k, i dont pretend to know too much about the scudetto as i'm passionate about the Premiership. For this reason some stats may not be exact, but will be correct in principle.
Could someone please explain the logic to me of certain Italian teams with regards to the transfer market. I just dont get it
Clubs such as Lazio, Roma, and Inter have really been pissing me off over the last few years.
Lazio spent close to 70 million pounds in one close season. They signed a handful of top players including vieri for a top fee. Then the next season they sell their prized asset. Why.
Inter who signed Vieri from lazio paid i think 28 million plus their CLUB CAPTAIN! What is that about.
Then, i think it was Lazio wanted Rivaldo from Barcelona. They offered loadsa cash plus Five of their starting 11 including Salas (who they'd also recently signed), and their midfield battler Almeyda. What is the bloody point, of signing top players and building a good team if u r prepared to squander it all the next season.
AS Roma. they sign Bati Goal (probably the most prolific striker in the world at that point). However they also around the same time spend a fortune on Montella, whilst also having Totti and Delvecchio at the club. In addition they signed Nakata, a great prospect but a player who plays the same role as Totti. As u can c it ddn't work out. Bati Goal now hardly gets a game and the strikers have always been inconsistent and rotated.
AC Milan. Good on them. They've signed intelligently recently after getting it wrong a few years ago. Tommasson, not world class, but a good solid player, Redondo (nuf said), Inzaghi, Rui Cost and Rivaldo on a free.
What a shock is it that all these clubs cant afford any more players. They've practically bankrupted themselves in the transfer market in the last four years.
Just look at Lazio and their financial mess.
The only team in England that even resembles this problem is Leeds, and they're now selling, and lie in the bottom half of the table.
I know not everything in this is correct but its close, as i haven't been able to keep up to date in Serie A since i moved country.
Any thoughts?
