Manchester United v Manchester City
Big game this one. I have to be honest and say that after the win at Maine Road and the way Utd are playing at the moment I am not confident of a result. I hope Schmiechaels back and can marshall the defence ordally. My prediction is a 2-1 defeat but if Schmiechael does play we could get a draw.

good luck City. I hope Fowler scores his debut goal at Old Trafford :D
It's a shame you missed out on Portuguese goal machine Pauleta, he could be awesome in the Premier league

Yes it was a shame. I would have preffered him over Fowler. I don`t think Bordeaux wanted to sell their prize asset. Maybe they wanted too much!

it was probably both reasons. Pauleta is the jewel of Brodeaux, and without him they'd be fighting relegation. He scores like 70% of their goals

Would have liked us to sign Pauletta as he's a quality player, but if Fowler can get and stay fit he'll be a superb signing for us.
As for the derby
Not too optimistic as Utd are on top form and we were crap our last game. A bit of a hope though in that Eyal Berkovic returned to training today and may be fit for the game :)
Will make my prediction for the game nearer Sunday when I know what team we're putting out for the game ;)

Yes City have denied it but it looks like he will be off soon. The Premiership has adopted the transfer window but the Football League have succesfully apealed to EUFA and have permission to make transfers. Small clubs rely on transfer fees to survive!

It is only a matter of time before Huckerby leaves City, but with us still being without Wanchope, Macken and Vuoso Kevin Keegan has indicated that he's not prepared to let Huckerby go just yet as we are short of cover at the moment. As soon as we have someone fit to take his place he will probably leave on loan with interest being shown by, Wolves, Forest, Ipswich and Celtic amongst others. Forest seem to be one of the favourites should he leave ;)

Striker Paulo Wanchope has been given the go ahead to return to full training next week, having been out injured since the World Cup last year. This is a major boost to City and if he can recapture his form of last season where he scored 14 goals in 18 games it will provide the club with a huge lift. Hopefully he will be fit in about 4 weeks and will offer an alternative up front with his different style of play to Anelka and Fowler
;)

City's lenghty injury list is at last showing signs of easing with Schmeicel, Berkovic and Tiatto all close to fitness and Macken and Wanchope back in training. With Weaver also just having returned it only leaves Haaland and Negouia still injured ;)

Touch harsh on Carlo there mate- it must be hard when your not playing to stay sharp. The last time he played a game of any description before his clanger at Newcastle was the middle of November!! Given a run he'd be ok but he's not even had reserve footy to keep his eye in

Yeah the injury front is definately looking up- just hope none of them have any set-backs. When everyone is available we have a very good squad-it's just a pity that KK has yet to have that luxury this season :(

True I did`nt mean it to sound harsh. I just like the way SDchmichael organizes the defence and imposes himself in the box. Carlo is`nt a bad keeper. I just think Schmichael has added incentive to play well against United.

Yeah, overall his track record is good, I mean look at Benarbia and Belmadi!! just a couple of dodgy signings but we'll forgive him for them. Also is KK's ability to get the best out of players, especially ones that have been labelled troublesome- look at Berkovic,Anelka, Tiatto, Dunne, etc- all had past problems but seem now focussed on the club and all playing excellently ;)

Vuoso!!!! where is he?? He was one of the best forwards in the Argentine league last season.
Bobby Growler
02-06-2003, 11:19 PM
He was last heard of going back to Argentina cos his Dad was ill, that was about a week ago. City signed him last summer for 3.5M but he has yet to play a single minute of 1st team football. Keegan bought him with a view as for one for the future, let him settle and ease him in slowly but recently there has been words of displeasure form both sides. The management feel he's not doing enough in training or off the pitch to put himself in the picture. The player says he's not been given a chance so at the moment there's a bit of a stand off between club and player. He's still only 20 so don't know what the future holds for him.
VAN BASTEN
02-06-2003, 11:29 PM
I don't think all that speculation of signing new strikers helped his confidence either. I don't think he'll get his chance considering you have Anelka, Huckerby, Wanchope, Macken and now Fowler in the ranks.
Eyal Berkovic
02-07-2003, 02:16 AM
He could get a chance next season. Huckerby and Goater, I suspect will both be off. Fowler and Anelka should be first choice, and Wanchope tends to play for Costa Rica alot. That only leaves Macken in reserve. Vuoso may get a chance then, if he stays.

I'm surprised no-one came in for Goat. He's a good marksman - and a team like spurs could use him (more than Boksic anyway!). Huckerby should also be sellable - he was looking good before getting injured again. I think getting Fowler at 6 mil (3 down) was shrewd business compared to what Leeds paid for him. It will take a few games for him to gel with Anelka though.
City are in good shape. I like the look of Balmeri and Jensen. KK has done a good job building the team - now all they need is to develop consistancy.

Not so. Man U dominated the game, especially the first 80 minutes of it. Even Beckham played well. RVN goal was an excellent effort, but he had other opportinuties and should have done better. Giggs ran all over and should have done better, as it was he had a good straikke with a decent stop by the City GK.

Not surprising, no, he handled the ball and after the hand ball he was able to control it.

Decent game to watch, the speed of of Man U is impressive. I don`t know which game you saw. It was City who dominated the second half. Point blank save from Carrol their keeper from Anelka, we hit the crossbar near the end when it was 1-1. As for the dissallowed goal, watch it again. Anelka kicked the ball up and as he turned it hit him. He did not control it. It was accidental. I agree United should have been more than one up at the end of the first half. But City had the upperhand second half.

Unless they've started making it 80 mins per half I tend to disagree :p
Utd were far the better team in the 1st half but City totally ran the 2nd. Berkovic was the best player on the pitch, way ahead of Giggly and in the end Utd were hanging on ;)

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that they will officially complete the loan signing of Manchester City striker Darren Huckerby on February 24.
Huckerby will be available to Forest boss Paul Hart for the remainder of the season - including the play-offs should Forest secure a top-six finish.
he 26-year-old is expected to start training with Forest on Monday and Hart told the club's official website, www.nottinghamforest.co.uk: 'We want to get promotion and having a player of Darren's quality on board will help us try and achieve that aim.
'He had the chance to join a couple of other clubs but he's a Nottingham lad and desperately wants to play for Forest.'

I rated him as a good player and will be sad to see him go. City have dropped legal action against Roy Keane and given up on him getting fit. Manchester City 1 Arsenal 5
What a crap result! Arsenal fully deserved their win and I wish them luck for the championship. Keegan should sack his defence now!
The game started brightly but Denis Bergkamp scored in just 4 minutes. Jihai Sun guilty of ball watching. Pires added a second just 8 minutes later. Thiery Henry added a third on 15 minutes and the game was effectively over. Sol Campbell broke City`s hearts on 19 minutes when he scored and made it 4-0. The crowd were rightly angered after an abysmal first half. Having said that the banter returned as the crowd accepted that a defeat was omynous. City started the second half more brightly and Anelka almost scored just after kick off. It was no surprise when Viera added to the scoreline on 53 minutes. After that Arsenal just played with us. Anelka grabbed a consolation on 87 minutes for City.

I think Souness did a great job with the Dunn situation. He ctiticized him publicly, but it was the only way to get David back in form. Dunn is still a bit mad at him, but I heard that today he gave Souness a "hello". So things are getting better between them. :D

City have released Jeff Whitley on a free transfer. He was an ever-present under Joe Royle and made 2 appearences under Kevin Keegan. He then broke his ankle and put the final nail in his coffin when he turned up for training stinking of booze. He never played for the club again.

City v Birmingham
This was not a classic encounter but City played really well in the first half and should have been at least 1 up at the brek. Second half the teams were more evenly matched and both sides did not create much. Fowler scored a cracker late on and Birmingham missed a sitter in the dieing seconds. Plus points for City from the game are that it was the first clean sheet for 2003 and Fowler scored his first goal for the club. I was particularly impressed with how Weikens played.

Manchester City were expected to buy Marc Vivian Foe at the end of this season. This is now in doubt as his club, Lyon are demanding £7,000,000 for his fee. City have baulked at this and rightly so. I would stretch to £5 mill but no way 7!

Ha I`m glad we are back on line. Since then, City have played Chelsea which ended in a 5-0 defeat! Our worst performance for 3 years. An absolute shambles. Kevin Keegan has told the players that they are playing for their futures now!

City have agreed a £5 million pound sponsorship deal with Reebok for next season. Their kit will revert back to sky blue. Their away kit will be red and black, similar to the one worn by Lee, Bell and Summerbee back in the glory days.

Man City have done a good job this season. I wish them more success in the future.
Steve Howie has left and apparently joined Leicester !

That's too bad. He's a good player although he didn't make a huge impact on the team's preformance.

Marc Vivien Foe has died in the Confederations Cup tie between Cameroon and Colombia. The 28 year old who played for Manchester City on loan last season collapsed near the end of the game and it appears he swallowed his tongue. This is a tragedy and may Marc rest in peace. My thoughts are with his family.

Manchester City have suffered a setback with the news that Egpyt forward Mido has opted to stay at Marseille.
City boss Kevin Keegan had hoped to sign the 21-year-old on a long-term loan to fill the void left by Paulo Wanchope's departure to Malaga.
"Mido will not be happening now," said Keegan. "We could have had him about a month ago but he has now patched up his differences with Marseille.
"I've still got some irons in the fire and I'm hoping something will hit us."
Keegan's side have picked up just one point from their opening three matches this season.
And there are signs that the club's fans are becoming disillusioned with the situation.
On Friday, there were still 6,000 tickets left unsold for Saturday's game against Charlton.
"It's unusual there are so many unsold tickets and that could well be because of our start to the season," Keegan added.
"Things can turn very quickly, but one point out of nine is not a great start."

Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan has parted company with the Premiership club, reports BBC Radio Five Live.
Stuart Pearce is expected to take temporary charge of first-team affairs and a full statement is expected from the club on Friday.
Keegan, 54, took over as City manager on 24 May 2001 and his contract was due to expire at the end of next season.
City lost their last game 1-0 at home to Bolton on Monday, a result that saw the team slip to 12th in the table.
The defeat was a blow to City's hopes of winning a place in Europe next season.
After the defeat against Bolton, Keegan said: "We've got a history of not building on good situations.
"We could have jumped into he European shake-up, again we couldn't make that leap.
"That's seven or eight times in a year we could have jumped into something good for this club and we've failed."
City lost to Oldham in this season's FA Cup and were knocked out of the Carling Cup by an under-strength Arsenal team.
Keegan, previously manager of Newcastle, Fulham and the England national team, had stated earlier in March his intention to leave when his current deal expired.
"I will not be staying beyond my contract," he said. "People who really know me know that is what I will do.
"Whatever we do next season will not make any difference."
After taking over at the club in 2001, Keegan guided the team to the old Division One title.
The club's return to the Premiership for the 2002-03 season saw Keegan sign some high-profile players, such as Nicolas Anelka and Robbie and Fowler.
City finished ninth in the Premiership and qualified for the Uefa Cup, thanks to their excellent disciplinary record.
But last season Keegan's City struggled - finishing fifth-bottom in the Premiership and losing to Polish minnows Groclin Dyskobolia in the Uefa Cup.
The magnificent FA Cup victory at Tottenham - winning 4-3 after trailing 3-0 - was the highlight of an otherwise unforgettable season.
Keegan's previously harmonious relationship with the club's supporters showed signs of deteriorating, while reports of financial problems at the club started to surface.
The club's star player Shaun Wright-Phillips recently signed a new deal but continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
