It would certainly make the title race a little more interesting each year.
Do you think Belgiums top teams (Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Std Liege) are on par/better or worse than the top Dutch teams ?(Feyenoord,Ajax,PSV)
Apparently it would be called the "Be-Ne-Liga"

I think the Dutch clubs are just ahead of the Belgium topteams, league level in general is different, but surely higher in Holland. In the CL Anderlacht proved to be a worthy opponent of PSV. It is close, but I rate the top 3 of Belgium, in my eyes currently those are Brugge, Anderlecht and although they have a bad period right now, RC Genk, a little under Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord.
Belgian League appears to be more physical and based on hard work.
I think ages ago I opened a simliar thread about the transatlantic league possibilty, now it seems (for now) that only Belgian and Dutch teams will form the new league.
Think it is a good idea and perhaps even a must. We are losing grip too the bigger leagues even more and players are going earlier abroad or refuse too come at all too Holland or Belgium.
I think the likes of Genk Brugge and Anderlecht could improve the league but still am afraid that it won`t make too much of a difference. But every motion forward is positive so I think we are not having much choice. Travel distances won`t be big since that is not possible, so I think it could work good.
If this is agreed together with a working promotion/degradation rulebook, it would work and I would definetly support it. :)
it would make a significant difference if we could get Celtic and Rangers too join. :) They seem more keen on England though. Anybody heard news on that?

I wonder what happened to that proposal? Completely dead? I've not heard anything about that in a long time

Since then the Scottish teams have started pushing harder too join the EPL I think.
I still think it would be the best solution. I don`t want Ajax too eventually enter the bundesliga. Not that it isn`t a great league, but it is not the place to be for Ajax if you ask me.
Especially PSV is still really interested in that idea though. (transatlantic league)

I don't like the idea of either league. The level of competition would be raised, but I think you're messing too much with tradition.
Combining the SPL and EPL is different though. A British league is more "allowable" IMO.

Well, I think Belgium and Holland also always have had close contact together so those two shouldn`t be a problem.
Traditions are nice, but being competitive is more important too the clubs and there fans.

I wouldn't mind seeing these league join together. I think the Dutch teams would dominate the league and it would make it more competive to combine creative Dutch offensive flair with brick defence from the Belgiums.
I don't think this will make the league as "big" as Liga or EPL but it would be a very interesting league (I mean that in a good way) plus there's nothing to lose here for both countries.
I just wondering if this league does come together and stays for a long time then the Dutch style of play would blend in with the Belgian style and two teams (NT & Clubs) would play similar. :D

I think they will have no objection too his possible idea. Doesn`t even fell very mixed too me, since we, Dutch and the Belgians are pretty close. we border too eachother, so the greographical argument can`t be given here, which was an argument with the transatlantic league.

Geographically, it's fine. However, in terms of being the same country you're not. I'd barely condone combining the EPL and SPL, much less this. IMO it takes away from European club competitions a bit, but more importantly hurts football development in your respective countries.

It hurts football development in Holland and Belgium?
In what way?
We are not the same but I think it wouldn`t hurt European club competitions. I think UEFA should approve these plans if asked. Belgium and Holland can make one big league with lower divisions. I think it would be great. UEFA will just have too get over it and think more about the future of football, before Spain, England and Italy are even further out of reach then they are now.
I heard Van Basten is invited too talk too UEFA about his plans, so maybe we can ask him too ask them gently about the Be-Ne league.

I think the number of clubs would diminish as a result of such a merger and that with less clubs you'd have less development. The level of competition would be raised though. Your respective clubs would probably be more competitive in the long run. It would mean less European competition for your clubs though, unless UEFA granted more spots for them. That'd be pretty doubtful where the CL is concerned.

Less chance of getting into Europe is, weirdly enough, actually a good thing. it would mean that there is more competition for all of the teams.
since there will be a promotion degradation rule I don`t think clubs will diminish, only the teams who aren`t healthy right now or have no point in staying competitive anyway. I don`t think that will happen, for the bigger teams and teams who are pushing the biggest teams the Be-Ne league will be good, more competition and higher receivings of TV money and sponsor money, since sponsors will reach more people in Holland, Belgium and because of the better league, also more elsewhere in Europe.
For the smaller teams it probably won`t make any difference, they will loose some money because they can`t play the topteams anymore, but they could get a bit extra due too better ticket sales messured in a whole season, because of the better possibilities without the topteams too perform well.

Im quite sure, that UEFA wont let the mix league, they were also against Celtic & Rangers - they wonted 2 join in the premeier league, as i remember.

This is more a totally new concept, don`t see it as two mixed leagues but more as one new league. If Celtic and Rangers would have joined the EPL it wouldn`t have been the English Premier League anymore, but if the DUtch and Belgians decide too share a league, it is simply a whole new league.

Well, i dont know, but u will see what UEFA will say......Im very doubtfull about the start of the new mix league.

You are probably right, I hope they will allow it, but fear they won`t, why do they have a right too decide anyway, what harm could it do too UEFA?

U see what might happen, they have the right 2 decision, cause the re UEFA :silly: , but u can start with your new lague, even UEFA say no.
The only problem is, cause then they will say, that ure out of the euro cups & this mean: no champions league & uefa cup.....

I don`t think UEFA will be happy with that either, no Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord in European competition.
