Trapattoni is a problem when Italy wants to win a title. There's no place for old catenaccio in today's football. I believe Scolari would have been the best solution but too bad they didn't sign him.

I agree Trapattoni has to go, but Scolari can't be the coach of the Italian National Team. No way can a Brazilian be the head man of the Azzurri. That's just wrong! You see all the problems with Camoranesi and he actually has Italian origin!!! I hope I never see the day when a non-Italian coaches the beloved Azzurri.
Fabio Capello is the man who can bring the glory back to Italy!

Well, Scolari's ancestors were italians so it wouldn't be such a big deal. IMO italy needs a change of mentality in their game. The last coaches of the National team were/are too defensive minded. Someone like Roberto Mancini would be a great coach for the National team as well, i believe.

I disagree with mancini. I would like to see Italia adapt Milan's attacking philosophy. Capello, Lippi, Ancelotti, or Del Neri would be excellent choices to coach the Azzurri.

and what philosophy does mancini bring an ultra-defensive one ??
talk about me being bias

Mancini is no defensive fanatic unlike Trappatoni. He's a modern coach that prefers offensive football. Lazio is the best example, but i agree Lippi or Angelotti would also do well as national coaches.

Hizbollah, I agree with what you are saying abour mancini, but what has he done? I want a proven winner to coach the National Team. Ancelotti, Del Neri, and mancini are all good offensive minded coaches but they don't have credibility on their resume. I want to see a championship coach lead the Azzurri. Who better than Fabio Capello or Marcello Lippi?

...TRAP is the problem. Dino Zoff played Catenaccio with very good results! They literally squeezed the LIFE outta the Dutch in Euro 2000....and ALMOST the same with the French!!
GK's + Defense we're all cool with that
Forwards - Italy's got all types of forwards and strikers in all shapes and sizes, the problem lies though, in...
...MIDFIELD!!!
But I still do agree that Trap has to GO, and that a new offensive coach must take charge and start the new era with Italy.
Hopefully God will knock some sense into Trap's head.

haythamx...the problem with catenaccio is that you must play it FLAWLESSLY. If you make one mistake, you lose. That is not good calcio, in my opinion. I loved the EURO 200O Italian team, it is my fave team out of all the Azzurri squads I've seen (yes even better than the 1994 squad). But we must be honest here, Italia did not squeeze the life out of the Dutch. The Dutch missed on TWO penalties at HOME and had the Azzurri down to 10 men! Only the brilliance of Francesco Toldo in goal got Italia into the final against France.
About the EURO 2000 final, I have it on videotape and watched it again over the weekend.....I don't think I ever saw the Azzurri play better then they did against the defending world champions. Italia played beautiful calcio...they attacked, defended, and counter-attacked to perfection. Had they capitalized on 2 easy scoring chances...Italia would have beaten the "unbeatable" French 3-0. That was the most heartbreaking ending to game I ever saw.
Nevertheless....FORZA ITALIA!
I think Del Neri is the man.

I thought this was pretty interesting. Media day today for the Italian National Team and Trapattoni was, of course, praising Camoranesi and Miccoli on their first ever call-ups to the Azzurri. However, Trap did express his disappointment in the absences of Totti, Vieri, and del piero. He said the original plan was to have a (4-3-2-1) formation with Totti and del piero behind Vieri. Maybe Trap has finally realized that in order to win, he must attack!!! Well it could just be my wishful thinking.
Imagine the possibilites:
(4-3-2-1)
Buffon
Panucci - Cannavaro - Nesta - Zambrotta
Camoranesi - Pirlo - Fiore
Totti - del piero
Vieri
I like the sound of that!!!!! FORZA ITALIA!!

Good team, change your left back though.Zambrotta may have played the odd game there for Juve but he's not good enough to play there for the NT.

Whoa, looks like the old man pulled a fast one here! Trapattoni has made his line-up for Wednesday's friendly against Portugal:
(4-2-3-1)
Toldo
Panucci - Cannavaro - Nesta - Zambrotta
Zanetti - Perrotta
Camoranesi - Miccoli - Delvecchio
Corradi
I am very surprised to see Toldo, Zanetti, Perrotta, Corradi, and Delvecchio in the starting line-up. I have got to see this, hopefully RAI International will be carrying the game in U.S.A.
FORZA AZZURRI!!!!

actually, the WB position is better suited for his characteristics. you watch, he's gonna be a staple there simply because there's nobody better than him. not on juve nor in italy eligible to play for the NT.
