so what's up people, is the fact that italy adopted a "semi-oriundo" (born to italian parents) to the nazionale italiana troubling you tifosi ? or are you content with the way it all worked out.
i personally think argentina's loss is our gain. and am fully acceptive to a non-italian playing for the azzurri so long as he's of italian origin somehow.
this decision however is seen as scandalous back in the peninsula. needless to say however it's mainly the old-schoolers that think it.

F**k that....whatever helps the Azzurri get back on top is all I care about. He is of Italian origin and thats good enough for me. We need Camorenesi on the right wing. I think he will have an immediate impact for Italia.
The old schoolers? Forgeetttttta bout them, the old school way hasn't gotten us a damn thing since 1982, except for heartbreak in 1994 and 2000.
FORZA ITALIA!

right. and if you look back 20 years it wasn't the ol'school way that brought us 1982 either. you should've seen them crying on domenica sportiva. the only 2 rational ones was the host (i forgot his name) and stefano tacconi of course for obvious reasons ;)

They really made a big deal out of this? Wow, I didn't hear anything about it. Guess I better tell my USA born cousin to forget the Azzurri. He's got dual citizenship to USA and Italy and plays for the Under 14-U.S. Olympic Development team. He's already 6'0 and growing and runs like the wind. He wants to play in Italia.....MLS is a joke....lol.

well i don't think any kid should have aspirations to playing for another NT but your own growing up. but if you find yourself in camoranesi's shoes where your native land is basically saying, dude we don't want you, then going to play for the nation of your origin would be the best alternative i think.

A furious Paolo Di Canio has blasted the Italian FA for calling up Argentina-born Mauro German Camoranesi to the national squad.
Camoranesi, who joined Juventus from Verona last summer, was included by coach Giovanni Trapattoni in the Italian squad for the forthcoming friendly with Portugal.
In contrast, Trapattoni has consistently overlooked West Ham United's Italian striker Di Canio during his period as national coach.
Corriere dello Sport reported Di Canio as saying: "Camoranesi is Argentinian and not Italian. Full stop and enough. This episode looks like vulgar opportunism and is the umpteenth contradiction in Italian football."
He compared the case to that of former Chelsea player Roberto Di Matteo.
"Like Camoranesi, Roberto Di Matteo was born abroad (in Switzerland) but he is also one of those who always felt Italian. When he was little he refused call-ups for Switzerland."
Di Canio blamed Juventus director Luciano Moggi for the call-up, saying: "I don't like the way that Moggi revealed the news after Trapattoni told him not to talk.
"He thus put pressure on the coach to call him but furthermore it suits Juventus to have another Italian national on their books rather than a foreigner who has to travel overseas when he gets the call-up."

MILAN, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Former European Player of the Year Roberto Baggio has responded to appeals for him to be recalled to the Italy side with a jibe at coach Giovanni Trapattoni's interest in picking Argentine-born winger Mauro Camoranesi.
Fans are clamouring for a recall for the 35-year-old Brescia forward, who has eight goals for Brescia to his name this season.
But although Alessandro Del Piero is ruled out of next week's friendly against Portugal, Trapattoni is courting the Juventus forward's team-mate Camoranesi.
Asked about the popular support for his recall, Baggio told the daily Corriere della Sera: 'Leave me alone - I am going to play for Argentina.'
The comment comes after Trapattoni said on Sunday he was ready to pick Juve's Argentine-born Camoranesi, who holds an Italian passport but has only lived in Italy for two-and-a-half years.
Baggio's return to form and fitness prior to the World Cup finals last year prompted a vocal but ultimately unsuccessful campaign for him to be given a place in the Italy squad.
After Trapattoni's side were knocked out in the second round of the finals with a controversial defeat to co-hosts South Korea, some critics suggested Baggio might have made a difference.
Baggio, who hasn't worn Azzurri colours for four years, said he was pleased by the fresh backing he has received but that the decision lay in the hands of Trapattoni.
'What can I say? It pleases me, but the discussion remains the same - in the end it is one person who needs to decide,' said the former Juventus forward.
But Baggio, known as the 'Divine Ponytail' due to his Buddhist beliefs and his hairstyle, clearly believes he could be of use to Italy adding he is in better shape now than before the World Cup.
'I was fine then as well but let's say I am in great shape now, even if I can still develop further,' he said.
Baggio, who has played 55 times for Italy last appeared in a European championship qualifier against Belarus in March 1999.
So, the old geezers want in, huh? I would give Baggio a final shot though.

If Camoranese had given his loyalties to Italia first this would not have been a big deal but since he has made us his second choice people feel his first love is still Argentina. My feelings are that I don't think we need him, Zambrotta, Fiore is just as good . Don't get me wrong he's a great player but we have good players that Trap will not put on the pitch for his own stupid reasons.

we don't have any legitimate wide wingers though. zambrotta can play there but offensively he's not nearly as effective as camoranesi, plus i like zambrotta in his new role as LB.
the only other option is di natale but he's injured.
fiore however is much more suitable in the middle where he has the liberty to roam wherever he pleases.
and after the aforementioned players there is nobody else.
one thing i'd like to say though is that i wish people would quit bringing up baggio this and baggio that !! he's never gonna play for trapattoni so just get over it will ya. i finally have and it's done wonders for keeping my stress level to the minimum.

well if its ONe player and plus of ITA origins its ok, still, I woudl disagree if it was more. but its not the case thank god.
Theo nly think I dont get is why Trap is calling Camo, when there are TONS of players that are better and Italian! Miccoli!
Well look at France, they got a whole NT full of Non france players.
To me thats not good.

What does Miccoli's role have to do with Camo's ??
Severus
02-07-2003, 06:23 AM
right. miccoli's a forward and camo is a winger. somebody obviously needs to give the ITfool a lesson on positions and their functions

Huh?
Are you rebentus fans ok?
Miccoli is a forward and Camoranesi a winger?
Huh?
I guess we all know that?
What are you guys smoking?
Before today that trap gave out the players for the amichevole, I did not know that Miccoli was called up.
my point was that if I was trap I would have called Miccoli and Other Italian talents rather than an ARGIE that has done well, but not to be called up in the NT.
Easy for your little Rube minds?

I agree Italianboy we do have other players and I don't agree that he is the only true winger in italy. For crying out loud they make him out to be the next Conti or Donadoni... Please.... To me he's a f***ing Argie. Nuf said....

I'd rather see ' homegrown ' talent as well but...would you rather see the pylons Trap has played there recently??
Better Camo in our midfield at the expense of one the grinders, no?
Maybe DiNatale or someone else will eventually step up
Forza Azzurri !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about Brighi?
Before you say No, he was part of Juve youngsters.
The problem is that in Italy we prefer any foreign to our players, its so stupid.
Camoranesi played 15 games, 10 well, and now he gets called up?
Plus I dont get Trap, why the hell does he call up the players we all know will play in Important games liek Nesta.
We need to try out OTHER youngsters!

Fair enough...and you could add Maresca to that list not just because he's ours but he has been in great form recently

di natale just returned from injury on saturday.
he probably would've lacked form but that certainly wasn't the case against juve.
