It's actually my second favourite sport to watch (after soccer obviously). I've been to some of the hills but i've never seen any tournaments yet. It's really exciting to watch.
I guess it's a pretty minority sport but do any of the Slovenians or Germans here have any interest in it?

Me.;)

It's my second fave too and I use to watch jumpings. What do you think about that amazing Hannawald?
Remember when he started, some 4,5 years ago in the WC. Our Peterka was champion in that time. Luckily he seems to come back.
I think it's exciting, too. Was once in Planica (WC final in skiflying), on the ski jump, in summer time. Doz, when I watched downwards, I got aware how dangerous it is in fact. Would never try it, although I've tried paraglyding.;)
I wasn't on a tournament, too. Guess, it's much better watching on TV. We have crowds there in Planica, mostly drunk people and it's not a thing I like. Well, also a little for cold feet. :D :D
I'm thinking a little to go anyways this year, it's in March.:)

Hannawald is DEFINITELY the best EVER, Ahonen sucks compared to Hanni. Sven will definitely win the World Cup.;)
About Peterka, i remember he used to be good but then he kind of disappeared, i heard he had lifestyle problems but now he seems to have overcome them and has returned to form with the win in the Four Hills(can't remember which hill). Although he did badly in the ski-flying at the weekend.:silly: Robert Kranjec did well at the weekend, he's from Slovenia too isn't he?
I find it really exciting to watch and one of my life ambitions is to jump on one of the hills, maybe a 90m one, anything bigger would be a bit scary i reckon.:dazed:

Doz, are you a German?:D :D :D
Think too, Hanni is amazing. He's form this season is on a level, he'll win the WC, no doubt.
Can't say, he's the best ever, cause it would be injusty to Malyzs,
Thoma, Weissflog, Peterka, Ahonen, not to mention Matti Nykaenen. IMO that guy was the best till now, but Hanni is the material to beat Nykaenen's achievements.

Peterka was too young, I guess for all that money and glory he earned in the 2 years he was world champion. He couldn't deal with it and sucked mentaly. Got in the papers here causing two or three car accidents and media destroyed him, although nothing dramatic happened, just ruined his own cars. Seems now, he found back to himself ( did his girlfriend help him or his little son;) ) and he gots his form back.:)
A comeback in this sport is tough, every year new guys come up and shows great performance, as the austrian team this season.
Peterka won Innsbruck this year, btw.
Kranjec is good, but not stabil. Still young, we expect a lot from him also.

Would never imagine a guy from Ireland wishes such a thing, but why not? Guess, you could try on a low ski jump, 90 m is far to high to try it. Can you ski? ;)

Thinks for the info on Peterka's "demise".
And no i've never even been skiing yet.:o But i'm hoping to go skiing in Austria within the next couple of years and then maybe i can see if i can go jumping on a hill.:D
We rarely get snow here in Ireland so everytime i'm away and i see snow it makes me want it more. I was in Germany in October and i passed through a ski resort and it was incredible.

Although being Slovenian, I think this sport is ultra boring to perform, let alone to watch. But I have to admit, that most of my compatriots would not agree with me.

Obviously, baby. We are definitively a ski nation, but we also do samba in hot summer nights.;)

Great sport there, fun to watch, especially if the conditions are favourable. What makes it even more interesting for us, the slovenians, is that we are actually good at it, unlike some other winter sports recently!
I couldn't agree with you on Hannawald, I mean he is very very good, but is he the best? I don't think so, right now I belive Malysz is, results speek for themselves. If we speek in general, I think noone is even close to Matti Nykaenen, he simply is best ever!
Hey lili, what is that about us beeing ski nation, I tought we were footballing nation!;)

Glad to see, we both have a common point, Valter. ;)

And as nation, guess we are the best footballplaying skijumpers worldwide.:) :) :)

It is, Doz. I'm going for a ski holiday on 15th february to the Dolomiti area in North Italy.
Like the view there, the mountain air and that magic white everywhere. Not to mention all the incredible drinks there.... :D
You should go to a curse and learn it, it's so much joy.
But be satisfied there in your beautiful Ireland. You won't believe it, I want to make holiday there since a long time. Hope, I will some day. Got a crush on Eire watching some very good documentaries on TV .
Coming back to the jumpings.......be very carefully if you decide to try. And don't forget to send me an invitation for your premiere jump!:) ;)

Maybe i overexaggerated a bit when i said that Hannawald was better than Nykaenen but there's no doubt in my mind that he's the best right now. Malysz is doing OK but he's won no tournament this season and recently he's been lagging way behind Hanni. When Hanni is on top form i don't think any of the current jumpers can stop him. Liegl could be a major threat once he gets a few more wins under his belt though.

I`m glad to see, that germany has many good sky-jumpers.. but i would never watch it on tv ;)

Everyone wants to go to Ireland on holiday i can't understand it. Obviously it has it's good points but if i had a choice i'd rather live in Germany, Austria or Italy to be perfectly honest. There are many things about Irish society that i don't like, particularly the high prices.
As for the jumping, we'll see. I don't see it happening for a another couple of years but i hope it will happen someday. If i'm still at WSB i'll give you an invite.:D

was in Germany, France and England last year, Sebi.
Germany is the cheapiest I think, also compared to austria and switzerland. Somehow same level as Italy- I go for shopping there a lot. Some food is in Germany even cheaper than in slovenia, so we all have problems.

Eating out was one thing i noticed was much cheaper. I was in a place near the Old Town Hall and i remember getting a lovely dinner for less than 10 Euro.
Drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) is far cheaper in Germany also. I remember buying 10 500ml bottles of coke for 24 Euro.
I also found clothes and CD's to be cheaper in Munich.

Is this supposed to be cheap?? Here in Slovenija (but also in Italy) you get 1 500ml bottle of coke for less than 1 Euro.

Back to Ski Jumping, the amazing Hannawald does it again to win in Germany. He managed a first jump of 142m with 5 style marks of 20 on the 120m hill. Incredible. He then jumped 147m with 3 20's in the second jump for good measure for a large margin of victory.
Second place went to Andy Widhoelzl and third to Florian Liegl. Robert Kranjec of Slovenia was fourth with Finn Matti Hautemaeki in fifth. Janne Ahonen was 9th and as a result Hannawald has moved to the top of the World Cup rankings. Adam Malysz didn't compete and has fallen to fourth in the rankings behind Widhoelzl.

Disaster for Hannawald at Willingen as he only manages 36th place in the second event. However others such as Liegl and Ahonen also struggled meaning that Hannawald still leads the overall World Cup rankings.

Adam Malysz won the world championship individual last night holding off Matti Hauetmaeki in an exciting competition in Italy. It was his first individual win of the WC season. Sven Hannawald could only manage 7th and Janne Ahonen failed to qualify after taking a tumble one the first jump.
The team even is in today with Finland, Germany and Austria the favourites.

Finland are world champions! Lead by Matti Hautemaeki, the Finns beat off Japan (2nd) and Norway (3rd). Germany came in 4th.

Indeed, I'm so happy that we beat Norway coz they stole our trainer!
I've noticed you mentioned Matti Nykänen a few times and he really was a great ski jumper. You can just be glad if you haven't heard what he's been up to since he quit. That man is a total wacko...he really is!

Hell, Doz. Our guys sucked totally. :(
I think it has something to do with menthally strenght, they were blocked somehow. Same as Hanni imo.
But i think it's great, Adam won it and congratulations to him and to the finland team. :)

I told you, Malysz is the best. And now that he is on the roll, he'll win the world cup also, for the third consecutive year. Nobody has ever done that! He really is an eagle!:smoking:
