I must admit I didn`t have high expectations for the start of this match. I knew Lyon was a high quality squad. I`m proud of Ajax, every player played with a lot of effort. Trabelsi, Chivu, Zlatan, Litmanen and Sikora were my favourites in the match, but thats just a personal opnion. Van der Meyde (again) disappointed me a bit, even considering he was playing at the wrong side of the field. He worked hard and tried everything, so I`m proud of him.
The first half was pretty good of Ajax. Lyon created chances too, but Ajax seemed better. They created more chances, thanks to room behind Lyon`s shaky defence. Thats something Lyon and Ajax have in common. Although in Ajax` case it could have something to do with the attacking playing style. Zlatan played a great match, not only because he scored twice. He looked very confident and played very well. His first goal was amazing, especcialy the way he passed two defenders in a fluent move. He curved the ball in great, although I have to question the way Lyon`s goalkeeper reacted. Could be a mistake.
But credit to Zlatan, absolutely great move of him.
The second goal was maybe easier for Zlatan, but the attack which leaded to the goal was stunning. This is how we want Ajax to play. Just imagine this side with a fit Van der Vaart. Althought I doubt if we can miss Galasek`s workrate and accuracy in passing and tackling. Galasek played great. He might not have the technical abilties Litmanen and Van der Vaart posses, we still need him bad. There were more chances for both Ajax and Lyon, but Stekelenburg proved to be already on the age of (I believe) 19 to be a reliable goalkeeper.
In the second half Ajax were under big pressure gor the first fifteen minutes. O`Brien saved Ajax by heading the ball of the line, a while later again the ball was cleared of the line, I can`t remember who did it. The next fifteen minutes both teams seemed to be preparing for the last storm. In this period both teams were equal and Ajax seemed to prepare for the final offensive of Lyon and Lyon to try to push hard. Anderson scored an amazing goal, and the last minutes were hard for Ajax. The pressure was very big, although Lyon didn`t really create much chances. Yakubu got sent off for his second booking. (First yellow card was a mistake second wasn`t. Ref wasn`t very good anyway.) Lyon did try but never really threatened Ajax in those last minutes. Lyon made more mistakes, a lot of bad passes and Ajax played out the time.
Differences were small, but it is not undeserved for Ajax, in the second half they should have played more when they got the ball, but they couldn`t keep hold of the ball. Lyon was in my humble opnion very impressive, although they could have gotten more if they would have played more secure in those last minutes.
Personally I`m happy they didn`t.
Both Lyon and Ajaxc prooved they can be dif***ult opposition to every team.

Just saw the highlights. Zlatan scored two beauties! Sikora looks as dangerous as I've heard he is. A good result considering there was no Mido and no van der Vaart.
BTW guys, there are thread for each CL group in the European Club Competitions forums where we interact (IE gloat) with other fans.
