Romania isn't the super team it once was. But still they're a very strong side and it'd be good to play teams like them. And I agree Okon shouldn't start. It's been too long since he's had a decent run of playing time and it's time for Bresciano to step up. I mean, if Okon continues to play, what does that make Bosnich?

It is fantastic news that the Socceroos will be getting together. Romania should be a good test to see where this team is at. You have to wonder though why this match is going ahead wheras a match vs Italy - which was on offer, was knocked back? The Bresciano-Skoko midfield should be the one chosen. I'd like to see Grella play too as he has been impressing at Empoli. Hopefully Kewell will play as left wing rather than behind Viduka.

THIS IS GREAT STEP FORWARD FOR AUSTRALIAN SOCCER AND THE NEED TO HAVE REGULAR CAMPS AND MATCHES IN EUROPE, IT IS CRITICAL TO START PREPARING NOW! FOR THE NEXT WORLD CUP. WE MUST GET RESPECT FOR THE GREEN AND GOLD GERNSEY AND MAKE IT HARD TO PLAY FOR AUSTRALIA, THE DEBARCAL AGAINST NEW ZEALAND WHERE WE HAD A 4TH STRENGTH SIDE SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN! PAUL FOSTERS REMARKS ON THE SBS WORLD GAME IN ESTABLISHING A CODE FOR FIRST TEAM AND AN AUSTRALIAN A SIDE IS SPOT ON, AT THE END OF THE DAY THERE MUST BE MORE QUALITY GAMES IN EUROPE, THE BETTER, MORE PROFILE THE SOCCEROOS GET THE MORE THE GAME WILL GROW IN AUSTRALIA. THERE MUST BE A SERIES ESTABLISHED AGAINST THE OLD ENEMY, ENGLAND. WHY CAN'T WE PLAY THEM, AND WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE TRY AND GET THIS SERIES UP. I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE HUGE SUCCESS ON EVERY LEVEL. WE NOW HAVE A TEAM TO MATCH THE POMS, ARE THEY SCARED THAT WE WILL BEAT THEM IN YET ANOTHER SPORT? I BELIEVE FRANK FARINA SHOULD LOOK TO THE FUTURE WITH THE GREAT POTENTIAL OF PLAYERS LIKE; MARCO BRESCIANO, VINNYGRELLA, LUCAS NEIL, LUKE WILTSHIRE ETC THE LIST GOES ON! I THINK WE NEED TO NAME A SKIPPER NOW FOR THE NEXT WORLD CUP. PAUL OKAN APPEARS FINISHED AND WE MUST GET SOMEONE STARTED NOW. I THINK HARRY KEWEL IS THE MAN. HE IS OUR BEST PLAYER AND DESPITE HIS PERCEIVED SURLINESS, POMMY ACCENT AND LACK OF DESIRE IN THE PAST HAS A REAL LEADER QUALITY ABOUT HIM, JUST LOOK HOW HE STARTED TO CONTROL THE GAME AGAINST FRANCE AND HIS PERFORMANCES AGAINST URAGUAY. I KNOW HE IS NOT THAT POPULAR BUT HE IS DEFINATELY WORTH A SHOT. HE ALSO WILL BE IN HIS PRIME BY THE NEXT WORLD CUP!

firstly dude turn caps lock off:P how can you say harry kewell isn't that popular? with viduka they are some of the most popular sports people in AUstralia! on captaining i think either skoko or emrton should be the captain. skoko because he leads by example never goes over the top and stays calm. emrton because he has shown great loyalty to the socceroos by coming over for the "less important games" when asked and is young and a future will be among the names of viduka in the near future. i would like wilkshire to get a bench and even maybe garcia from west ham. bresciano needs to play i think but farina said grella might replace okon instead.

I am not sure what the feeling is within the team regarding Kewell and his questionable absences from the Socceroos. I don't think the best player should necessarilly be the captain. Australia really need a Matt Horsley type of player to lead the team whose comitment and effort is unquestionable. I am not sure if there is a player capable of taking this role on in the australian team but both Emerton and Skoko could fit the bill.

thats why i said emerton. i dunno how old skoko is but emrton is one of the young stars of australian soccer and has showed on many occasions his loyalty to australia. for one not running away from our league as earlly as most. he came for our QF"S vs NZ and if you asked him he prob would of played in the ONC this year.

Skoko is about 27 so he would be available. He also captains Genk so he is an experienced leader. He would take over Okon's role of guiding the team around the park. Though if both Grella and Bresciano or someone else starts to deliver he may not make the starting side.

with bresciano is he a striker or a midfielder? i always thought he was a midfielder but it says on the parma sight that he is a midfielder.

I think he is an attacking midfielder. They have played him out wide a bit for Parma but I think he is better through the middle.

sorry on parma sight it said he was a striker and thats why i was confused in the 1st place!

Skoko already starts for the Socceroos doesn't he? He should be captain in the abscence of Okon (and Bosnich and Zelic).

Yeah it's true. Is soccer Australia run by New Zealanders or something trying to ruin are world cup hopes from the inside?

Adding to the list of promising Australian central midfielders is Ivan Ergic who starred wor Basle in their tie with Valencia overnight. Two excellent goals. I was wondering why he never played in their earlier CL matches. His performance has helped take some of the sting out of not seeing Chipperfield play as well due to injury. He could have really started to make a name for himself had he been fit.

never heard of grigic but their better be some meida abouyt him 4 scoring two goal! if harry kewell or mark viduka score a easy goal or hit the crossbar they will make aus news but if some other unknown aussie scores a screamer theres nothing on it! chipperfield has made a name for him and was being chased by newcastle before getting injured! vince grella saposebly played another good game for empoli.

Ergic played for Perth Glory before being signed by Juventus (shows how promising he is) and is in second season on loan to Basle. It is the sort of performance which if repeated will surely see him return to Italy. They will no doubt show it on the World Game but your right that it won't make the commercial networks which is disappointing. Chipper has established himself to some extent in Europe and is assured of being signed by Charlton once he recovers from injury. Chipperfield I believe though has the capability to be playing well above mid table EPL teams such as Charlton. Strong performances in the CL would have aroused interest from big clubs. There is certainly not a lack of quality midfielders in Australia at the moment.
