4 Sven Goran Eriksson.
5 Thierry Henry I think, I`m not sure.
6 France
7 Irwin? Damn I should know this but I don`t. Irish?

I`m sure it is not Ruud van Nistelrooij and Haisselbank. it is either Henry or Shearer. Shearer scored a lot on the end of last season.
I still think its Henry.

Well if you go to www.google.com for example and type in: World Cup 1988. You will see that there was no world cup etc. Plus some of this Q are really simple are you sure you dont know them?
You can go to www.soccerage.com for Irwin maybe you can fine stuff there.
But in the end, you just type in, EPL top scorer season 2001/2002 and you will get loads of data.
Hope this helps. Its faster for you, thats why I say this you know.

thanks for the web sites....i think i have been on everyone out there in cyber land.....The problem is we are new to this soccer thing....all of these names and things are all foreign to us in the U.S. we have never really followed soccer before. it is not as big of a sport here in america but it IS growing....and my sons coach is from england so i guess he expects us to know about the 'toffees' , highbury, and the MLS fire (just a few of the other questions asked on this quiz) which i did get info on after many hours on the web. Some of these ???s are just really hard to figure out....so we do appoligize if these questions offend anyone out there and for the people who have answered questions we appreciate you taking the time to answer them. The unfortunate thing is, i guess he is going to do this monthly so you will probably be hearing from us again, I'll just appoligize now for next months quiz.....
by the way, i did go on to those 3 web sites and from what i could figure out thierry, sola and wiltord are the top goal scorers in the epl in 2002....

I think you looked at the current topscorers of the EPL. There is no way in the world Wiltord and Zola (?) were topscorers in 2001/2002
Looney
10-20-2002, 04:25 PM
EPL topscorer for the 2001/2002 season was Thierry Henry, even though he probably doesn't deserve it since he always goes to sleep during the final run-in. Shearer, Van Nistelrooy and Hasselbaink were two goals behind him.
Wiltord and Zola have never been the topscorers in the EPL. Wiltord lead the scorers list early in the 2002/2003 (current) season but has never finished a season as topscorer in the English league. Neither has Zola.
And in case you need to know, Manchester United are variously called the Red Devils, the Mancs, Man United, Manure, Manwhore, Mantheysuck, FC David Beckham's Mohawk etc. ;)

I am now looking up club histories, my son has to write a report on any soccer club and find out about its history, players, stadium, coaches and interesting points...yuck! so i'm on the man united web page (why did i pick them you ask? i have no idea....it's just a name of a club that i have, that has pictures and stuff on their web site) he also CAN write another report on a player past or present to cover acheivments, stats and other interesting points...double yuck!!
The good thing is, if he wins, he gets cool soccer stuff from england which is important to a 10 year old.....(not to his mom though)

GRRRRRR :D Ajax is a football team in Holland who havo won a lot of huge trophies. This hurts. Ajax is the team whit a youth academy which is famous all over the world, except where you live. :)
Johan Cruiff, Marco van Basten, Dennis Bergkamp and Rafael van der Vaart (the current sensation) all are products of the Ajax youth academy. This list could go for a long time.
Ajax belongs to the most succesfull clubs of Europe and are by far the most succesfull team in Holland.
Link: http://www.ajax.nl is the official Ajax site only in Dutch.
For pictures just ask me, I can post them here or email them to you. That comment of you really hurts.

The first you have to know about Ajax of Amsterdam is it's stars. Dutch legends such as Johan Cruyff, Marco Van Vasten and Dennis Bergkamp all played for Ajax.
Next thing you have to know is that Ajax has 4 European Cup wins, 3 in 71, 72 and 73 and 1 in 95. The three in the 70's were inspired by Johan Cruyff and made Ajax eligible for the exclusive UEFA Badge of Honor (only 4 clubs have it). Also, it is the most successful club in Holland, with many dutch championships (how many? 27 now?) and are one of the world's most famous clubs. It's youth academy is also world famous, producing the likes of Edgar Davids and Bergkamp.

also, my son wants to know if you play soccer and if so what position? (he's really getting into this) He wants you to know he is our teams goalie (and did an awsome job this week-end) he also plays forward.
one last thing,(that is probably a lie), i got pictures of the team logo, the stadium, and another picture off the www.ajax.web site, of 2 men (i don't know who they are), can you e-mail me any pictures that you think would fit into this report? or tell me another web site that you might know of that would have some cool pictures?

I`m glad you liked it. It is not only helpfull for you but hopefully also a nice addition to the Ajax forum. I`ll post pics of the most important players and the stadium(s) in the Ajax thread.
I used to play football but I had to quit due to a knee injury. I might pick it up nowadays. I played on almost every position. I played as a reserve goalkeeper to, I played several matches.
I played most matches as a midfielder and winger.
Good luck to you and your son. Hope he will keep enjoying playing football. For cool pictures you should use google and search for Ajax pictures, but like I said, I will post a few too. If you want too I could also give you the explanation of why Ajax is called Ajax. I hope you never forget Ajax. We are in the top ten of most loved clubteams. But still, Ajax is a great club, and they'll be greater if they can beat Inter in round 6!

Lets face it man, the players you name are all great, absolutely, but they needed to be under supervision of those three Dutch players. Not all of the players you name were educated by Milan, Ajax had a lot of home grown talent in their team.
youre team know is for a big part players who were bought when they already were great players, what did Milan do except spending money?
ajax style is totally different, we buy young players and learn them how to play good.
Examples nowadays are Zlatan, Chivu, John O`Brien, Hatem Trabelsi, Mido, Maxwell etc. They all improved a lot, theyactually learn stuff here in Amsterdam. Players learn in Milan to, but not because of the trainers, just because they play with better players in a more advanced league. Trainers in Holland are still trainers, trainers in Italy, England and Spain are just managers. They only have to keep players happy and pay them when they have to get paid, some teams doesn`t even manage to do that in Italy. Kluivert isa one of the best strikers in the world, Italy probably was just to boring for him. Seedorf made up for him. Where is he from again? I do think Milan are one of the best teams of the world, but should not be compared to a team like Ajax, I think that is an insult for the unique way Ajax works.

Those players are allright, I don`t know much about Kaladze and Pirlo though. Still not comparible with the great Ajax back in the nineties or now. You can`t compare those players to the likes of Van Basten, Rijkaard, Cruijff, Van der Vaart, Seedorf :D etc etc.

But like I said, I do think highly of Milan, but they are not like Ajax. I could be influenced by my fanship(:D) for Ajax.
Milan belong to my faves from the Italian Serie A, absolutely.
But be honest, the Dutch influence was enormous in the best Milan side ever.

Comment wasn`t about Kaladze and Pirlo, I don`t really know them, the Italian league isn`t much on tv anymore in Holland, it is all about England, Germany and Spain.
The rest is subjective. I like the Ajax players more because they play like Ajax players. With a lot, and sometimes to much, flair, always technically very advanced I love that, I grew up with it.

Are you saying Baresi and Maldini can't compare to Marco, Rijkaard and Gullit!?! Dude you so have to watch more Grande Milan era matches! Baresi as regarded as arguably the greatest defender of all time, as is Maldini! Albertini in his prime was one of the premier playmakers in the world!
The dutch influence was great Grande Milan, but while the 3 dutchmen were famous, the (all italian) defense and its exploits were equally famous.
Milan and Ajax are similar, they are european giants with rich histories and great emphasis on attractive football. Both have produced some of the greatest players of all time, you know Gianni Rivera in the 60's and 70's was considered equal maybe better than Cruyff....
As for the Milan Academy, lately it's been pretty quiet, the days of producing the legends seems to be over as Milan are more interested in buying talented young players instead of developing their own from grassroots. Marco Donadel is justabout the only player of note now.
Italianboy, Pirlo was great at Brescia, but he hasn't been recognised as a top class player until this year when he's played for Milan. Before that he was promising young captain of the Azzurrini.

I think Gullit is a great and misunderstood manager, who could have become great if would have gotten the chance at for example Newcastle or Chelsea to gain experience. He is now analyst for Dutch TV. :)

If not, soccer fanatic, ok, I'll throw in the last card. You can have one of the best defenders in the past decade, a Milan legend and all round good guy, Costacurta! Plus you get to play at the San Siro once..... and we may loan you Seedorf should you feel the need to use him against Inter in the Champion's League..... hey we'll even take Ibrahimovic off you if you want!
Of the past decade is key, isn`t it? :D
Perhaps we can make a deal concerning Zlatan, 20 million and he is yours. And please do loan us Seedorf against Inter, A midfield containing Van der Vaart, Litmanen and Seedorf is a dream.
We will make your day, and ours ofcourse.

We'll put in a good word for Zlatan amongst the Romanisti, so hopefully they'll get him for you. Does he count as the worse Ajax signing of all time?

who won the 1988 world cup?
There was no word cup in 1988. There was a European Cup and Holland won. With players like Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard en Ruud Gullit Holland was far out the best and showed some beautiful soccer-play.
