after 10years of Prem football they are picking British and overerseas 'teams of the decade' (among other things) vote at www.premierleague.com
mine are
British-------Overseas

Seaman-------Schmeicel

G.Neville-------R.Nilsson
Adams-------Desailly
Pallister-------Stam
Le Saux-------Irwin

Le Tissier-------Kanchelskis
Scholes-------Keane
McAllister-------Viera
Giggs-------Pires

Shearer-------Bergkamp
Wright-------Henry

some controversial ommisions- Cantona and Zola ousted by Arsenal bias but I always appreciate players who have impressed me live. Flirted with Dixon and Winterburn but began to look like an Arsenal XI! Le Tiss just edged Becks on the right and Ince, Barnes and Beardsley where close. can't believe i picked Irwin lb - Ziege's a better player but he disappointed at 'Boro AND Liverpool, couldn't think of another lb (staunton and byornebye were listed). Maybe Stam doesn't deserve it for 1season (but what a season!) a lot of McGraths best days where prePrem. Berg and Hyppia are both quality...no I'm not changing it now.
The foriegners would win that particular match up IMO but what a game!

G. Neville - i will say the same as i always say - WHY??? ;)

did u c him against Blackburn?
(thats obv not y he's in my team of the decade!) but he was brilliant.
He does all the simple, ugly things brilliantly. he's consistent solid and fit and 2b fair its all about the medals - Dixon's qualities are similar but a lot of his successes are pre prem ('89+'91 championships)

There's no way he's consistant. Dixon was a far better RB.

exactly - as u said DB and Zola prob2 similar but both merit a vote.
I went with Henry instead on shear goal power.
I could have easily gone with Hyppia instead of Stam but he was such a rock in '99!
to me the only totally undroppable players are
Brit team - Seaman, Adams, Shearer
and overseas
Schmeicel, Keane and Viera (did you know last year Paddy was in the PFA team for the 4th year in a row - 1st time anone has ever done that!!)

Take Vieira, put in Cantona, and we´re set.

JD

in midfield? cantona's a forward (was a forward whatever)
Viera simply demands to be picked

So do many people.

JD

wot I was trying 2say was IMO
seaman adams +shearer
and
schmeicel keane viera
are the only ones - I think arguments can be made for other players in other positions but every1 will select those 4 in their XIs
would u not?

anyone who doesn't name Denis Irwin at left-back is an imbecile. He was the most consistant player in the league year after year and there's not a player(english or foreign)who can touch him at left-back

Not true mate. Stuart Pearce.

Pearce's best days came pre-premiership,he was good up until 96 and after he declined.you're a biased forest fan anyway ;)

i was actually meaning to ask you something,do you remember about five years ago forest had a young striker called paul mcgregor or something,he looked like a rock start,i think he was in a band called Merc or something like that.you don't know what ever happened to him do you?

Irwin was easily better, and wasn't Macgregor the one with shaggy hair who scored a last minute goal at the City Ground in a UEFA cup 5th round tie?

I'm sorry but Pearce was far better than Irwin :)

Yep Paul Macgregor, he went to Plymouth where hescored a few goals, he might still be there. He wasnt anything amazingly special to be honest. Those were the days though :) :D

they showed that goal on some programme on sky a few weeks ago and i don't know many forest fans, thought i'd ask you what happened.

Imo Irwin was better, you say Pearce, doesn't matter, they qualify for different teams.

any word on Brian Clough??

This is the latest that i've heard about God:

Legend on the mend

Legendary football manager Brian Clough is "progressing very well" after undergoing a successful liver transplant, a hospital spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The former Nottingham Forest boss had been given just two months to live until he had the operation at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.

The spokeswoman said: "He is progressing very well but there is no date set for him to leave yet."

The team who operated on him also removed a cancerous growth they found in Mr Clough's diseased liver during the procedure earlier this month.

Consultant Derek Manas, who performed the operation, said last week Mr Clough was in good spirits, adding: "He is being his old self, teaching us all how to play golf and telling us what, and what not, to do."

Clough led Nottingham Forest to two European Cup triumphs during his career as a manager which also saw him win the Division One title with ***** County.

He also had less successful and indeed controversial spells in charge at Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion.

As a player, he won two England caps and scored 251 goals in 274 games as a striker for Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

His son Nigel, 32, was also capped by England and has followed his father into football management at non-league Burton Albion.

In the book Walking On Water, written last year with Sun columnist John Sadler, Clough, a father of three, revealed the damage heavy drinking had done to his health.

He told how he had sought help after his grandson Stephen pleaded with him: "You're not having a drink, Grandad, are you?"

He added: "I was spending time drinking when I should have been doing other things. It was bound to take over. If you do something to excess, something has to suffer somewhere.

"Drink became more important to me than the anguish I was creating for those I loved most."

also a bit of nice news for the great man :)

Brian Clough has another reason to get well soon - a baby granddaughter he has never held.

Family members say the former Forest boss can't wait to meet Hannah Elizabeth, who was born while the 67-year-old was in intensive care.

Simon Clough says his father is looking forward to meeting the newest member of the family - and reading hundreds of "get well soon" messages published in the Evening Post.

West Bridgford businessman Simon broke the family's silence on Mr Clough's liver transplant to announce the birth of his daughter and thank the Post for publishing messages of support.

He said: "Obviously Dad can't wait to meet her. She is my fourth child and all my kids are looking forward to seeing their grandfather up and well."

He says the moving tributes will help his father recover from his ten-hour emergency liver transplant .

Simon said: "I'm going to visit Dad on Wednesday and will deliver copies of the Post when I go up to Freeman Hospital.

"It's so flattering that people still think of Dad and remember him.

"I'd like to thank the Post and everyone who wrote in for their kind messages and support at this time.

"The sheer volume of messages has been overwhelming."

He says the last two weeks have been rough.

He said: "It's been a real rollercoaster ride because my wife gave birth while all this was going on as well.

"We have a beautiful little girl called Hannah Elizabeth but there have been times when we haven't known whether to laugh or cry."

But Simon says things are looking up.

His father was recently moved from intensive care to the high dependency unit.

Simon said: "My eldest son Stephen and I went to visit and spent six hours with Dad on Sunday. He was in good spirits. But the doctors are warning us to take it one day at a time."

He says his father has always given 100%.

"Dad will be touched by the tributes but to be honest I'm not surprised.

"It goes both ways because this is very much how Dad feels about Nottingham.

"If you look at what he has put in and done in the last 20 years, and how well things went for him, you can understand why he has the support of the people."

Simon says his father is a fighter.

He said: "When we saw Dad he was talking and sitting up in bed. There was a time there when we weren't sure what was going to happen."

Hospital officials say Mr Clough could be home within a week.

The 67-year-old former football heavyweight had an emergency ten-hour liver transplant and chemotherapy on January 13.

Consultant Derek Manas said Mr Clough had just weeks or months to live before the surgery.

Mr Manas said cancer was discovered and treated during the operation.

Mr Manas said: "It was straightforward, the only complication was that he had liver cancer and we had to give him some chemotherapy.

"This is normal protocol."

The one-time team boss has been repeatedly criticised for excessive drinking but tests revealed the former professional football player had not drunk alcohol in at least six months. He was also having treatment on his damaged liver.

In his autobiography Cloughie: Walking On Water, Mr Clough admitted drinking to excess.

He wrote: "My drinking has impaired my judgment, worried my family. I must never touch alcohol again. It is no longer a matter of choice for me."

He retired from football after a 41-year career which included two European Cup victories with Forest.
