Officially. The hunt is on for a replacement. Possible names being touted are O'Leary, Kinnear, Toshack, and Martin O'Neill. Although i never agreed with Mick's team selections or tactics he did a great job and i feel sorry for him. Good luck to him in his next job which i'm sure won't be long in coming. I'm hoping O'Leary will get the job and bring back Keano....

I will miss him. He was a bit strange from time to time, but a good national coach. He made Ireland play above their usual level, even without Keane. Good for the Irish that Keane can come back, but I would have been happier without Keane and with Mick.

Anybody knows what Mick plans are? Does he want to coach a club or does he wants to quit? I think Martin O`Neill is the best succeeder, O`Leary is good to. O`Neill is my first choice.

O'Neill wouldn't take the job at this stage in time anyway, I would like to see John Aldridge get it.

Please God, not Bryan Robson!

I hate Aldridge but i'd prefer him over Robson. I want Toshack or Big Joe in!

Toshack has taken a job with Italian Serie B strugglers Catania so that rules him out. Bryan Robson is the favourite now. PLEASE GOD NO! Bring in Big Joe!

Even worse, Peter Reid and Frank Stapleton have now expressed an interest in the job.

Good Riddance! :fed-up:

DOL is the best man for the job at the moment all things considered. I think he could do better though.

Well the first game after Mick's departure ends in a 0-0 draw with Greece. I'm not going to bother commenting on the game as 70% of the squad were out "injured".

Today Philippe Troussier is being linked as Mick's successor. He will make his decision in January. He's a great mangaer and i'd like to see him being given a chance.

This sounds like crap to me,but i was talking to a dutch journalist the other day and he says Rijkaard wants the job and he wants to have Gullit as his assistant.I can't see the FAI being able to afford their wages even if it is true.

Well the six candidates to replace Mc Carthy have been "announced". Here's my view on each of them.

Bryan Robson
I don't know why he's on the list. He's unproven and even Stoke rejected him. No

Peter Reid
A decent manager but not good enough for this job in my opinion.

Kenny Dalglish
A proven manager after success at Blackburn. However i don't think he knows the demands of this job and i don't think it would suit him. I wouldn't choose him but if he's chosen we could do worse.

Kevin Moran
Great knowledge of Irish soccer and a great servant to Irish football but no previous managerial experience anywhere. Add that to the fact that he's as dour as they come and you've guessed my answer. No

Phillipe Troussier
Proven international manager with experience at World Cups. He may not have the knowledge of Irish soccer that some of the other candidates do but with a suitable assistant manager he could be the man for the job.

Brian Kerr
The peoples choice. Has enjoyed unprecedented success with the Irish underage players and gets on extremely well with the media. However he's had no experience of management at club or international level.

Verdict- Kerr. I think he'd certainly be capable of doing the business and i hope he gets it. If not him Troussier.

it's an absolute shambles, the whole interview idea is a load of crap, what does it matter if a guy gives a good interview??they should give it to the man with the best record and that is Kenny Dalglish, the fact that Kerr is favourite is a joke,he's done nothing at senior level anywhere and winning a few mickey mouse tournaments is hardly comparable to four championships,2 F.A cups and a truck-load more as a player.

And another thing, what the hell is that northy ***ker doing deciding who our manager is going to be??what would Hamilton know about management??yeah he was great with the northy boys wasn't he??and now what's he doing??assistant coach with some mickey mouse club in America?please, the F.A are making a laughing stock out of irish soccer and they don't care.all they care about is how well their new cars look parked outside the office in Merrion square.

Hamilton will appoint a clown like Peter Reid or Bryan Robson and we'll spend the next five years wishing we had McCarthy back.

Troussier and Dalglish are the only applicants worth considering, even though Troussier is more used to coaching the Ivory Coast and obscure teams like that.

Couldn't agree more with your views on the FAI, i've been one of their biggest critics for many years myself. I think you were a bit harsh on Brian Kerr though, without his expertise at underage level the likes of Duff, Keane and Healy might never have broken through the ranks.
And i also agree with your views on Bryan Hamilton. It's a disgrace that he of all people is conducting interviews that are in fact needless and humiliating for a manager. Can you imagine Kenny Dalglish having to try and impress Bryan hamilton at an interview?
I only hope that the FAI can make a good choice and bring this whole embarassing shambles to a close.

Kenny Dalglish has in fact not been interviewed for the job at all. Unfortunately Frank Stapleton has. Just what we need, another no-hoper.

Well Brian Kerr got the job and has brought Roy Keane(National Hero) back into the squad.

Thank God the McCarthy nightmare is finally over.... :)
