 5 (it's come out in England) and it is very similar to Championship manager 03/04 .

well, i can say that by now, in the 2008/2009 season, i have signed a pretty impressive striker, issah eliakwu, for Bolton. I had scouted him for many seasons while i managed roma and he played for inter, but never signed the nigerian/italian. Smart move getting him on a free, he's got 30 goals in 25 competitive matches for bolton, has catapulted me into 4th (along with strike partner palle thogersen who has 22 goals) and eliakwu, the oldest of the pair is only 23 at this point :shocked:

it's impressive though, that he scored at least one goal in 11 matches in a row... i recommend him if you're a mid table club with some decent passers in mid field, and thogersen is amazing as well, yet he's been injured for two months this season so far.... only in december and already 22 goals

You can get Crespo for £2.5 million if you have decent reputation team. in my case Liverpool. Tevez is superb but you will need about 8 million odd if I remember correctly.

Yeah,and personally I think signing someone like Luca Toni is better,he's 2.5 m,and he is very strong in the air,at finishing,and he has great determination and work rate,he's a brilliant link-up player,him and Henry together are brilliant.
Oh,and just a quick fact for me with Chelsea on my third season,I was given a transfer budget of 97 m.I don't know if it's the case with all the games ,but it's still handy to know.

well, with roma, in my first season i had -3m euro balance.... now i have +299m euro balance, with 200m to spend per annum :silly:.... not that i ever do... my most expensive purchase was cavenaghi for 26m from river, and i just bought diego from santos for 18... apart from those, everyone else has been pretty cheap, and i've sold lots of players for huge profits (bonera, came in for free, sold to milan for 45m; coloccini free, sold to chelsea for 14; basturk free, sold to arsenal for 15, emerson sold for 42 to inter, etc)

I have both CM4 and CM03/04. They are both so slow and way too complicated so I still play the great cm01/02. I have a superb Roma.

I found being a wolves fan the best players to get you out of the first div. are Huckerby and maybe McVeigh (get him on a free) plus when Wimbledon go into financial trouble scrounge Lional Morgan off them - cheapest i got him was 35,000, he turns out to be a star in the coming seasons and in just over a season of signing him his value went to 3.5m,

Plus another tactic for Wolves is to play Silas and Sturridge up front, guaranteed to score atleast 1 goal each, but sometimes 2 goals isnt always enough to win games!!!!!

singed Kompany mid-season transfer for 3m STG straight away and 2.5m over next 12months and his value went from 3.1m to 7m at the end of the season after winning premiership and FA cup with Liverpool he was worth 11m. But you have think Backs in the game dont get much value increase as say Strikers.

On CM 03/04 make sure you sign Sanli Tuncay. You can get him for about 7/8m but he goes up to 11m and scores loads.

the new game seems promising.... it's basically an upgrade of FM 2005, on some of the areas that were lacking a bit or got a bit tedious... it's being released on several consoles including PC, MAC and PSP

Well I got an Athlon 1.6Ghz with 512mb ram and I can play well just 2-3 leagues... and the best thing of this game is the possibility to change team from different countries :)
I would recommend even getting 1Gb of RAM unless you want to wait 2-3 minutes between matches (if you have 3+ leagues selected)!!

Dunno about the new ones but in 02/03 Mark Kerr of Falkirk is a genius and if you play with one behind the striker Scott McDonald of Southampton is unbelievable. Scores 30+ a season and gets an 8+ average rating. A major contributor to my successful Hearts team that got 11 in a row title wins and 6 European cups in 7 years!!

Sanli Tuncay is amazing on CM03/04. I signed him for 7m, his value went up to 13m, he scored 31 goals in the first season, then Real madrid offered 28m for him!

in 03-04 theres a young lad called supat rungratsamee....hes like marmite..u either love him or hate him...i signed him and he was class...scoring a goal a game almost...but in my m8s game he was as poor as oliver twist...

and in another season i was playing as chelsea...and theres a fella on the youth team called isaac promise...he was 16..and his stats wernt that good but him and crespo up front...and promise was the top goalscorer that season and the young player of the year....

also in thge eircom league...at the start of the season, theres a player called jason sherlock, who is now a professional gaelic footballer and plays for dublin...but he used to play for u.c.d i think....he is also a very good signin

Make sure you get Football Manager rather than Championship Manager SiN. When this thread was created There was only Champ Manager but the original CM team split from Eidos who kept the name but not the team who created the game. The original team then created Football Manager which is far superior to crappy Champ Manager.

Football Manager 2007 is pretty cheap now and you can get player made updates from places such as http://www.fmformation.net/fmf/ (there are various foreign (to me) sites as well dedicated to FM) so the game can be updated with the latest transfers and promotions/relegations. FMformation updates all the leagues around the world so it wouldn't just the be English league that's up-to-date. I just started a new game for the 07/08 season. You can also download the latest kits etc.

Of course you can also just wait a couple of months for Football Manager 2008 ;)
